I wonder if there's any significance to Issah not playing?
He could just be injured or not turned up (got a better offer), or if we've seen him in training already (no idea if we have or not) and he's decent, maybe Slade's held him back as he doesn't want them up the a180 sniffing round him. Pure guesswork obviously, could be 100 reasons.

Trialist Fox doesn't appear in the squad today, does that mean RS seen enough and binned him, or does he have a prior appointment somewhere else, is he injured, all guesswork at the moment!

Do today's GTFC IT issues extend to naming the completely wrong player as a trialist? Classic GTFC if that's what has happened and not a complete surprise.

at the game and wanted to say the following:
no3 Paul Dixon. Had a really good game in my opinion. Looked solid, wasn't afraid to be vocal and looks to have a decent cross.
no4 Kamal Ait El Haj. didn't look out of place at all. made good simple passes and tracked back well. showed a little skill too.
no6 Jack Keeble. His performance will probably go unnoticed by most but he looked comfortable and solid and although the defence weren't troubled much he defended well and wasn't afraid of tackling.
no7 Tom Bolaringwa. pretty anonymous which is disappointing. didn't do anything that made me take much notice
no8 Luke Summerfield. Hard working but with little technical ability. I'd be surprised if he's more than a fringe player.
no9 Brandon Robinson. linked up pretty well with Yussef and Dembele and probed the defence
no10 Sikiri Dembele. worked himself into decent positions and had a couple of chances. linked well with Robinson and Yussef
no11 Adi Yussef. Got himself on the scoresheet and looked decent throughout though had small lapses in concentration was sorted by Dixon.

Most people around me thought he was the best player on the pitch including myself, the only thing is we have to remember who we were playing. He certainly didn't do himself any harm today but let's see what he can do against Barnsley on Saturday.

OR was he never coming on trial in the first place and somebody got mixed up. Seems a bit of a coincidence that the trialist who actually did play has the exact same first name.

Pleasant stroll in the sun and an enjoyable game, if a tad one sided. Had to laugh at the sign outside BP Hotel saying home supporters only. Good amount in the ground, certainly more than for most reserve games. So....
Scunny were very young and inexperienced and one or two of them looked about 14 years old. Subsequently, our defence was totally untroubled, so it's hard to say much about Dixon. Not bothered at all defensively and not a lot to report going forward, but what he did do was tidy and he looks to be a steady Eddy with a decent cross in his locker. Mis-controlled a couple of opportunities but worth another look. Wilko had a long chat with him when he came of, so make of that what you will.
The Gowling lookalike was tall, elegant, languid and very economical. Did a lot of first time passes and sprayed some lovely balls out wide. Didn't try too hard and just coasted around the pitch. Could tell he has played at a higher level but there were 2 things about him i noticed. No left foot at all and played as many passes with the outside of his right foot as he did with the instep. He also got caught in possession more than once but that could be down to playing in leagues where thy get more time and space. If signed, could be anything from a revelation to a liability, perhaps in the same game.
Paul Jones didn't get long enough to do much of note, so can't say much about him. Other trialist Rollins looked quick and strong but again not a lot of time to assess.
Best trialist for me was Robinson. Quick, strong and tricky. Played right from one side to the other, put in some wicked crosses, one of which Yussuf scored from and rifled in a cracking goal too. Worth another look definitely for me.
Of the others, first time i've seen Demebele and Cardwell. The former is very quick with equally quick feet and surprisingly strong for his size. Cardwell a lot bigger than i imagined and looks a decent player. Scored a good goal but then fluffed a simple chance but i think he's also worth another look against stronger opposition. Bolarinwa was very disappointing, given the strength of the Scunny players and given his pace and power. Didn't do much at all. Summerfield neat and tidy but nothing more. Yussuf looks very fit, strong and athletic and to me looks improved on last season. Could be a useful player next year.
Right, need to get back in my workshop now.

Robinson could be a useful player to have if he's decent and can cover wide areas as well as up top. A bit like Yussuf who sounds to have developed a bit since last season, maybe it'll be like having a new player because after his promising start he just disappeared. Fingers crossed.

