Anyone know why they have been taken off sale and will nor be available on the day? Apparently Grimsby Safty Advisory Commitee have done it in conjunction with Police!
Surely this will just encourage them to buy tickets for home stands!

I would imagine they have sold their 1900 allocation. They were well on the way to that yesterday.

Tickets have this morning been taken off-sale for Coventry City’s away game at Grimsby Town.

The decision to take tickets off sale was taken by Grimsby’s Safety Advisory Group, following consultation from their local police force.

Following this decision, tickets will NOT be available to buy on the day of the game.

Coventry City are disappointed that more of the Sky Blue Army will not be able to attend, despite both Grimsby and Coventry City anticipating on the day sales, but unfortunately this is beyond our control.

Strange decision, reading that makes me think they hadn't sold their allocation but expected more to travel that we could accommodate? Or that the police hadn't prepared enough resources for the large away following.

To be fair to Humberside police they don't have the staff or resources to cope with big away followings as it has shown in the past.

Why do they need loads of police tomorrow? Have Coventry got a known force of hooligans? Plus ours only turn up for the big local derby's. Very strange decision. Also with games like this they should open up the main stand for families of away fans, Plymouth have a family stand where both home and away fans are welcome.

It's not even like the force is stretched tomorrow with Scunny away and Hull hosting Burton. Very strange decision unless there is specific intelligence.

If we are now happy to be back in the receiving of good numbers of away fans that had disappeared with most Conference followings, then whatever safety plans that were in place for that league have to be updated and re-appraised for the League followings.

They have to plan for our brilliant following going to their grounds, so why are we any different?

Away fans bring income - we should relish more income going into the coffers this year from bigger relegated teams arriving here !

Coventry are the best supported team in League 2 by a mile why on earth do they have to make life so difficult for travelling fans?I expect this is down to so called police intelligence and previous history from over 25 years ago football fans do have long memories.

What shouldn't happen is for town fans to go on the cov message board and suggest they go in the main because the tickets have stopped being sold.

The main stand is home fans only and despite the jokes about it being the "werthers brigade" inviting away fans into it is a recipe for trouble

Afternoon guys...

Was hoping to travel up with the family in the morning but that's obviously been ended now.....very disappointing.

They must have been expecting hundreds to pay on the day....this happened at Crewe a few years ago and there was loads locked out.

I'm sure you will find the majority of Cov fans good natured and contrary to some of the comments I have read, the big club arrogance disappeared for most years ago........we've been through that much s h I t.

I suspect it's more down to Sheffield United a very few years ago. The police are not worried so much about inside BP or probably even about Coventry fans in general. It's August. Cleethorpes High Street and the Prom are beckoning the idiots.

You may well have a point and yes we have plenty of idiots but even so the planning for this must have been sorted weeks ago.  Cov will bring more than any other club I suspect but had it been further into the season and playing well the demand would have been double and more so very surprised.

I would imagine we'll take 2k plus to your place and can only imagine the outrage if we were treated the same as you guys have been. Maybe the club and police have their reasons, but to not offer an ounce of empathy or shred of reasoning in their statement is embarrassing. The whole thing smacks of being tinpot, an unfortunate recurring feature of our club's "PR" department.

Police intelligence (oxymoron) no doubt, certainly has been some beef in history with Coventry following a certain jolly hockey sticks outing there a few years ago...on my last trip to Highfield Rd they welcomed us with a low level firework display, free pint glasses and a selection of pool table accessories ....Vauxhall Tavern i think was the pub ??

All about the owners mate, very well documented and very long.

This together with being one of the most unsuccessful clubs in the football leagues in last few decades has caused major apathy...

Agree with Bigdog, the police call themselves a "Police Service" well that's a joke, ordinary football fans are a pain to them were all holigans wanting to fight cause trouble. Don't get me started on how they deal with general burglary etc, from experience you have to be happy with just getting an incident number so you can claim on insurance but some weeks ago Look Norh had a report of some rare wild flower growing on the roadside that may get picked and there are the police reporting that they look upon this as a high rate crime.

So who's fault is it all ..your current predicament ?

We still like to blame ITV Digital for going bust for starting our rot.

The problems really began back in the mid to late nineties when Cov endured a relatively successful period, the days of Atkinson/Strachan, Whelan, Keane, Dublin, Huckerby etc....

The debt was building as the club chucked bad money after bad in desperate attempts to retain Premiership status.....the relegation and the subsequent failure to return at the first attempt was the other catalyst for disaster.  The new ground was financed and planned with Premiership football in mind obviously.....poor performances saw the crowds drift from 20/25,000 down to below 17/18k and it's been a downward spiral.

Sisu rescued us from administration but have systematically killed the club over the last 5 years, falling out with the council (who owned The Ricoh) and other partners thus driving us into isolation off the pitch.  This together with very limited funding, asset stripping and poor footballing decisions and you have the modern day Coventry City.....I could go on and on.

It's a club with passionate fans, a good away following and yes it's a proper footballing City.....Jimmy Hill must be turning in his grave.

Did I hear the other day that Coventry haven't finished in the Top 6 of any Division for something like the last 40 years?

I went to watch Muse at the Ricoh, and while  I was there I discovered how the club were being shafted by a consortium which included their own council.

They paid a staggering rent of one and a half million pounds a year to use the stadium. The consortium kept all the match day revenues including car parking at £11 a car.

