I see Lincoln fans didn't get or were unable to read the memo about the checkatrade boycott and still took 800 away to Mansfield.

A few calling Mansfields ground a excrement hole on social media. Clearly didn't travel away in the conference....

I don't see how Lincoln or Scunthorpe or any club for that matter are let downs, I am fully against this competition without doubt but we must remember it is a huge ask to expect people to boycott their club and I fully respect the wishes of those who go or don't go, just for the record I will not go to any game in this competition but just because people do, that doesn't mean they are letting everybody down, we all have opinions.

No doubt their 6000 bandwagon jumpers will enjoy seeing them play Chelsea or Man Utd's academy side in the league in a couple of seasons. After all, that's who they probably used to support a season ago.

How is it a huge ask? It's actually simpler and cheaper not to go! Especially if that means travelling to another town.

And that's without the brownie points to be gained from friends and family by 'making a sacrifice in not going to the football to spend time with them'

Nope, I don't agree with the comp, it's up to individuals if they want to bother. Prize money helps but other than that, best off concentrating on the league.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions and we live in a free country, so if someone wants to pay to watch their local football club then they don't need permission from anyone else.

However.

To me - and to most football fans, it seems - the reasons why we're boycotting this competition are clear. While I can't tell someone else what to do, I'm sure as hell free to feel let down by their actions.

And I'm free to express that opinion too.

Anyone who pays to watch a football match in this competition is supporting the long-term goal of the EFL, which is to include B teams in our football league structure.

It's another initiative that only benefits the Premier League teams, and it's another example of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

As soon as Shaun Harvey and the EFL realise that the fans will reject this competition while it continues to include under-23 teams, they'll realise it won't be so easy to push through future initiatives like, say, Chelsea B, Liverpool B and Man City B in Leagues 1 & 2.

Yeah but come on Gary. If it wasn't for us gimps on here providing you with bit of entertainment half of you lot would of been off the end of the pier already......😃
And for what its worth i didn't go last night and don't believe in the competition. None of the 617 lads attended either and are totally boycotting all games in this competition. 898 is an incredible turnout though and it's every fans own choice  but that is the momentum we have at the minute.

Can't you put the actual quotes up please on who was calling Mansfields ground a sh!t hole. Been there many times and think it is a decent set up.  I think if anything they were saying about that old stand down one side which is now totally boarded up . That's been like that for years and I can't understand why they have never sorted it out. Even if they put a small terrace down that side it would make the ground look much better.

We are a bitter and twisted lot this season snapping at each others throats as well as other teams supporters

For Christ sake Russ give us a win, I never went last night for reasons mentioned. but one hundred percent agree with the view that its everyone`s right to do as they please.

I am liking the look of the new signing which could be a turning point for us and a fresh start to the season

Lincoln and Scunny know that most teams are acting to save football but they see it as a chance to either get to the final or play one of the Premier B teams, so they can cash in again when they bring out special mugs about how they played them.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

Most fans of most clubs are boycotting this competition (hence our extremely low gate on Tues).  It's to safeguard the future of the lower leagues.
I guess the problem with your new found glory hunting fan base,  is that because they haven't followed football for so long they are totally out of touch.
If we took that many to a checkatwat game I would be dissapointed, because it would mean that (IMO) they weren't too concerned about the future of our club and clubs like ours and yours.
We have had several threads on this. !!!!!!!!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Totally agree with your stance on this competition  and I didn'the attend the game and niether did our 617 group who have also decided to boycott the completion but the facts are we live in a free country and 898 of our fans decided to attend and that's their choice.

Supposedly was going to be announced last night/early this morning but still no official word. Not got a great goal scoring record but DC does know him well from their Braintree days.

Don't think we would have broken our small transfer fee record either (75k) or at least I would hope not.

I think all the hatred of Lincoln coming through shows our jealousy at the moment, because they are a club on the up, and we are sliding down again.  We will always be the best club in Lincolnshire in my opinion, we just need to work hard and get back to the top of the tree once again.  That said, Lincoln fans have had to endure some very lean times over the years, so I certainly don't begrudge them some exciting seasons.  Just wish to hell we could have an exciting season once in a blue moon.  Looking at our team and Lincoln's at the moment, I honestly believe we will do well to take a point off them this season..............

I don't think there is a hatred of Lincoln? It's a bit of a ballache when they come on here suddenly when we didn't hear a peep out of them whilst they were terrible. And it's also amusing that they're all of a sudden harping on about attendances when they were getting less than 2000 home fans at one point. And no doubt all of the ones who have jumped on the bandwagon will swear blind they were one of the 400 who came here.