Bolarinwa was very disappointing, given the strength of the Scunny players and given his pace and power. Didn't do much at all. Summerfield neat and tidy but nothing more. Yussuf looks very fit, strong and athletic and to me looks improved on last season. Could be a useful player next year. (Thought he hung onto the ball too much at times and poor awareness of others around at times).
Pretty much mirror your thoughts Ginny apart from comments above. Seemed to be a 4-1-4-1 formation, with full backs progressing up giving width pushing the wingers even further up and the 1 in the middle sitting very deep shielding the two centre backs mostly. Regards the trialist certainly cant offer anything to them on that, given the standard of opposition, Robinson worth another look for sure but Issah i wouldnt bother with, certainly had a good touch, good ability, very comfortable on the ball and never seem pressured but he wasnt dynamic, alot of his passes were either short and sideways or wide diagonals which although eyecatching were standard fare really when the wingers had so much space to run into, i think we already have players better suited to our League in the camp. Dixon...got caught out a couple of times which is worrying given the young opposition but looked comfortable and assured in possession and decent delivery. Another look potentially but wouldnt be thinking only what if should he go elsewhere. The winger from Boston started bright and looked purposeful but faded. Left as the 4th goal went in as had to be back in the office so not sure about the rest. Noticeable tactics.....just about every left sided corner was worked short with some success...the 4-1-4-1 allowed us to have Dembele, Bolarinwa and Yussuf supporting the attack, all seemingly license to interchange and linked up well. We still cant take a decent throw in.

I thought the Gowling clone was absolutly superb! Head and shoulders above what weve had trying to do the same job for yonks. And that Robinson fella had a brill 1st touch when backing into defenders with the ball to feet. Pretty sure if he lost posession once it never happened again. Sorry for being so positive on here but havent typed for a while as ive been banned off facebook for using the word ' chinky ' from 3 years ago! #bringbackzhang

That's exactly what i thought about Issah moosey- not very dynamic. Looked superb at times but didn't really actually do much. Not sure he would hack it in League 2 but then again, he could adapt and be great. Undecided on him.

I too was impressed with Al Haj ,the Gowling clone . First half particularly ,he didn't put a foot wrong. I thought he looked a class act , one of those players who seems to cruise through the game , doing a great job , without seeming to expend too much effort. I thought his range of passing was excellent , and also the way he moved to be in position to receive a pass. He also seemed to be trying to organise the players around him . Second half , just before he was subbed , he did deliver a couple of wayward passes. Perhaps just proving nobody's perfect. !!

Is Akheem Rose not in contention for some game time? it sounded promising but he hasnt had a look in yet.

Was told today that he has an injury, suppose that would make sense as he hasn't featured in any preseason game yet..

one thing for sure though, it was nice to see a technically proficient footballer in the black and white stripes again

I always think that a good player always seems to have time on the ball and thats just what Kamel displayed. thought he was best on the park myself.

Agree on that. Technically, he was very good and it's been a long time since we have had players so comfortable on the ball. Having watched the highlights, i feel i must apologise to Tombola, who had more good moments than i remember. Funny how highlights can sometimes go against your perception of the match live.

I too was critical of tombola but the match report in the telewag told me he got 2 assists so must've done better than I have him credit for.
an attacking 4 (1 striker, 1 AM and 2 wingers/inside forwards) gets me excited as the players we have in those positions all seem very capable.

Great finish from Robinson for the fourth. Doesn't matter who's in goal for that one, they're not saving it. Definitely worth another look against better opposition. Cardwell's was also a very neat and smart finish and he scored one similar in another game previously. I don't know what his overall gameplay is like but if he's able to finish like that consistently then he looks like a natural goalscorer, maybe worth a look.
I know we weren't exactly playing a good side today but it looked like there was far, far more movement particularly in the midfield. Far too many times last season we were almost static with nobody taking players away with runs and leaving holes for others to drop in to but it looked like that's been worked on. If it has, let's hope we can replicate it when the opposition are a better standard because that would be a big improvement on last season already.

I haven't been to any yet so can't judge personally. But it must be a relief not to concede.

That's a good idea. We are playing Boston next week- i'm sure there are plenty of six fingered Bostonians looking for a bit of extra cash, seeing as the Eastern Europeans have put them all out of work.
