Looks like it'll be 4-2-3-1 with Jones in the middle but i'd expect him to interchange with Dembele to counter Stevenage midfield/defence being able to pick them up.

We don't have the right players for the very direct game Slade is making us play. Every time we get possession in our own half it's hoofed up towards Hooper or Dembele and just comes straight back. We're more dangerous if we get the ball on the deck for Dembele to run on to.

Well, I suppose it serves me right but after paying £110 to watch every game live I'm left wondering why I bothered.
Just big hoofs up the pitch with no direction or any idea.
Reminds me of Slade's first season in charge at town.

1 year into our football league return... and were talking about sacking our third manager and signed a team of ageing journeymen or inexperienced players from a relegated side, and none of our strikers look like scoring more than 6 goals a year
Is grimsby town back in the football league or is the football league back in grimsby
This is all just brown tinted glasses talk coz were losing I accept that

Well, I suppose it serves me right but after paying £110 to watch every game live I'm left wondering why I bothered.
Just big hoofs up the pitch with no direction or any idea.
Reminds me of Slade's first season in charge at town.
Well you sign Slade, you get Slade ball what did you expect.

You must be very rich paying £110 for every game that's over £47,000 for the season .

Apart from a couple of potential diamonds if you have a look at it we have a squad of geriatrics and mid fits available at the moment

Its worse as i have paid. told me to log out and in again and clear cookies, which i had already done knowing full well i would lose live chat with them only now to wait for another customer advisor. shite
Yes that's not on mate, something is not right, I was chatting to Brian on the online chat and he said it would work if I removed my Ad blocker and allowed cookies from sites I visit, the thing is I'd already done this before I attempted to subscribe, I reset everything and still the same issue, the problem is their end, I won't be joining ifollow now I don't trust it, I've heard people who have subscribed can not view the match or listen to the commentary when they've paid already.

Terrible to watch. I don't expect to see free flowing football from a Slade side but what I can't stand is players aimlessly hoofing balls forward when we are incapable of getting hold of anything up front. Players should be able to see if something isn't working and adapt accordingly - we had 40% possession in that half FFS. Summerfield has his critics but at least he tries to get hold of the ball and do the simple things right. That's the only way we are going to get back into this match. Vernon is also looking a big miss based on the first half.

We don't have the right players for the very direct game Slade is making us play. Every time we get possession in our own half it's hoofed up towards Hooper or Dembele and just comes straight back. We're more dangerous if we get the ball on the deck for Dembele to run on to.
This is what is happening. Not sure why we have players who can run with the ball like Dembele when we are just hoofing the ball ober his head

They 3-1 up against Newport and only drew 3-3....at least Slade has made some changes at half time

Absolutely pathetic from Sam Jones. He's moped around the pitch like a sulky teenager barely trying for the last two matches and now goes and gets himself sent off for an elbow off the ball. Should have his wages docked for that shite.

I liked Slade as a manager I really did but his tactics and ancient old formation set up is maybe the sign that football has moved on. .
Fenty wanted to get a man in to take us to the next level but again a decision what only he knows what he was thinking.

Decent hit but utter shite from Summerfield & Dixon who didn't bother trying to close down the attacker, and then rubbish from McKeown who was rooted to the spot. Looked close enough for him to have saved if he'd bothered diving.

Anyone with half a brain who have watched town over last season knows if you want to challenge the top then summerfield and berrett ain't your centre midfield ..Sorry

Surely that then is RS's fault? They are both bloody awful, we know they are bloody awful, yet they still steal a wage here. We let Dis go to keep these utter shirt fillers. Blame is also partly at the feet of Hurst who signed York City failures on such contracts in the first place.

Yes we do Clements can't even get in the squad, it's impossible for him to get match fit if he doesn't get any minutes. Clearly Slade rates Berret and Summerfield more highly.

What makes it all really frustrating is the Stevengw don't look good. Last week Coventry could play the all about and you can understand the loss. We look terrible and have made an average team dominate comfortably.

lumbered with several midfielders he cant get rid of and probably restricted because of the wages they take. the likes of summerfield and berret really wouldnt have been anyones choice. that along with macallisters permanent injuries the midfield are woefully short, this must surely impact the rest of the team.

Michael Leary worked hard but was still dogshit. I'd crawl off the pitch if I could play for town, but I'd still be awful. It's simply not good enough to work hard, you need some skill and brains to match it. The last 14 months have been pretty horrible, when they should have been joyous.

Yes but generally the problem starts in the Cnetre mid areas. the other players have at times shown promise were as we have looked woeful all the time in the middle with the relegation kids from york. Not seen enough of rose to make a judgement on him yet.

At least we've got Berrett back for next week so he can ACTUALLY START alongside Summerfield. Hopefully Hooper and Kelly play too. And Clem and McAllister and Osborne are all left out.

