Good. Think we should always have 2 decent keepers. Just hope Slade doesn't bring in John Lukic again.

More Steve Mildenhall than Anthony Williams please, Slade.

I think macca is a decent keeper at this level. dont know if we will ever find out what happened last season to make him spit his dummy out,, but one thing for sure  is that if it was just because he got dropped , other managers/ clubs will know about it and wouldnt give him a second glance. because they all want fighters for the shirt not tantrums.

He's an average L2 keeper, if we are genuine about a promotion challenge we need better.

I think Macca is a liability. Look how badly he responded to the competition of Henderson - threw his toys out of the pram and sulked. He has cost us too many points to be considered as a first choice keeper.

Last season was a learning curve for Macca. He had a few good games and a few shockers, and got beaten by just about every free kick within a 35 yard radius. He found himself out of the side to a lad way too good for this league and then I think he got compared to Henderson and probably compared himself, but that's not fair because Dean is way out of this league. He spat his dummy out a bit and he probably regrets that. But as far as keepers go, Macca is fairly young and below his peak, he could grow stronger for that experience and maybe another year at this level, and some healthy competition will see him improve. I certainly hope so.

So he should have competition, every player should and every player should accept that and relish it. Henderson was a breath of fresh air, it was a great bit of recruitment by Hurst but he bottled actually playing him for the majority of his stay.

It should make us all realise that Macca wasnt anything like the complete keeper we need to push on, he certainly isnt terrible but his game has   ( and always has had ) certain flaws, crosses, commanding his back four, commanding his box...Henderson was streets ahead in those areas and the back four looked more comfortable for it.

Pearson, Collins , Andrew all have had stand up arguments with Macca this season, largely over balls around the 6 yd box....dont recall Henderson having those arguments.

Another Henderson style loan may be our best bet, stealing a younger higher league keeper has been proven possible...why not again ?

Yes it was good recruitment  by Hurst and also good management in staying loyal to a keeper that in the past when his deal had been up chose to stay with Town and though it took longer than we wanted played a huge part in getting us back in the FL, something Bignot failed to grasp with a number of lads in the squad.

Bignot started playing Henderson for 1 reason and 1 reason only and that is that if he didn't he would have had to have searched for a new "2nd keeper" as Man U would have called him back, another situation where Marcus ended up with egg on his face as he did go back and we had no replacement. Also if he hadn't have played him the likelihood of us seeing anymore Man U kids would have probably been zero as big clubs loan out their kids to play.

You could see Henderson had talent and had been "brought up" in a system that developed his confidence, technique and reading of the game, a World of difference to Macca's journey. Henderson was also very quick to "kiss the badge" another behaviour we see in Premiership footballers. Clearly though Henderson in what was actually a short stint looked better than Macca but in that he also probably looked better than most league 2 keepers as well.

My view? Although James made himself look a male private especially on the radio after Stevenage away he at the moment is out keeper and we need to get behind him but we also need some credible competition which inevitably will come from a youngster or someone at the end of their career as no keeper/player in his prime would join us without being pretty sure of selection each week.
