I remember the begining of last year were people claiming Danny Andrew looked poor, bodes well for Dixon then.

But he was written off before he'd even kicked a ball for us, along with Summerfield.

Not by me. I've always been willing to give players a chance to prove themselves. Berrett has yet to do so to me. By far his best performance for us was the final game of last season when he did quite well. The fact that it took a whole season for me to see something from him is very telling. In my opinion, of course.

As it stands, we've got so many central midfielders on the books now that I think we'll be struggling this season if we don't have two of them more capable than Berrett.

Surely the fact that he played over 200 games in League 1 in central midfield suggests that he's more than capable of doing well in League 2 if played in his most effective position. To be honest, he didn't ever look fit last season - I suspect Slade will sort that out.

Slade will have us organised and efficient unlike some games last season,

If we can get the right couple of players in we will be in the play offs at least.

I'm not saying he's a world beater, I just don't see why it's necessary to constantly single him out for abuse.

He's got assists and goals from midfield in his locker, and takes an ok free kick/corner too. And he's a Grimsby Town player.

Berrett does manage to appear in the box at the right time, but unfortunately he then smashes his shots over the top. If he can improve this, that would be a very good start for people to appreciate him.

I think the problem is, he's a steady play. He's never going to do anything special. The question is, can we have such a player if we are aiming for promotion?

Berrett is like Vernon, he's a players' player. He will never be a fans' favourite but he does a job and quite possibly he could be part of the team plan. Having said that, yesterday was definitely a game, where Slade wanted to see what certain players could do against tougher opposition before making his mind up  on final decisions about signing trialists or letting people go out on loan. Berrett may be one of those and yesterday his make or break.

Does he actually get that much abuse, I don't really rate him, but that's not abusing him.