All the club got was the match day ticket sales and programs.

Clearly unsustainable

I feel for the fans of the club.

So Grimsby can take 4K to Donny, 2600 last week and the local police seem to cope, but Humberside police are panicking at approx 1400 from Coventry, they must be a right mob so tomorrow will look like a war zone by 5 pm.

I think it's about time that fans took the police to task over the way they can just change things around at a moments notice, causing major disruption to peoples lives just to suit themselves. They are suppose to serve the public, but when it comes to football fans, they become a law unto themselves without any form of accountability.

A recent example of this was when they suddenly changed the Cheltenham kick off time, for no good reason, and after fans had bought rail tickets which couldn't be refunded, leaving fans out of pocket.

It doesn't happen in any other walk of life, so how do they get away with it when it involves football matches?

I suspect their intelligence ( and I am not 'In the know') indicates a large bunch of fans travelling without tickets. By not selling any more they will then have space to round them up and take them to the game. I would not be at all surprised if several Cov fans do end up paying on the day !
Total supposition on my part, but can't think of any other reason. Unless of course, it is just Humberside Police  being totally inept???

This is frankly ridiculous, how much money is this decision gonna cost the club in lost revenue,  and what about our reputation with travelling fans.

We seem to take masses on the road game after game and don't encounter this nonsense.

There will be many Coventry supporters who have not seen it on internet or live in area to see it in a news paper that will turn up tomorrow. More than likely elderly or families on holiday in the area. What will happen to them?

Football fans are easy targets for the Police. The Police have to cope if two rival demonstration marches are planned for the same Town or City. They do not have the powers to change times or turn people away or close pubs unless a crime is committed. But they seem to be able to do what they want to football fans.

They know the capacity of Blundell Park, they know the away allocation so why can't they plan how to handle it instead of copping out and turning people away, or changing kickoff times.

Even Football Fans have Human Rights Humberside Police.

I know it's great to be back and all that, but being treated as human beings in the Conference was infinitely better than being a commodity that can be used, abused and discarded in the Football League?

Looking on Coventry's site there might be a few in home sections, now we could really confuse the police( although that's probably not too difficult) if we welcomed them and spoke to them with no problems at all.

It's not the police but down to the club.

safety advisory group met yesterday and they imposed restrictions. SAGs always Chaired by local council.

Why has no one come out and explained why? Really drunk some off. Don't care who's fault it is surely gtfc know the reason why. If they came out and said intelligence has found a hooligan group chat / plan or something then already the genuine fans could kind of get it and understand, although even in that situation why should others suffer.

Ah it's the council, that explains it all now, they think that if they can restrict the size of the crowd than when we get nearer to planning the new ground they can claim that as the crowds are so small than the ground only needs to be small. Simples.

Not really thought about it so likely not.  I don't know the procedure in terms of emergency meetings but I will as always find out.

Its rare it happens so close to a game.  Categories are decided and then meetings take place right up to a few days before, if any new intelligence comes in the category can change which it seems it has here.  The SAG is there (Club, SGSA, Council, Police, Fire Brigade, EMAS and me) to ensure safety of supporters, this has caused a huge wave that they'd all choose rather not to have so you'd have to trust its done in the best interests of that.

That isn't saying however that had it been the other way round that I wouldn't be finding out exactly who attended that meeting and what was said.

The potential for trouble, and rumours of a large Coventry  hooligan contingent have been circulating pretty much since the fixture list came out. This last minute reaction is so so typical of the local police and council !! I hope that if any 'sensible Cov fans do end up in our stands they are not picked on.
On more than one occasion I have had to go in home stands at away games Usually sussed within 10 Mins. But never felt threatened.

Eh? Seems like gobbledegoock, if the SLO can't explain maybe the club should? Both sets of supporters clearly frustrated.

The vast majority of fans are civilised in my experience. Some get carried away in moments of excitement but scarcely ever with malice. Eons ago, home and visiting fans used to stand together and forced separation is a relatively recent 'abomination'. Nowadays, at away games, and not least because I'm exiled, I generally sit close to the half-way line among the home supporters. I did so at Chesterfield last week, will do so at Stevenage next weekend and probably again at Crewe on Sept 2nd. It's just a matter of showing some discretion and judging the levels of 'animation' in ones neighbours. Frankly, I don't see the harm.

1)  The club embarrassing themselves again, especially for the poor communication.  They should have made it clear it was a police decision because the police had miscalculated their resources for the day and weren't able to provide adequate cover, then apologised to Coventry City and their fans.

2)  Fenty should use this as an example of how BP is decrepit and not fit for purpose as a modern sporting venue.

3)  Kristine does a great job as SLO, but why was she not informed of this meeting or invited to attend?  The SLO is supposed to be involved in discussions between police and clubs and Kristine should be at these, or at the very least be told by the club that they are going to happen.  There has been a pattern of her not being invited or consulted on a number of occasions and seeming to be blindsided on decisions, often finding out second hand on social media before having to investigate and find out what's happened.

I think the Trust need to, as a matter of urgency, ask for clarification around Kristine's role and certainly ask for the club and JF to apologise for the discourteous way she has been treated over this matter and on other occasions.

Hi all. City supporter here.