But the ones who stuck by them through the bad times deserve the enjoyment they're getting now and I don't begrudge them it at all. It's not very often a club gets a manager(s) in who uplifts the club and the community around it so I hope they make the most of it because as we all know the good times are few and far between when you loyally follow a lower league side.

Looking forward to a brighter future now Fenty has gone.

It's not a free country. Look at the restrictions you face as a football fan.

And as Rich Mariner said on another thread, yes they're free to attend Checkatwat games and I'm free to slag them off for it.

Hehe......deal off....

The transfer of Simeon Akinola to Lincoln City has been reviewed in full by the EFL but unfortunately it has been judged that “’in the circumstances The EFL cannot approve the application (of transfer)."

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Isn't it a bit early to be branding them a team on the up, and us on the down? They had a good season in the conference, sure. But Jesus, we're 5 games in and we have exactly the same amount of points as them!

Why all the negativity? Are Lincoln fans now saying they're a team on the down because they only have 6 points? I wouldn't have thought so!

I think your problem was the way you were playing and the fact you were getting someone sent off every week!
Yeah it's still very early in the season and some teams have had tougher opening fixtures than others . We have had no criticism of our performances,  yeah we would like more points but as of the Luton game last Saturday if you or anybody finishes above them you will get automatic promotion.

To be fair to Codfather he said club not team, and in that respect he is totally right.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is either being fiercely loyal or just turning a blind eye to the truth.

6000+ season tickets v 3000 season tickets
9000 home fans first home game v 5000 home fans first home game
Home gates rising v Home gates falling
Fresh investment and new ideas v No investment and no new ideas
Manager on the way up v Manager on the way down
Away support increasing v Away support decreasing
Confidence v Self doubt
Hope v Apathy

We are sleepwalking as a club now we've got our league status back. We've had no new significant investment for well over a decade, that cheque book is now empty, and have lost our way. We can all hope for three points from Saturday to Saturday, but there's a bigger longer term picture out there, and it ain't that pretty for us. Wish it was, but it plainly just isn't..

I find the continual acceptance by some fans of the dross served up by this club, on and off the pitch, for the past twenty years far more depressing than trying to speak out about it and wanting change for a brighter, more hopeful and inspiring future..

I've supported the club for nearly fifty years and have now found myself at an unexpected crossroads. Do I continue to care about GTFC or do I let it go, get rid of the stress and turn my attentions to something new that I can actually enjoy? I'm reluctantly coming down on the side of pastures anew and there's one burning issue that's finally tipping the scales.

Has the club actually got a philosophy and a way forward that I can buy into for the remaining years I've got left on the planet? The answer sadly is no, not a glimmer. I can't put up with the club being run the Fenty way any more. The club deserves to be more that one man's twenty year long wet dream and I can't see it ending any time soon and certainly can't put up with it for the rest of my days. It's becoming so boring now.

The way the club is being run is that the primary objective is for JF to remain in charge, doing things the JF way and now there's no extra cash available it's JF's new investment budget of zero. Everything else is secondary as is the way with long term incumbents of far off republics. Wouldn't even cross his mind that there could be better times ahead with someone new at the helm. There's been a whole raft of clubs that have taken massive strides forward, look down the road at Scunny and Donny, you don't even have to look far at all.

Tell me I'm not a true fan, I don't care. Make noose jokes, I don't care. I've cared enough about the club for far too long to deserve being given so little back for such a long time now. Something's got to change and I just can't ever see it being GTFC, so it will have to be me..

I get what you are saying Bigdog but give it another 3 years and if the new stadium hasn't happened by then I think a few more will agree with you.

Inward thinking
Backs to the wall stuff
Has there ever been a serious attempt to bring in a long term investment plan for the club
A, let's do a Bournemouth or a Burnley within 10 years type of thing
Lincoln will if we don't which is a double kick
Love This club, have done for countless decades
Would like to know where we are going long term
Come On Town beat fat Scottish cheating w@nk@r sat

What would guarantee that sort of season ticket sales would be what Lincoln experienced last season and now reap the rewards for it.

Exactly the stage I am at Bigdog been supporting Town since 1963 and only missed a handful of home matches despite 100 mile round trip. However it has increasingly become a chore to get myself motivated for home matches. What is quite clear is that this club has an entrophic management organization and things will never change under the present regime.

