In a week when Diz has had so many threads (deservedly so), I don't mind a thread for someone who has served the club so well for about half the length of time. A massive part of our promotion winning squad, a really nice bloke off the pitch who had time for plenty of fans and a player who I enjoyed watching. Don't think he was half as bad as some made out this season and at Colchester, Cambridge and Plymouth he was a rock and was pretty much our MOM in those games.

Good luck Josh and thanks for your efforts..

Gowling was on Radio Humberside around 6pm.  He said: "While Bignot was manager, he was not around the first team and at times he was training with the youth team.  When Slade came in even though he didn't play, he was back training and in around the first team plans once again. Gowling told Slade how he appreciated that today when the decision was made going forward that he wouldn't be part of his future plans."

Gowling is graduating in a BSc Psychology partly funded by the PFA. Next month after 5 years part-time studying he's hoping to move in to Football Association Psychology levels and work in sports helping youngsters come through the system.

Gowling is still going to carry on playing football for as long as possible and he's in contact with his agent.

when he first signed for us i was a little worried, thought he was always likely to make a mistake based on seeing him previously down the years but soon grew accustomed to a cool centre half who was mostly dependable. Another one who helped us escape the non league.
Nice guy who always seemed to have time to stop and talk to the kids/ supporters, remain dignified during the MB period and if nothing else the way he remained pretty calm and focussed at Wembley when that fat fck Parkin tried to snap his leg...then i shall always respect and remember his days in a town shirt.

Always the first to put his body and head in where it hurts and wasn't afraid to put a challenge in. Unfortunately pace wasn't one of his best attributes and he got caught out a few times which contributed to him losing his place in the team.

I must admit I wasn't impressed when I first heard we had signed him but he has proved me wrong and was a big part of us getting back into the league so I will be forever grateful.

He is a very clever bloke who will have a big career after football and I doubt he will struggle to find a club in the conference for the next year at least IMO

I was an admirer of Gowling but he and Boyce in particular were awful at Colchester. A bad choice of his good days imo.

Aaargh!

For the last time, pace is one of his main attributes! Baffled to continually hear people stating he was in any way lacking in pace.

No, he wasn't as quick as Toto, but he wasn't far off and I reckon that's why he was picked ahead of Pearson more often than not.

His errors this year came from an uncharacteristic lack of concentration and he's been the quickest centre half at the club this year (though that's not saying all that much).

Good luck Josh. Off to Kiddy, perhaps?

On the pitch I thought he was one of the bravest players I have seen in a Town shirt often sticking his head in where his feet should have gone. As a senior pro he was a big factor in  the "unity" that helped get the 15/16 squad out of tin pot.

A clever bloke which was underlined by switching the ends before the kick off when he was skipper at Cambridge this (last) season saying "I knew we would be in a battle so I wanted our fans behind us in the 2nd half".

Off the pitch he looked like he had time for everyone and prior to the arrival of Bignot he was often in the GET doing stuff in the community etc.. He deserved better than what he got from MB and found the way he was isolated quite embarrassing to be honest.

So from me it's a huge vote of thanks and a good luck for the future!

Would expect him to get a club in the National League really. Too good to be playing National League North really IMO.

Opinions Cloudy, we could have been six down at half time if JG wasn't on the ball. To lump him in with "that" Boyce Colchester performance is wrong mate and anyway the aim of my post was to thank him for his time and service here rather than sully the thread with unnecessary pedantry..

Thanks Gowling for being an instrumental part of the Team of 16. As has already been said he often put his head in where it hurts and his video of the FISH chant at Wembley in 2015 brought people together and helped stimulate Operation Promotion.

All the best in the future Josh and I wish you all the best with your eventual career in psychology.

Good interview with him on MP. Seems quite chipper and was expecting the inevitable. One of our best players last season for my money. Good luck Josh, though i doubt he will need much luck as he seems to be very pro-active.

Yeah just watched it Ginny.  Obviously was expecting it but holds the fans in high regards...."wow" was what he describes us.  Also very happy to celebrate our promotion with his mum as she hasn't seen much good times during his career.

Good luck Josh.

Could not understand why he was sidelined and isolated by MB. Quality, hard working, intelligent player. Maybe too intelligent for Bignot's liking. All the best for the future and thanks for your efforts.

Message from JF

Grimsby Town director John Fenty has a special message for the departing Josh Gowling at Craig Disley.
The pair will leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of June.

"I would like to go on record to express my wholehearted gratitude to Craig Disley and Josh Gowling.

"Sadly good things have to come to an end, but we still have those memories of them being instrumental in several play-offs and especially that special day. when we sealed a place back in the Football League.

"Josh has been simply Mr. dependable since he has been with us and we will be sorry to lose such a massive figure, not forgetting his special performance in last season's play-off final.

"Captain Disley will always hold a special place in my heart, a man who never shirked, a man for the big occasion, often chipping in with vital goals in vital games. He has been a model professional and has been great to work with.

"The club will be arranging a special benefit (testimonial) game for Craig in due course, an opportunity for good many like-minded fans to have the opportunity express their respect for a true Town legend.

"I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing both Josh and Craig all the very best for the future."

Never forget him describing our fans as being on a different level to any other fans after the fish chant blew him away at Wembley.

He was so solid during our non league final seasons and a rock won almost every ball in the air.

Good luck Josh hope you find another club you deserve it.

Considering that today is a knock back for him to come out and give such an up beat interview just underlines what a bright lad he is, I fully expect him to be writing Steve Peters type books in 10 years time or so.

As well as moving on players can we move on the bloke who askes the questions on MP? He has this annoying habit of asking a question the player/manager has just answered.

Josh has been a great signing for us, right from that first game away at Alfreton wasn't it where he got a goal. Excellent player for us at the conference and will always be remembered for winning that penno away at braintree in the play-offs to bring us back from the brink that day and set up an amazing win and fantastic wembley triumph. Met him off the pitch and he's a nice fella too. Been unfortunate to not play more this season I think, will be a great signing if a club in the conference get him no doubt.

After originally starting this thread I deleted my post when you responded

intercourse you, Of course he deserves a thread on his own. He was one of our best players in our promotion year, made Pearson a better player in my opinion and I believe harshly treated by some fans at the start of this season, still think he's good enough to play in L2. A absolute credit to GTFC on and off the pitch

Are we any closer to getting promoted since Hurst has been here? No

Has he been given time to achieve promotion by the chairman and fans? Yes

Hurst out

I saw it on the Kiddy forum some time ago that Josh had a falling out with Moore when they were both there, so he obviously bore a grudge.

Frigging pathetic to banish him to train with the juniors so that's another reason for me to be thankful that Bignot has gone.

Good luck Josh, you deserve it for what you gave to GTFC.

My choice of Player of the Year last season. Totally dedicated player, he and Collins have made Pearson a far better player and really hope he will feature alongside Dizza in this testimonial game. Thanks for the good days Josh and good luck in the future.

Sorry to see you go Josh and all the best, I hope you get a good deal, you deserve it. You'll always be part of that legendary side that got us out of the abyss and for that I will be forever grateful. MY favourite Gowling moment was when he answered back to Lincoln fans taunting him on twitter saying they'll see him in non league next year then after the final he tweeted back no you won't, funny as fcuk, those gimps don't like it up em.

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.