It is an absolute joke. The decision has been made by people who don't seem to have a clue. I am one of the hundreds who don't have a ticket yet. I will know by about 10:30 if I am able to go. I have family spread from Immingham and Grimsby all the way to Louth and Skeggy. So was waiting to see if I could make it, and if so was my family able to visit the family for the weekend.

So now I have to decide if I travel and go in the home end. The last time we played at Grimsby it was a winter game. Being a local I knew I wanted the stand between me and the river Humber. I was the idiot celebrating the goal   But today we will have many who will want to get in. It was going to be POTG. To stop this you will have to stop selling tickets to your own supporters. Clubs in Division 4 can't afford to do this.

We are a friendly bunch. We have a few idiots but who doesn't. I can't remember the last time I saw trouble at a game. So if that is the reason someone has got it badly wrong.

Quite a few were making a weekend of the game. Not all had already bought their tickets. Not all will already know we can't get tickets. What happens when they turn up?

So it has gone from a friendly game where we could have shared pubs and had good banter to people being frustrated about wasted journeys and plans ruined. Are they all going to take it on the chin and walk away with a smile on their face?

I know Luke. I have a lad who is a GTFC supporter. I have watched a lot of your games over the years. You are a good bunch of lads. But decisions are made by those who think they know better. It is is supporters that are left to suffer.

This is going to cost your club a lot of money. And nobody will have to answer for what they have done. In all my years of watching Grimsby games I have never known anything like it happen before.

One game I will never forget was away to WBA. Must be over 20 years ago now. Was a very windy day. Suddenly the corrugated roof started falling onto the terrace. They wouldn't let us move until HT. Wr spent the first half looking up getting ready to watch the next bit coming down on us. Does anyone remember that game? If you was there you will.

I can understand why so many pay on the gate as Coventry sell their away tickets via Ticketmaster for some reason, and we all know how exorbitant their admin/postage fees are.

I think that this could all be a reaction from the Sheffield Utd friendly where the police were caught out. I believe there are now rules were the police cannot just turn buses away because 6 lads at the back have form, this tactic was challenged last year by I think Bristol City fans, so the authorities next plan is to make it as difficult as possible to get into games.Once again the minority spoil it for the majority.

Because they are clueless and inept at policing large matches.
If there is no trouble, the police will say they got it right. If there is trouble, the police will say I told you so.

They got it badly wrong against Sheffield Utd last year and again against Mansfield.  It would appear that everyone except police intelligence knows where the trouble will be.

What surprises me is that our great club are burying their head in the sand once more no communication with the fans on how they are going to handle the situation with potentially 100s turning up without tickets wanting to purchase home end tickets, do locals need to produce proof of address ?

I don't know why they didn't just make it all ticket for the away fans...judging by how many they sold already, they would easily have sold out the away end. Then the police have exact numbers. Job done. It worked fine for us at Chesterfield just a week ago.

According to les they use ticket master which I suppose will be very unpopular with the fans so perhaps Coventry advised to allow on the day sales, but this seems like a very poor idea allowing the opportunity of our idiots to purchase tickets in there

What an absolute mess. Once again fans being treated like dirt. I hope this doesn't put fans off travelling as I'm sure they will be able to get tickets for the Osmond on the day. Whatever excuses are given it doesn't justify the timing of the decision. If police budgets have been hammered so much that they need to stop fans attending matches because they can't police them then things are even worse than I thought. As for the club I'd imagine they'll lose around 20 grand and even more credibility from this decision.

It is up to the club to share what has happened. I know the reasons but can't say as it's been shared by family member and not been announced by the club for a reason.

If it was the police, don't you think GTFC would have already come out and said that? Yes.

It's not the police at all, it's down to the club and the SAG had no choice.

We are advertising for "Match Day SIA Door Staff" on OS. I wonder if it is the club that do not have enough staff? If so why? Do we pay enough? Makes you think.

No correlation - the advert for SIA is for the 2 guys in the lower which is subject to review after the 1st few games.

Kristine.

Could you tell us what this decision is actually based on ?
Who has prompted it. The Gy police ? The Cov police ?
Or either club ?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Today's situation?  All I know is that some late intelligence came in which led to the emergency SAG meeting with the outcome being to take tickets off sale immediately.

So I know no more than what has openly been reported at the minute.

What a joke I doubt they would of sold 1800 anyway was even mentioned on there own forum. so by doing this we now have a potential risk of crowd disorder in the home stand.. what a bunch of clowns.

hope the residents on Harrington street have been briefed to keep their doors locked regarding the Coventry fans... seem to remember them the last time just letting themselves in whilst running scared😂

Not our club. They were told not to sell any more.

We don't cause trouble. And we are used to losing games. Have you got any idiotic hooligans these days?  Someone might have heard something. So maybe they want to keep our numbers down and try and get us in and out ASAP. If so that alone could caused trouble.

Coventry Telegraph seem to know more. They are the only ones to quote Humberside Police.

This is why sport and politics must mix.

I can understand why so many pay on the gate as Coventry sell their away tickets via Ticketmaster for some reason, and we all know how exorbitant their admin/postage fees are.

Another example of someone else's interests over-riding those of the fans. All that matters is that someone makes a profit.

It's not the vast majority of fans that usually get their way though is it, unfortunately.

It is up to the club to share what has happened. I know the reasons but can't say as it's been shared by family member and not been announced by the club for a reason.

