I'm looking at going down the coaching and/or refereeing in my spare time until I get all the qualification I need. Does anyone have any advice or knowledge to help me get going? I'm currently a TA (teaching assistant) and I coach 1hr a week and I used to run 2 football teams when I lived in Grimsby. The only sport related qualification I have at the moment is Sports and Leisure Level 2.
I found the Somerset fa website but the only course that looks close to being available is this https://eventspace.thefa.com/somersetfa/participant/arrangement.aspx?id=206230#regform

Yes mate Coach/Manager for junior side for last 5 years. Former Ref also.
Would suggest finding a chartered Standard club in area and get yourself on Level 1 FA Coaching. It is quite basic but you need it to move upwards. If your a person who is confident with people no issue. Takes 4 sessions then a test session at end.

Trev (TheImperialCoroner) is a pretty experienced ref and I think he's level 5 now? Could be wrong though. Would definitely be a good poster to ask for advice from if you're interested in reffing. He can't keep up with play though

Looking forward to a brighter future now Fenty has gone.

Luke, Refereed you a few times and think it's about time you tried a different cause😀. In GY it's £120 to take the Basic Referee Course but unsure of the cost down there. I also have a Level 2 Coaches badge which took 9 months to complete but you do have to attend a Level 1 first. Not a cheap way to progress but worth it in the end. You are better off doing the Refs course first and then earn the money from that to pay for your coaching badges. Up here men's football is £20 a game plus expenses, kids football is £15 plus expenses. The good money comes from Reffing night time 5 a side football. Good luck with it mate.

Luke.

Get yourself into the City centre.   Look round for a  bloke that looks like he was bullied at school. Middle aged, balding and overweight, big thick glasses, struggling to keep  up with the others shoppers and looking like he hasn't got a clue what's happening around him.

Chances are he's a referee 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Have a look ok on the Lincs Fa site for the next course or email Mick Brader at Lincs Fa. He's the refs coach for the county and a top bloke. I'd recommend it. If I could still play I would, but I've reffed well above the level I played, done Forest academy games, Town friendlies and loads more. I'm on UCL list so get decent money for that,  it it's not about the money, it's about being involved.

Batch, Crombie, Moore K, Wiggington, Cumming, Waters, Bonnyman, Ford, Emson, Drinkell, Whymark. Love you all, You are the reason I'm on here. You've had help from Todd, Handyside, Futcher P, Groves, Mendonca, Macca etc etc etc. Up The Mariners!!!!!!!!!

Luke lives in Somerset so I assume his best bet is to check their FA's site.

Does Michael Gove live down in Devon or wherever Luke is?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.

After realising I couldn't play Football, picking up refereeing and coaching (otherwise known as ruining it for others!   ) was the best thing I've ever done. The amount of great people I've met along the way and the amount it has helped towards my training to become a PE teacher has been absolute immense.

Refereeing can be a fantastic earner if that's how you utilise it, however you tend to find people either love it or hate it. Personally I love it and when you love it - the money only becomes a slight bonus on the side. If you hate it, you'll struggle to stick it. But it's certainly worth a try as it is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.

In terms of coaching, I'm just coming to the end of my L2 in Leeds at the moment, by God its been a long old slog but extremely informative - I'll have been doing it just over a year though by the time it comes to an end (partly my own fault). The work that goes into the new course is completely different to the old - so make sure you're reading up on the new format. Obviously more than happy to send the amount/type of work you'll be expected to complete if you drop me a PM.

I simply couldn't recommend recommend either enough - best thing I've ever done.

Sleep well Icey, Matty and Richard. Keep each other company up there xx