Yeah this guy really knows what he's doing compared to Bignot.
Doesn't change that Bignot was clueless and out of his depth. We would be no better off with him in charge. Your mate has gone. Deal with it.

Err I'm watching the game and he's been our best player (admittedly that's not been hard today). The only one in a town shirt today who's actually tried to make things happen instead of aimlessly hoofing it onto the heads of their centre halves.

Didn't even attempt to dive for it, the shot was close to him and he just watched it go in. He was quick to moan at the defence for a goal hit from outside the area almost immediately though!

Time will tell on that one. Slade is arguably a better manager than Bignot but stability is definitely better than changing managers and players every 6 months. Can't defend Sam Jones today but he's bound to be frustrated when the manager who signs him is sacked and replaced by someone who wants him to play a completely different role.

I do think people did tend to go OTT regarding Bignot too, he didn't wow me but his recruitment was relatively solid and I don't doubt he could have developed into a solid League 2 manager. I guess we just don't have the time to develop. Not sad he's gone and don't want Slade sacked but people act like Bognor played Disley left back.

What is it with our last 3 managers who simply don't like playing a winger out were a winger should be.
You look at the football league and all the successful teams play wide players wide.

Bad day at the office from the sounds of things
Disappointed that we got off to a flyer at Chesterfield only to follow up that good start with two defeats
It's only early in the season though so just need to bounce back next week
Fail in that one and I might start to worry

Slade is having a bad couple of years , way too early to say anything but clearly 2 rotten performances and not impressed with some of the new signings. Will be happy with half way this season. even put money on cov today to win based on them looking very good, not do sure now. Very sorry for loyal away support who deserve much better utm

Don't be a pillock. Slade isn't really proving to be any better is he?
I'm not the pollock bringing up past managers. I was happy when your chum got the boot. I was also happy to give him chance when he started dicking about with formations to give him more time. Which he got and still looked clueless. I'm certainly not convinced with Slade at the moment. I don't think he has the players to play Sladeball. If he can't get them to adapt or IMO change his game plan, then he has to go. But he needs to be given till Xmas to try and sort it. If he does go and the next guy doesn't have a good start, I won't be the pillock banging the drum about Slade. Past managers and players have gone, for better or worse. Don't see MB proving us wrong at the moment !! I'm off for a beer so with the mood I'm in I hopefully will stay off the board.

Yes but generally the problem starts in the Cnetre mid areas. the other players have at times shown promise were as we have looked woeful all the time in the middle with the relegation kids from york. Not seen enough of rose to make a judgement on him yet.
Yeah don't disagree with the midfield point but it's hard when the back 4 don't give you the ball as they just want to pump it long. Either way I think it's clear that if Osborne and Clements where available Summerfield would ot get a look in, not sure what to make of Rose yet either to be honest.

I think we're stuck with him unfortunately - Fenty was very cagey and refused to answer when questioned at the appointment press thingy how long the contract was, listening to it I think we're looking at a 2 or even 3 year contract, and I highly doubt we've got the money to pay him off. He should never have been brought back.

2 bad performances and 2 bad results were started with a totally avoidable disasterous freekick goal. In hindsight, this goal looks even worse for what has followed since.

3 bad performances in my book, we got the points at Chesterfield but were fortunate on the day to do so i think. We have had three games now where we have isolated our striker, had minimum possession and surrendered large chunks of the pitch at will. 4-1-4-1 certainly hasnt made us a sustained attacking force and defending for long periods needs ultimate concentration and disicipline to prevent goals against. Something that clearly didnt happen today.

Don't forget that the 'goal' in question shouldn't have been awarded.
It sounds like the main problem is that we've played really poorly in the past two games. How much of that is down to the formation remains to be seen.

Well according to the majority of posters on here the appointment of Slade was a masterstroke in spite of his disasterous previous appointment.

The most worrying part is the nature of the last two defeats the lack of ideas and movement is strikingly obvious. Teams know Dembele is our biggest threat but we make it easy for teams to work us out.
Why do we persist in keeping the other dangermen with pace on the bench?
The defence knock it about square then as they get closed down (there not the quickest) in foot and brain the aimless hoof up field results in losing possession.
Sorry but anyone who thinks Pearson was below Dixon or Clarke in terms of ability and pace are crazy.
We lack a midfield player with a hunger and brains in the Jon Nolan mould or even Disley at his best both players were ball winners WANTED the ball and were able to pick a pass to the front men.
Our set up is so slow and negative it invites teams to push up. This tactic can only work if you have pacy players on the flanks or up front to hit on the break but despite having these players on the bench ie Tombola and the new lad we do not use them until it is to late?
Please prove me wrong but the defence looks slow and without ideas the midfield lack hunger and vision Upfront Jones as proved he can score goals but not sure Slade believes this and strikers work in pairs off each other not isolated on there own.