If it was the police, don't you think GTFC would have already come out and said that? Yes.

It's not the police at all, it's down to the club and the SAG had no choice.

All that we know so far comes from the Coventry Telegraph which directly quotes Humberside Police - see quote below. Seems to say information came from all 3 parties. In fact it explicitly says that the decision was taken by the local authority chair of the SAG. So it seems either Insp Snowden has it wrong or your source is wrong in that it's down to the club.

'Inspector Scott Snowden, from Humberside Police’s Command Support Unit, said: “Following a meeting of the emergency safety advisory group yesterday where information was considered from the local authority, representatives of Grimsby Town Football Club and police, a decision was taken by the local authority chair of the group to withdraw the sale of tickets available to visiting away fans.

“The safety of those attending this sporting event is a priority and a key factor in arriving at this decision.'

SAG can't make decisions only recommendations but all tend to follow these for obvious reasons.

It will come out in the end, I can say no more.

Typically there's nothing on the club site about this. 'Latest News' items are ads for an app and betting. A day after someone on a fan site made a post about it, there's nothing from GTFC.

Then it seems the SLO didn't even get informed of the meeting.

Shambolic communications as usual. It's time something changed within GTFC.

So you're saying Snowdon got it wrong in his statement? He explicitly said the chair of SAG made a decision.

Maybe he went to the same school of PR as the club's representative.

Over the years but not for a long time. Mainly when we have been started on. But yes we do have a few idiots. All clubs do. The vast majority of us want nothing to do with it these days.

Don't believe a word from the Telegraph. They get half of their stories from us as we know more than them.

What ever happens the police will come out and say they were right ,

They are scared Coventry fans will be like the Sheff Utd ones who caused havoc last August,

If there is no trouble they will say we stopped the hooligans coming,

If there is any trouble they will say it would have been worse if we had not restricted the numbers,

They have learnt nothing over the years,

Hooligans will travel whether they have a ticket or not,

I hope all the decent Coventry fans manage to get to the match whether they have a ticket or not,

Its about time the police stop treating the 98%/99% of good law abiding fans the same as the few hooligans.

I guess even if they have intelligence its not as simple as wait for the coaches to arrive or wait at the train station to arrest known trouble causers.  They have to be seen to be in the act.  Those with banning orders should turned away.

Its simple really.  Every football fan is given an id card with a barcode that officers and ground staff can scan. If someone has been naughty there id card gets blacklisted and is immediately identified  and arrested.

Life is so simple sometimes. Lol

I guess its expensive to implement to those at the FA.  But its quite simple.  If you threw a smoke bomb Abdul but got away with it on the day.  The police might be able to identify you.  Then mark you as blacklisted.  Then the next time you go to a game to gain access through the gates and hand over your ticket etc the gates would not open for you and the police on the seen arrest you.

Maybe if the fans can make enough noise something like this might get implemented.

Like Wembley., instead of scanning tickets it scans id cards.

Im not sure crusty but if the FA can afford to give clubs billions or millions of pounds something lime this would be a snippet to them.  Just sick of death of being tarnished with the same brush.

ID cards were suggested back in the 80's and highly campaigned against by FSF as was.  It's being discussed again in relation to Millwall away travel after Wembley and as far as I know Leeds have them.  It will not end those that wish to cause a problem because as a Leeds fan has confirmed, like with everything, if you want to get around it you can......

If you're sick of being tarnished with the same brush then why should every single football fan in the country have to apply for and carry an ID card to every game just because of a few idiots. This thread has started because football fans are unable to spontaneously travel to a game they want to see. ID cards would make that situation ten times worse.

I have to agree and would oppose any such format at this moment in time as a member of the FSF council.

I think it's something you've got to be willing to compromise on, as a concerted effort to stop those who are causing trouble. We can moan as much as we like, but in all honesty, the good fans don't do enough to help the authorities locate the bad ones. We just expect the powers to know who they are looking for.

Northumbria and Durham police outside BP. Looks like Humberside Police HR have been signing off too many leave chits for this weekend!

Saw a South Yorkshire one as well.

1350 away attendance today. Thourght the away end held circa 1900, and if it does hold that amount I couldn't see that many empty seats.

Maybe I'm just confused or eyesight is going, I don't know.

I went to a meeting the other week at which the PCC (Police and Crime Commissioner) for Humberside was speaking. He touched on the policing of big events and said that there is by necessity these days need to be able to call on resources from other forces so Humberside will make people available for events (including sports) in other areas on a reciprocal basis. I'm assuming Newcastle didn't play today and cannot think of any other professional teams in that area.

Guess it's just nice to see something in the Osmond end rather than empty seats, their fans were 6/10 at best

Ah I think it comes from six seasons of seeing rarely more than 50 in the away end. We were hoping you'd be loud but in all honesty Derby's 750 were louder but that may have been panic because they were drowning. We aren't very loud at home but you will know about us when we visit later in the season.

I don't think I've ever seen so many spotty Stone Island clad teenagers in my life. And I'm from Grimsby.

There was a lot of gesturing and arm waiving from angry old overweight men that should know better too, where the away stand meets the main stand. You know, the end of the main stand which is both the family section  and where the disabled fans sit. Tough guys.

Oh well. Tried to have a serious debate. But have had mainly contradictions back. What are you like with someone who hasn't been watching your club for over a quarter of a century but is only here to take the p1ss?

