Alan Connell was a better all round striker for the season we had him here, and his goals were against any type pf opposition, not just the top teams.

Playing in a fucking awful team too!

Connell really was a joy to watch. Was gutted when he left as he'd been the first player who gave us something to cheer about in some years.

See for me I thought hearn was an improvement on connell, he played some of his best stuff before he managed to even score in that first 10 games, more than just a striker, he must wonder what could have been if it wasn't for injuries

Don't get me wrong connell scored loads of cracking goals, just thought hearn had that extra quality that couldve seen him play alot higher even if goals were harder to come by

Hearn for me is the best striker we've had recently.  He had everything and defenders just couldn't get near him.

If injuries hadn't occurred I think he'd have made us more money than Bogle - anyone remember the Chelsea link? Ha!

Hearn was the most complete striker I've ever seem play for us. He was strong for his size, he had enough pace to take him away from a defender, was able to create his own chances and was the only player I've ever had genuine confidence in when he was baring down 1 on 1 with the keeper. He scored loads of goals against all kinds of opposition until sides worked out that he was our only danger, as like Connell he played in a terrible team. If he'd kept himself fit he'd have been that striker to score loads of goals to get us promoted in the Newport play off season.

As always in these threads, I disagree about Hearn having much in the way of pace. He had great ball control, good close skill, good movement, a powerful shot and was a decent finisher, but you never saw him running away from anybody except, perhaps, the very slowest of defenders.

Along with his injuries, this relative lack of pace is what led to him playing for us because otherwise he'd have been playing at League One level or thereabouts.

I always thought Liam had bags of pace - just shows how we all see things differently.

I think he was pretty good at timing his run so (with the right ball) it often appeared he had got a couple of yards ahead of the defender off a standing start.

He was by no means slow, but you never saw him run past defenders. Just a pity for us that he was always crocked after that first season, though I seem to recall that it was later revealed that he was angling for a move away before that?

That was the most dissapointing this for me with regards to Liam - he sid all the right things in terms of his love for the club and fans and wanting to repay the faith we'd showing during his injuries but was holidaying with the Mansfield squad and angling for a move there  at the same time.