Over the last 50 years big dog friskney etc has it always been success unlimited? No there's been sh.it times under the different regimes, it's just football is changing so much there's no long line of people who want to take over gtfc as it's basically a money pit . You've either got to be stupidly rich like matey at Bournemouth to use your example or be happy to blow your not so massive fortune. Gtfc has to be run like a business or it'll go bust . Forgot stupid dreams of getting to the prem cos it's not going to happen . If someone comes along with enough ££ to buy out Fenty then ok , it's probably time for a change but I'm not holding my breath they appear any time soon

I understand with how you feel Bigdog.   It is hard not to care though after 50 years. (I have been going for more than 50 years and have always lived away).

The Club is part of you and your life.  Think of how much, time, energy and money that you have invested.  Knowing that there is no guarantee of any return on your investment.

You are pessimistic at the moment.  It could be worse, it is the hope and expectation that really gets to you. Well, when they are often dashed and come to nothing.

All the bad times make the few good times so much better.  Think golden goal at the first Wembley visit or beating FGR at Wembley to get back in the League.  Exeter promotion win at home or beating Sheffield United 4-0 to win the old Div 3 championship etc.

You never know what is around the corner in football.  You may well miss the involvement of being emotionally involved with something you do care about.  You may get divorced but nobody supports another team after beieng hooked.

Give it another 3 seasons and then review. If you did not want fellow fans to echo these sentiments then you could have simply stopped going.  I think that you just need a reason or reasons to keep supporting.

Here here unfortunately this new stadium issue is the most important thing in the Club`s recent history this needs to be got right.Once that has been delivered we will be a Club on the up but until then we are treading water with an outside chance of League 1 football but more likely a mid table league 2 Club.

Investment? Flipping heck, I didn't realise I was buying my season ticket with the expectation of some sort of a return. Just hope (not even anticipation) that I'll see some entertaining and exciting games from time to time and, truth be told, that's the best the fan of any lower-division club can expect these days.

It's pretty straightforward, really. Support the club if you want to but if you've really lost interest then do something else which will hopefully bring you some enjoyment.

Complaining about the way the club is being run is fair enough but, as has generally been the case, the average fan can't do anything about those in charge. Good work though the trust may do, we're not a wealthy area and the chances of us ever become a club run by the fans is slim so we're stuck with Fenty until he gets sick of it all himself or some other new sugar daddy appears over the horizon with cash to lose. Don't hold your breath on this one.

Just hope that we get a bit of luck one way or the other and that one of the managerial appointments and signings can win us a promotion as, judging by the way the game has gone these days and given the size of the club, the third tier ought to be our level. If we managed this and things went particularly well, we might manage the odd season in the Championship, but any hope of becoming a fixture there as in the past seems very unlikely, as money is king these days.

Yes there have been periods in the 50 years I have followed Town when we have had our downs, but this decline appears to be institutional and would not appear to be resolvable anytime soon under the present regime.
Look at Sat attendance take away Crewe fans it was about 3,800  take away season ticket holders of say 3000,that means only approx 800 casual supporters attended, this club is backed by a loyal core of 3,300 and is failing to draw in the uncommitted supporters on a massive scale.

If you buy a season ticket you reasonably expect to see at least some decent attractive football and home wins.  I was not talking about any possible financial return. Football is a drain for your money.

I wasn't intending to open have a go at you, SNAFU. Just making my points in my first comment in the thread and I've got a bee in my bonnet about the word 'investment' when it comes to football clubs.

The Glazers and numerous dodgy businessmen at smaller clubs (who are generally after the valuable land in on which the ground is situated - not a problem with GTFC!) get involved with the expectation of a return on their spending. Nobody else should.

I stick to my point that good football and results are more of a hope than an expectation - evidence shows that it should be the case as fans of pretty much every club have had to endure some real dross over the years! Nobody deliberately fails, but plenty of people in football manage it all the same!

I do not know how anybody can turn their back on supporting the mariners ,

I have been supporting them nearly 63 years and could never stop,

I can not get to many games recently due to family matters and my health,

So maybe that's the trick,

Don't go to so many games but keep the love,

You never know things might pick up after so many years going the other way,

Well done to the Lincoln fan that was interviewed about wearing a bra at Stevenage, I'm regards to our club I think Fenty is at a point where he's putting bits and bobs towards our wage bill for the year, just enough to get half decent players to keep us afloat hoping once we get the stadium we will then kick on from there... Risky? Yes.