So what have I said that has been wrong? Either we were solid like I said we would be or you are crap. You are not crap as you won your first game away 3-1.

I said that Slade never has a plan B and his plan A doesn't work for half the time. Was 1 striker the way to play at home? Did he change it when he saw it wasn't working?

Oh well. Good luck until we play in Coventry. Good luck

Couple of things..................

How does it feel to be a council tenant? We played badly today and deserved nothing, we may be a small club with a small crappy ground but at least it's ours and we pay rent to nobody.

BTW are that total knob who threw the ball up int the stand when our keeper wanted it back or is he just representative of the classless fukers you are?

Portsmouth are a far bigger club than Coventry, beat us twice last season, their fans were far more magnanimous in victory, and had a lot more class.

Last I heard the only nthing stopping them going bust was the housing allowance they claim. Hell they cant be good tenants kicked out of Coventry, dodgy references given to Northampton (we is a big club and will fill the ground for you) so they would let em rent then kicked out (I think it was something to do with no one turning up to watch them which broke the terms of the lease) then back to another landlord. Theyll be playing on a park bench next season,

We are Grimsby town , a club whos fans came together when we were traveling to Braintree a few years ago and a club whos fans came together to raise money and a club who don't give a toss what you think as we have seen this all before ..

I mean the way things have been for us the past few years you think we are that bothered at being defeated at home by Coventry ? Don't make us laugh , you need to get your own house in order before you come on here acting all billy big bollox.

It wont work on here buddy.

I have no idea how they can be so sure of themselves. It took us six years to get out of the Conference and Pompey and Plymouth similar out of this seemingly easier division. It's a good start but it'll be hard to maintain.

After the game at your place I promise to come on to  your forum and be a knob like you are tonight, then again is it actually your forum or like your ground is it owned by someone else and do you let rugby clubs post on it on a Sunday?

Your club has been a laughing stock for a decade on and off the pitch, from the premier league to the parks league, your division 4 for a reason, must be horrible to see Villa, Leicester, Wolves Brum, MK Dons and even Northampton at a higher level than a "Midlands Giant" like yourselves. .

Not bitter like we say, no class, coming on here gloating behind a keyboard.

Top of the league after 2 games, but in 40 odd years never finished above 6 in any league, so good luck.

If you would to like personally slag of my team to my face, name your place, see you at Coventry.  You see a proper away following at your place.

Were we on your radar when we were facing each other in the second tier? Strachan got sacked after one of those occasions, so if we weren't, we should've been.

Nah read back...

None of that from me...

I said yesterday we have been through far too much so don't give me that...look at your own posters comments first ah chap.

Grimsby mean nothing to me, never been on our radar but now you are and we best you 2-0...that's football.

See you at The Ricoh for your cup final ah and yes I'm sure you will bring 2,000 etc and so you should....we took 43,000 to Wembley, nearly 8,000 to Milton Keynes in League One, 3,000 nearly to Chesterfield etc etc...what's your point?

Most clubs did not give a t**s about the tinpot trophy as they was a national protest about the competition, you only took 43,000 as its the only way you could get some revenue and it was you first visit to Wembley in about 39 years.

Big club, who holds the record for the highest attendance at the Rioch stadium? I give you a clue its not Coventry, but Leicester and Wasps 32,019 (Wasps V Leicester Tigers, 9 May 2015)

Playing second fiddle to a rugby as well.

I heard your owner going to change your nickname to the cuckoo's, I will let you work that one out.

Enjoy your big season back cos the boy Slade will make sure you're not around for long.

Like how the fook can you even compare your club to ours, the cheap comments about our demise etc, that may be so but we still managed to beat the famous Grimsby Town on a shoestring ah....male masturbators

What the fook is this "ah" business at the end of sentences? Have you had a knock to the head?

Well that went downhill quickly

We know that we are homeless. We know that we have been shafted for over 20 years. We know that we haven't had a top 6 finish for well over 40 years. And we are certainly not too big for our boots. Look on our forum. Your fellow supporters that came on got treated with respect. They gave the respect back. They gave us info where to park, where to get off the train and which pubs to use. They were spot on. I always had a laugh going to your games with you. You have a good set of lads as supporters. But on here?

We are not a big club even though we come from a big city. We have been ripped apart. The one thing we all have in common is our love of football and our football club. All we can do is keep supporting our football clubs. And hope that those running it do it for the love of it and not what they can get out of it.

Keep your chins up. There is a long way to go.

As I strolled down the prom yesterday and reflected on such a disappointing performance, I looked out to sea and thought, oh well, at least I don't have to go home to Coventry now.

The game at the Ricoh could be considered a cup final as the stadium does not belong to either side

Cheers for popping on Cov1, I for one can see you originally came in peace...the game changed on THAT decision unfortunately, so that irks however i think most of us on here know that on the day a combination of Slades tactics, square pegs in round holes and you having a superior midfield unit left us looking not really like being able to win the game and a draw was the best we would have ever got.

We can probably agree that the ref was sh1t as well, not helped by your players tendencies to fall over clutching their heads and legs at every opportunity which probably lost you a couple of genuine penalty shouts.

Not overly impressed with your back line despite them having a relatively easy task with our set up,  or your keeper and also up front you were relatively toothless i thought.