I am not a fan of Slade but c'mon, it's three games into the season. Yes, we were sh1te last week and sounded worse today but it's early days yet and we shouldn't be panicking. We have more points than massive Lincoln and only one less than Mansfield who signed about a hundred players.
There's obviously things to work on, starting tomorrow morning by the sound of it. If we are still getting dicked by average sides after about a dozen games, then i'll start to worry a bit.

Basic passing and movement at a decent pace would be a great start without looking at our possession stats over the last three games I doubt we have been pulling any trees up. One thing Hursts team did was his players usually put shifts in and worked for each other.

His starting line up looked wrong not long after the start but to be fair with injuries he has less options than he would have liked, he left it till half time and changed it with 2 subs and a move to 4-4-2, not sure what more he could do to be fair as too many player let themselves, him and us down with poor energy and a lack of character at 1 - 0 and onward. Maybe he should have put the young lad from Norwich on earlier and given McAlister some game time, would it have changed the score? not sure, but it may have been a good thing to do with the next game in mind. In reality I doubt he tells the players to "hoof it up to the front lads" but that's what happened today once after about 10 mins they pressed us with a high line, we just did not have the savvy and possibly the ability to just get hold of the ball for a sustained period and settle into some rhythm. I don't think Slade should be judged too much on the results season to date but even at this early stage he should be under the spotlight now going forward to see what improvement initially in performance and then hopefully results he can deliver.

I think you are being generous in saying we are average on todays performance. I doubt we will beat many teams playing as ineptly as that. If we don't snap out of it pretty quick there wont be many people at BP keeping the club afloat.

When Fenty said he wanted Slade to take us to another level he didn't specify if he meant up or down. Its vital we maintain consistency - so who is going to get sent off on Tuesday? Bag of sh!te - Hurst must be p!ssing himself laughing
Ipswin by far don't flatter yourself but I actually agree.

Give it a rest will you. You can be the bigger club if you like......nobody gives a to$$. And yeah you are still above us but there's a very long way to go yet. Can't believe some of the things being said on here and on our site to be honest. Thing is although we are not posting the point's at the moment we are playing ok and we are prepared to be patient as opposed to some on here who seem to want Slade hung drawn and quartered already....3 games in.

Well I have never ever said we were going to run away with the league. I try to say it as it is and be objective as possible. I don't wear rose tinted glasses and as I said although we are dissapointed with our points total we happy with our performances so far.

Does anybody remember the thread when Helgy said Lincoln are championship level, I can't remember seeing the comment, could be an interesting read to see if he backed up his comments.

Indeed. You so don't give a t0ss that you are on a rival message board on a Sat night. I guess Jules isn't playing at that time, you have no other mates so you have to come on a grown ups site. I don't really blame you. Why shop at Liddle when you can come to Harrods.

Difference being towncryer accepts where they are currently and is happy with the way they're trying to play and progress.. Just check out our forum the last 24hrs and see the difference in view. He's a pain at times on here but at least he's accepting the way it is

Performances don't stop you being relegated, points however do and I would have thought you'd have learned that the last two times you dropped out of the league.

Herts, you mis-read Helgy's post, He stated the following - ( Trevor Sinclair was blown away by our training thought it was at championship level when he watched a training session.)

I will stand corrected............... Do you think that Sinclair might just have been blowing a bit of smoke up their backsides as he was actually covering them for the FA cup MOTD/Football focus?

Accepted but don't you think forums become a bit boring after a while when everyone is wearing the same rose tinted specs? I don't come on here spouting the how good we are and how crap you are routine but I accept that I will get a bit of the gang mentality with you all sticking together if I say something you don't like.

All wearing rose tinted specs ?? 😂😂😂😂 Try actually reading all the threads before posting such drivel. I realise that's not easy with you reading vitalgimp. Where more than two replies (other than Jules multiple logins) is fantastic. Up your game Steve if you want to play with the grown ups.

Ah you must mean the first home game against Coventry ? That would also be the day we started with James berrett and Luke summerfield as our midfield , enough to kill anyone's optimism.

Did we only have 2 midfielders against Coventry? I must have missed something. Are you forgetting that Berrett played against Chesterfield and Summerfield came on?

Which is why I said started the match against Coventry.. Any GTFC fan who has seen berrett and summerfield over the past year or so knows them two starting in your midfield that they just ain't good enough. You can dress it up as much as you want they ain't got the qualities to be in a starting 11 in midfield at a club looking to be top seven.

Who started in midfield against chesterfield then? Surely Slade didn't change a winning team.

I'm not suggesting they should both start but one of them can at least pass the ball which we appeared to be sadly lacking yesterday.
