Just whatching Bradford and Millwall and it reminded me of a news story this last week on policing costs of Spurs v Millwall in the FA Cup earlier this year, evidently there was a cost to the taxpayer of approx £200 grand, but what I want to know is when the various political party's hold there summer conferences isn't it the tax payer who pays for all the policing and security, and I saw one year there was a Royal Navy ship off the coast.

There's no cost to have a navy ship floating about when there's a conference.  If it wasn't floating about there it would be floating about somewhere else. The cost to the taxpayer is the same.

By that logic, if the police weren't at the game, they'd be somewhere else so no cost to the taxpayer.

Millwall fans embarrassing themselves again after beating Bradford.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

The difference wirh the police is they use overtime to cover matches. If they didn't then you are correct.

The clubs pay a fee depending on the category of the match, they don't actually pay for all the policing . For example at Town they pay for 0 officers at the lowest category (but there will be 2 or 3 there) and about 15ish I think at the highest (but there would be around 100 involved)
I can see where you are coming from and it would be interesting if a club refused to pay at all but I think the FA would then get involved and refuse them a safety license . I guess it's the same at gigs etc

The club pay for policing in the stadium.  The taxpayer pays for policing outside

As Mimma says, I gave no problem with this, just wish the media would not try to stir the crap about the taxpayer having to pay, as my original post don't see the Daily Mail complaining about the taxpayer picking up the cost of parts conferences.

I suspect like many other laws and rules regarding football they wouldn't get away with applying them to other sections of the community.
I doubt they'd dare ask for Pakistanis to pay for increased surveillance on their community due to high amounts of terrorist activities and child grooming that they have attached to it