For large parts it was a game of two players...Demebele for us and your No.11....outside of those two the rest seemed pretty average. Hopefully we will have our best midfielders available soon and Slade will select more than one player with pace and guile.

I have to say that up until we gifted Coventry their first goal both teams looked poor with I think McKeown had only to make one fairly competent save.

After that I thought Slade's substitutions didn't work and we really didn't look like getting back in the game. Their second was down to poor defending again.

Not impressed with either side.

Was it Leicester v Wasps on 9th May 2015? Think the crowd was a tad over 32,000 that day.

The trophy was irrelevant it was a day out and a good one....after years of tosh.

Wasps are relying on the local community to boost their crowds.....they are at the peak of their existence pretty much where as we are clearly at the bottom....they average between 15/20,000 which obvs isn't a problem for Cov during better times.  I'm sure you will see crowds like that if we have a good season.

Well two games in and we have 0 conceded against two average teams in the league, I'll take that.

We will see how the next few games pan out and nobody in Coventry will be complacent, never.  Some very fair comments amongst your posters after the game, some complimentary and some not, standard tbh.  But yes I came on for some banter etc and in the main you have a good lot on here.

As for the McNulty goal, that type of situation will always raise debate etc but clearly it was a legit finish.

Grimsby will bring one of the larger followings to The Ricoh so hopefully we will see a good 15/16,000 crowd or more if we are still up there.

So this original thread was why ticket sales have been stopped, are we just going to have it brushed under the carpet and forgotten about ( as I assume those in authority want) or eventually get an answer. Heaven knows what the powers that be would do if we happen to progress in the FA Cup and draw someone like Millwall, Leeds etc. We have a SLO, let them explain to us.

We've been to Wembley loads in the last few years, gets a bit boring after a while. 20,000 for home games? Only if your next rental property is located on fantasy island!

Yes, there are still serious questions to be answered here about the Police preparedness, the local Safety Advisory Group's role and opaqueness of operation, and the Club itself, specifically its latest chapter of poor customer care and bungled communications.

We've been arguing in recent weeks about what the role of the Mariners Trust should be, so might I suggest getting some answers on the above points be a theme they can take up?

Absolutely Hackney. I'd expect the Mariners Trust as not only representatives of the fans but as major shareholders to be pressing for transparency on the reasons for this decision and on why the SLO was not invited. There's nothing on the Trust website about it (or the club site still).

Also there's nothing on the Coventry Trust's site either. I'd have thought they'd be pressing for answers too.

Doesnt matter now...the police can hide behind "the day passed off without incident"..."we had received intelligence that a significant group of risk supporters were planning to attend"...."public safety is our priority"....etc etc etc
Maybe they did, maybe the police were correct to do so....but also maybe its a load of horse sh1t.

Actually....who are the Safety Advisory Group ? and on what authority do they act ? I would have thought its the clubs responsibility to manage an event on their property and the police to manage events outside of that. Liaison between those two parties and the opponents counterparts should surely be enough?

"Homework" done and you possibly need to be careful what you wish for.............

Home gate average for Coventry City,

16/17 - 9118
15/16 - 12,570
14/15 - 9332

3 Season Average = 10,340 to hit 20,000 you will need to increase gates by just short of a 100%, I tell you move to fantasy island and you just might do it. You may as well make the move as you have no home at the moment

I understand that the 'Safety Advisory Group' are only advisory. So were GTFC happy to loose over £5,000 income or were they bullied into it by Humberside Police and/or NEL council?

Maybe Humberside Police wanted more extra money to police the match than the loss of income would be?

"Homework" done and you possibly need to be careful what you wish for.............

Home gate average for Coventry City,

16/17 - 9118
15/16 - 12,570
14/15 - 9332

3 Season Average = 10,340 to hit 20,000 you will need to increase gates by just short of a 100%, I tell you move to fantasy island and you just might do it. You may as well make the move as you have no home at the moment

...and those figures would have been boosted significantly by the likes of Sheffield United, Bradford City and maybe Walsall in a local derby. You'll get nothing like those kinds of followings down here - us apart, of course - which again will significantly impact on your avergae attendances.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

Yes obviously based on three of our worst seasons in history......amazing what some success might do.

I'll be back to talk Fantasy Island with you later on in the season

https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/safety-certificate/   has information, without it the club can't have fans in the ground.

Seems it won't work but does if you independently type it in.........

Addendum to the Safety Certificate issued by North East Lincolnshire Council to Grimsby Town Football Club.

The following temporary condition is being applied by the Council in respect of the football match scheduled to take place at Blundell Park on Saturday 12th August 2017 between Grimsby Town FC and Coventry City FC.

“The Council supports the fixture taking place under the stewardship of the Club subject to the following condition:

As a condition of the safety certificate the capacity for this fixture be reduced through no further sales of tickets to away fans (Coventry) with immediate effect and a 20% reduction in capacity for home fans.”

Signed on behalf of North East Lincolnshire Council

This sets a worrying precedence.  Done it once, will do it again!

Even more worrying is the 20% reduction in Town fans. What possible reason could they have for to do that?

We still do not know the reason.

aaahhhhhh.....i think i see......if i interpret correctly the club have refused or decided not too allow police in the ground (presumably they would have to pay extra to have police on duty if so)  looking at that wording, therefore the amendment was put in to limit the numbers so our part time stewards were not over stretched.

