The problem is Garth have we shown that grit and promise against the opposition that wasn't tough? Or any evidence of experience? We certainly didn't against Stevenage. It was half-arsed, disorganised shite.

Exactly. What's this grit and promise? And ONE win, against the bottom side. And a lop-sided setup to surpass anything Bignot put out.
And a red card in each game. Asylum football indeed.

People can say what they want about Bignot's unorthodox management style, but I was much happier with the type of signings he made: Osborne, Clements, Asanate and Jones. Young, hungry players with ability and their future ahead of them. Apart from Dembele, that can't really be said for Slade's recent recruits!

Clements is 27? Osborne and Jones are both 25. Even Asante is 24. Slade has signed Killip, Dembele, Cardwell and Dj who are all 20 or younger. Kelly, Hooper and Mitch Rose are all 23 so more than half of this summer's signings are in fact younger than all of those players you mentioned. Whether or not they've got ability and their futures ahead of them (in an upwards trajectory) remains to be seen.

For what it's worth I think Bignot was right in that approach and the best transfer policy is to look for the players in non-league who are performing really well and give them the opportunity to further their career. It's worked really well for Peterborough and Scunny over the last decade and I wouldn't say either club is bigger than ours but they've certainly performed much better. Then add a few experienced players in key positions (by experienced I don't mean have a centre back pairing with a combined age of 70) and you'll probably have a fairly decent side with the added bonus that you might make some money from developing the younger ones.

Jones, Asante and Osborne all signed to us after impressing in non league. League 2 was the next step in the careers and Bignot was the reason they chose Town.

I'd prefer for us to be signing players doing the business in non league rather than journeymen from League 1 looking for their next 12 month deal.

We've tried that strategy before, haven't we?

I think he was piloting us towards a disaster. Good decision to get rid.

I think he was an interesting guy and I would, personally, have liked him to remain manager for a while longer.
