Pre season is underway now, and RS said he hoped to have most signings in before pre-season!

With Asante having another set back, do we need 2 strikers now?

Would love to see the young Forest striker come in as one of them!

Thought this thread was going to be a rumour or a source stating we nearly actually have a new striker 😞

I'd say he has made 'most' of his signings.  He has 4 new signings and re-signed Davies and Collins.  I'd say there may be 2-3 more plus 1-2 season long loans which rarely become available until later on, once clubs have started pre season and evaluated their squads.

Thought this was going to be some solid news lol, turned out to be another pointless thread. Of course we want a new striker and maybe a couple more in but until something happens we can only speculate and moan that pre season didn't start with a fully finished squad.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

That would make sense, worked with both Slade and Wilkinson before and I think I would prefer Tudgay to Maynard if we had to choose between one

Marcus Tudgay - Only scored 12 goals in 70ish games in the last 3 seasons for Coventry, and 34 years old.

Would like someone a bit younger or someone who has scored a few more goals.

But Slade knows better than me!

It wasn't Hurst that signed him though, he inherited him and obviously didn't want him. Ebanks-Blake had a couple of prolific seasons for Wolves and hasn't really done a whole lot since he left them, so whether he still has that goalscoring touch is debatable. He's no target man either, so is he really what we are looking for?

An athletic target man, perhaps? An LJL-alike?

Big, strong and able to run isn't a bad combination all told, providing they can play a bit as well.

I don't think we have a natural target man at the club but then i don't know if that is the way Slade wants to go. The guy on trial looks a big unit, certainly a lot bigger than Ebanks-Blake.

Well when asked about Maynard or walker, he said he was looking for strikers in that mould. So I think a striker who mainly has good movement to stretch defences. I doubt we'll play the same as we did the last time slade was here as it doesn't suit the team with the likes of jones, Osbourne and dembele. I think we're likely to see a sort of 4231 with a fast tempo to feet. Certainly, if we do play like that, a Osbourne, jones, dembele line up looks exciting as a 3 behind a good striker.

I think Vernon's a good target man, if you watch some of his better games towards the end of last season you can see he's a very clever footballer who occupies defenders. He's not great in the air but will hold it up well.

I think it all came to a head at the players Christmas bonding session when he was involved in a fracas with another player who apparently came off worse, think we could do better.

Didn't know that so looked it up and the other player involved ended up with 15 stitches. Also noticed that he was involved in another fracas at a nightclub once. Seems a bit of a firebrand.

As for Vernon, i like him as a player and i would say he is more of a hold up type forward than a target man, as he is not really that good aerially. As stated, i have no idea how Slade wants to play but last time we had Jones and Reddy. Jones was a very good hold up player but if memory serves me, also not brilliant in the air either. Will be interesting to see what we go with in the season.

As I recall, he wasn't your archetypal 'target man' and didn't win too many up and unders against big defenders. However, he certainly challenged well in the air and, given the right ball, could land his headers on a sixpence. I remember a couple of great headed goals where he headed it at the back post, looping it over the keeper into the far corner. One against Lincoln, I seem to think? Or am I just imagining that?

I think for all the talk of a target man and a physical presence up front, it would be nice if there weren't too many hit and hope whacks upfield, especially with the ball players we now have in midfield.

Fair enough. Averaged crowds just over 12500 last season (and came 2nd) so it's clearly a step up from signing for Motherwell or Kilmarnock or whoever.

Vernon is fine as a hold up man, he just needs mobile players in and around him.  My concern with him as a lone striker is that if the support is lacking, he's totally isolated and doesn't have the pace or movement to go at it alone.

Yussuf looks to have bulked up a bit over the summer months and would be worth a go in that role.

I'd agree with that. He was a very intelligent player and if he did manage to get his head to the ball before the defender, he used it well, but he was't the type of target man that would dominate a centre back in the air. I also hope we don't just have a lump it up type style of play and seem to remember Slade favouring the diagonal ball to the corners and the team getting up the pitch rapidly, putting defenders under pressure. The quick break from back to front was also prevalent.

Maynard signs for Aberdeen so forget that one

With this news, do we expect Tyler Walker to sign in the next couple of days?

It is a bit of a tricky situation with us already having Vernon, Yussuf and Asante on the books with of course Jones too.I did no go last night but was there on Tuesday and Cardwell looked to have something about him. Won some headers, ball control decent and took his goal really well. Probably not up to speed fitness wise but looks better than a few we have had. Hope Slade gives him a full pre-season to see how he shapes up. If he gets over his injury ok, Asante will be like a new signing in Sept.

An athletic target man, perhaps? An LJL-alike?

Big, strong and able to run isn't a bad combination all told, providing they can play a bit as well.

Oh, I think I'd be happy to sign a striker whose shooting was so wayward that he managed to score 20 in a season.

Mickey?

Maybe RS is going to do something smart.....like using the cash* from the sale of Omar Bogle to re-sign him?

Interesting that in todays telegraph interview, he says it's a matter of waiting to see if the targets' teams can get players in before signing them. I doubt that can refer to walker or Hart, so maybe potential fees for players.

Disagree.

I'd say it makes it especially likely to be players like Walker and Hart. Because their Clubs wouldn't loan then out unless they've got adequate numbers in themselves.

Really? You think liverpool would need to have cover for Hart or first would for walker? They clearly are not currently in first team contention so I doubt it. I imagine they are back ups to other targets.

Yeah maybe less so for Liverpool, unless their u21 side (or whatever age he fits into) want to get covered first.
But Walker I'd guess might be back up to strikers at forest and as you can't usually recall from a season-long loan they'd probably want to make sure they're set for the season first.

Either way we'll have to just wait and see.

Still possible. Liverpool are known to be in the market for a left back after playing Milner there much of the season and klopp clearly doesn't trust Moreno. So even though a young lad, they might still want him as emergency cover until a new LB signed