Could easliy be a plain financial decision by the club,   potential police bill 10K vs  lost revenue 4.5k  for instance. No brainer.

Is the ground no longer deemed safe at full capacity?

If that is the situation, let's hope that clubs looking at our 'boisterous' away support don't decide to do the same to us. Still, if they do, I'm sure that JF and the board will fully understand that other clubs are only protecting their 'revenue streams'   But then of course, they will still get to see the match live !!

Maybe some number cruncher could come up with the ideal figure allowed into BP that would create maximum revenue. Obviously screw the fans that may miss out.

Of course, opening all four stands for a checkatwat game must make perfect sense !!!!!!

I really hoped that getting back in the league would make us a bit more professional.  Clearly not

Anyone going to sanction jock dock tower for giving it the Billy big one about your massive away support !!!!
More importantly and from a financial point of view shouldn't you be a bit concerned that you only had just over 5000 fans there on Saturday for your first home game of the season and one of the more attractive ones having won the first game of the season away from home. Doesn't matter a jot how many you take away you earn nowt from it. Pretty poor showing wouldn't you say???

around 5.4k in the home section, maybe seen as a little disappointing but its our second season back in the league and follows a relatively low key pre season with no real anticipation built up by the club media, transfer dealings etc.  Given our ST sales were 2700 i think, then thats 2700 pay on the day punters we are at potential risk of losing....and when the manager plays an isolated lone striker and 10 others sat behind the ball you arent inspiring them to come back regularly.

Would expect to see probably 1k less in the home end next time out as well following that grisly display, our club never fails to underwhelm when it comes to PR, promotional ideas, marketing etc...and at BP we have had a terrible record over at least 4-5 seasons now so very little to inspire the floating public.

But other grounds that we go to do have the police in, and in numbers, not sure if its down to Humberside wanting to charge the earth so the club just refuse to entertain them or whether its a point of principal by the majority shareholder/ board not to use the police.

I have something nagging at the back of my mind that the club had a fall out with the police regards increases in matchday policing costs sometime ago but cant recall fully.

Yeah but I just don't get it moosey cos even I have to admit you do have good away support. Like I say it's all well and good supporting the team away but it's numbers through the home turnstiles any club needs.
Maybe it is the ground. Not being funny but it's not  the best by a long way and  thats just being honest, the sooner you get a move the better although unfortunately I can't see it happening anytime soon.

That's my point Moosey. What if they decide it's cheaper to reduce our allocation and have no police. We'd be gutted and pretty annoyed and rightly so.

I heard that GTFC were 20 stewards light on Saturday.
Also expecting a large number of away fans in the home stands (according to a steward who was there) , so stop selling tickets, so that any away fans in the home end could be transferred to the away end.  If Coventry had sold all they allocation, nowhere to put any overflow supporters, old bill and council not wanting any supporters milling about for 90 minutes outside on the streets.

So Kristine, are you going to let us in on the secret or are we not worthy. We the supporters basically pay to keep the club going ( apart from Mr Fenty's benign loans) and as tax payers pay for the police and council committees.

I love how Lincoln fans are suddenly dissing our home support when they have had terrible support for the last few years. Struggled to get 3000 some games.

We got poor crowds cos we were sh!te end of.
Anyway I wasn't having a go but was wondering why you have good support on the road but at home, when you have won away,it's your first home game of the season and it's a high profile match only around 5000 turn up.

Only 5000?! Have you had a look at the L2 attendances in recent seasons? There aren't too many clubs who get 5000 plus at home. In fact, there are a fair few L1 teams that don't.

Anyway I wasn't having a go but was wondering why you have good support on the road but at home, when you have won away,it's your first home game of the season and it's a high profile match only around 5000 turn up.

You might say you want banter but you come across as a smug illegitimate just because for the first time in 40 years your crowds bigger than ours. Funny amongst my mates the ones with all the yap are those that normally attended one home match year, v Grimsby, and that was the highlight of the year.

The true Imp fans, including some of the old LTE, were very quick to congratulate me when Town returned to the Div 2 and were genuinely pleased that one of Lincolnshire's clubs was back in the league. They will have "proper" banter when we play each other with acceptable levels of abuse, not heard one of them crowing about the size of the crowd though.

By the way on Vital Lincoln is that bloke Jules still messaging himself or has your new found fan base actually started to read his crap?

Only 5000?! Have you had a look at the L2 attendances in recent seasons? There aren't too many clubs who get 5000 plus at home. In fact, there are a fair few L1 teams that don't.

Fair point. Just thought that with winning the first game away and it being coventry at home you may have got a few more.

This post is clearly "having a go".

Never heard a peep from you lot for years and now you are on our board all the time giving it the big 'un. Do you think we didn't have years of sh1te, but our fan base stayed pretty good considering. You may have more fans this season but the glory hunters will soon fook off when the bad times return, and they will.

All respect for the 2500 faithful Imps who stuck with it during your stay in non league, but the likes of you and all the other Johnny come lately's can fook right off.

So, it's the middle of August, half-way through the school summer holidays. Now, I wonder why we might have had a few less fans than you might expect at other times of the year? The clue is in the word following "school" and "summer".

Can I point out for the sake of clarity that the role of SLO is a GTFC position not one controlled by The Mariners Trust.

