3 months ago we were talking about having next seasons squad already in place. Pre-season was supposed to be the last few games of the season with just a couple of tweaks before hitting the ground running for next season.   And here we are again having a rebuilding job to do.  It's a funny old game !!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

I have a feeling we will have a better balanced team once Slade sorts it out.

We're paying the price of Bignot's erratic recruitment policy and giving up on the playoffs in December.

With some consolidation we could have been in the playoffs now but as it stands, Slade is having to make tough decisions.  Shame he wasn't available to replace PH at the time to be honest as I think he'd have got a workmanlike PH squad organised and pushing for promotion rather than loaned out, alienated and playing out of position.

If Slade had been available it's highly unlikely we'd have the talents of Osborne and S. Jones here right now, something for which we may well be thanking MB for one day.

Is that the only consolation you can take from 6 months of madness with that clown Bignot?

Yes we may not have had Jones and Osborne as RS possibly has a bigger recruiting network than Mansfield Town, The Prem U23's., The National League and Scottish 2nd tier. So it could be argued that we may have even signed better.

How is it actually ironic? Noteworthy maybe, but ironic?

I agree that Slade will sort it,  but, as has been stated by someone else on another thread, it might be the season after next before we really start to advance and Slade has the squad he wants. He really has been saddled with some average players on 2 year deals that he'll be hard pushed to ship out, and who eat up a chunk of his budget. Still, if next season is anything like this, we wont have to be owt special to challenge for the play offs.

I thank him now, as they are obviously good players and every club needs good players.

That does not excuse the utter mess up he made of everything else though. Even if we had stuck with Bignot, this close season would have seen further upheaval as it became as clear as mud what he was trying to achieve.

Err yeah. His tenure was chaotic and actually took us backwards. The sale of Bogle didn't help matters but the fees (and extra gate receipts) could have been utilised better than being spent on Gunning etc.

Jones and Osborne have the ability to take us closer to the top next season and could be big money players like Bogle, imo.