Thanks for the clarification. But if the role is to liaise with supporters (and K does it very well when consulted) it doesn't matter who controls it.

I seem to remember us being shite for the majority of our time in the Conference but our numbers didn't drop off. We'll see how hardy these new found fans are this time next year if you've had an average to shite season. It's a shame we're unlikely to see a drop in match by match figures this season as they can always fall back on those numbers.

Helen Isaacs

Director of Governance, Democracy and Community Engagement,

North East Lincolnshire Council Municipal Offices, Grimsby, DN31 1HU

Dated  11th August 2017

Thanks for posting this. Can't believe the club have still said nothing.

Wait until winter with Lincoln hovering around mid table and getting less than 5000 crowds, now that will be so funny.

Bit of internet searching to establish that All clubs have to sign an agreement with local police re charges for any police inside ground each season at start of season.

I'm told we have not signed ours yet.

Any charge for police inside ground set nationally, this led to reduction in capacity from council on safety grounds.

if club don't sign, no police provided inside ground like Saturday.

Lincoln at home - no police inside? Capacity will be 100!

What we playing at?!

JF will be looking to minimise outlay and protect the business interests of the club....the key is ....How much do the police want for having officers inside the ground ?
If it is a disproportionate amount to the risk poised then why pay it ? Coventry will be one of 4 or 5 teams that could potentially sell out the away allocation...we lost potentially 450 (?) sales on Saturday with the reduction...x 4 or 5 games a year x 18 quid = circa 40k max over the season lost in income...if the police bill would equate to more than that then why sign upto it ?
Also considering that a reduced away support in theory gives their team less vocal support and us an improved chance of winning.

Maybe this was why Cheltenham dicked us around last season to reduce the away attendance.

Here we go again......"At the request of police, the Broadhall Suite will only be open to Stevenage supporters for this weekend's fixture against Grimsby Town."

WHY !    We were allowed in last season and there was NO trouble !

Is this a Police state. If the Police say jump football clubs say "How High".

Listen, totally agree with you but our crowds won't go down this season as we have around 6000 season ticket holders.
If we have an average to poor season it will be interesting how many will renew for next season though. The one thing I have noticed is the amount of females  and kids that are attending games. The club have done a massive amount of work in getting into schools and engaging the kids and that has paid offs. ......for this season at least.

You may have got in last season GM but I'm 99% sure that officially away fans were not allowed as I was planning to go but they announced no away fans the week before the game. Could be just to put off the majority though?

Not able to go this year as on holiday. Hope it's a better performance than last season. Actually, would be difficult to see how it could be worse!

Correct should have been the same last year - this year you have to show your match ticket to prove you are in a home stand.

After all this time I give up on getting the true story, the club, council, supporters trust and SLO none of them want to come out and properly explain the circumstances. At least Lincoln have got an excuse for not selling out the Osmond. Be warned though I think this could happen more often in the future.

Looks like the police didn't have sufficient resources to cover the match, so the club was forced to run the game with a reduced capacity in order to stay within the minimum Police:Spectator ratio.

This could have been down to holiday, deployment at Hull, other operations elsewhere in the force area or just plain old bad planning.

All of this might be understandable, but what is not forgivable is the lack of communication from the Club and the lack of clarity from the council.

What the hell is going on?  Why no answers?

Which remained undiscovered until Friday midday ?

I would love to know why exactly it happened.  The strongest rumour (and it is only a rumour) that I have heard is that Town could have sold the Cov tickets and not reduced us by 20%, but would have had to pay for policing inside the ground. The intel suggested that a core of Cov hooligans would be coming to pay on the day so therefore policing inside the ground would have been necessary. Town declined to pay an opted for what actually happened.  As I say, this is purely one of the rumours that are going round. If someone, be it the club, council, Kristine, whoever could actually put a statement out as to why the decision was actually made we could put this to bed.

Kristine probably hasn't got anything to say because she was kept in the dark by the club about the meeting happening in the first place. Maybe someone wanted to avoid putting her in a difficult position and ensuring plausible deniability by not telling her what the bloody hell was happening and why!

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,

Kristine does a fantastic job (apart from worshiping Barra   ), especially with one arm tied behind her back. So it's definitely not a pop at Kristine

I can confirm or deny nothing when I have no more information than what is on the council website.  I am speaking to various people but then you have to appreciate that I do this as a volunteer, I'm still working on the Chesterfield stuff as well as working with Stevenage and their Police. Its not my place to make statements on such things but will be looking to assist in making sure that we can negate this happening again.

As the SLO why are you not answering the questions from supporters Kristine?

If you are unable to say then don't you think the supporters should be told?

I think I've already been clear in that I don't have the answers to the questions and won't assume or speculate.

I think we need the old SLO back.

She would have plastered it on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in no time at all.

Boo Kristine, Boo

I know that. I mean I know it's not a pop at K. I didn't know she worshipped Barra though

No midweek game as such so the threads start going round the houses

I appreciate the job Kristine does, but there are one or two threads on here where people have speculated or heard rumours, Kristine then says these are untrue, but then later says she has not been involved and is trying to get the information. From all this this I think the supporters are treated like mushrooms from all the interested parties " kept in the dark and fed on excrement"

Because they are clueless and inept at policing large matches.

Jeeeeez - why are we building a new stadium again? What's the proposed capacity - 2k?
