I think Lincoln will strengthen incredibly and as much as I don't like to say it, they've got a cracking pair in the Cowleys and hope it's a short matter of time before one of the higher end L1/ Chanpionship clubs sniff him out so they can replace him with another Moyses!

Steve Evans doesn't waste time in getting his targets for a promotion push next season -
Mansfield have signed goalkeeper Conrad Logan after his contract at Sky Bet League One side Rochdale expired.
The 31-year-old, who will officially become a Stags player on July 1, made 30 appearances for Dale this season and kept 10 clean sheets.
Logan was reportedly wanted by clubs in League One and the Ladbrokes Premiership but chose Mansfield on hearing boss Steve Evans' plans.
( might be worth a bet a 9/1 for the title )

I agree that he might not be what we need for a promotion/play off push, but in the limited amount of times I saw him, he was honest and hard working. You need players like that in any team. He is from Nottingham & still lives there and was talking to his "agent" a couple of weeks back at a golf day at Bulwell Forest. The "agent" told me, as he posted on another thread at the time, is long term friend of RS and he will doing prozone work for town next year. |

Cheltenham Town have signed Jamie Grimes on a one-year deal from 1 July after his contract had finished at Dover. The 26-year-old centre-back previously played for Swansea, Forest Green and Kidderminster before joining Dover in July 2015. He made 48 appearances in all competitions for the National League club this season, netting three times. Cheltenham Town have signed Kevin Dawson on a two year deal.The 26-year-old Midfielder has rejected the offer of a new contract at League Two rivals Yeovil Town. The Irishman had been with Yeovil since January 2013 and made 92 league starts and scored 6 goals for the Somerset outfit. He played for now Cheltenham boss Gary Johnson at Yeovil, helping them win promotion to the Championship in 2013.

Angol joined Peterborough United from Luton in July 2015 - again for an undisclosed fee. He went on to score 11 goals in 38 games for the club that season. Coventry City will sign Marc McNulty when his contract with Sheffield United expires this summer. The 24-year-old striker has agreed a two-year deal with the Sky Blues, who will be playing in League Two next season.

I got told Bradley got caught drink driving.
It has already been documented that Bradders lost his licence following an arrest for drink driving on the morning after a night out. I am "reliably" informed that despite the ban he "allegedly" was seen regularly driving his children to school & was subsequently arrested again. That said if this were true I would have expected that subject to have been reported in the media and a further court case held so maybe info not that reliable. The word is that Imps career is definitely over but I have heard nothing as to why this would involve the FA. |

Although Mansfield have signed loads of players already, I would not say they are the best out there, Slade will get in better players imo, BUT Mansfield will be up there because the manger will turn them into a team that is capable of promotion. Along side us  |

Who in particular should we have appointed then, given our fans hatred of Evans, who else has that kind of CV and was available & appointable? Genuine question as I cannot think of anyone who stands out but that does not mean they aren't out there & thinking back to when names of possible managers were listed on the fishy during our recruitment campaign I do not recall a stand out figure other than the aforementioned Evans & possibly Adkins. |

I was hoping we were in for Evans before we appointed MB but i didn't think he would drop to League 2. With the amount of money Mansfield are spending, you can see why he went there. Once MB got the boot, Slade is about as good a manager as we could hope for i think.

Cambridge United have signed David Amoo on a one-year contract after leaving Scottish Premiership outfit Partick Thistle at the end of this season after spending two season there, he scored 8 goals in 83 appearances.
The 26-year-old winger started out in the youth ranks at Millwall, but was picked up by Liverpool at the age of 16 and went on to make an appearance for the Premier League side in the Europa League in 2010. He went on to move to Preston in 2012 before switching to Tranmere the following year. After being released by Rovers, Amoo spent two seasons at Carlisle before moving north of the border in 2015.

Coventry have signed 25-year-old Liam O’Brien. The The 6’4″ goalkeeper has signed following the expiration of his contract at Portsmouth.
O’Brien came through the ranks at Fratton Park when he won an England Under 19 cap. He left Pompey in 2010 following their Premier League relegation, and had spells at Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham and Redbridge. At Dagenham, O’Brien made 39 appearances and last year returned to Portsmouth on a short-term deal when he made three appearances.

Chester have re-signed striker Ross Hannah on a two-year contract following his release by Barrow.
Hannah, 31, scored just five goals in 32 appearances for the Cumbrian club last season in the National League.
But the former Bradford City and Grimsby Town forward now rejoins the club where he was top scorer with 22 goals in 42 league games in 2015-16.

Last time I checked we were 18th favourites for the league which seems incredibly harsh, Lincoln were 3rd favourites.

I really can't see us winning the league unless three or four major signings take place.
I might be having a cheeky fiver on us to finish in the top six though.
Unfortunately we have lost the momentum of getting back into the league and are kind of starting again, but without so much 'positivity'. I'll be happy with a top half finish with a proper push in the 18/19 season.

Slade will need to prove that his first team have a spine to it. because of hanging contracts, we may still have to suffer another transition season before final clearouts unless he and Wilko can motivate those still here but out on the fringes of selection.
With Pearson and Disley gone, he will need to improve players in both positions to stop early ridicule about wrong decisions.
Only one goalkeeper in place and no real goal threat proven up front as yet - this is the central spine that will need to be contracted for pre-season for this wonderful term - gelling !
Pace and power have both been lacking in the last 2 seasons, regardless of the stumble over the line to promotion. we have seemed to lose to poor teams, but galvanize for one offs against the better teams - consistency is needed.
We had too many one good game in three or four players, even conceding that we hire at a certain financial level - Danny Andrew being a good exception last year but a risk that paid off.

For me I'd like to think we will be aiming for the play offs.
I'll be happy if at the end of the season we finish on more points than we did this season and their is some consistency and I'd like to think we play ore exciting football than we have of recent years.

Too much to expect anything other than what was achieved last season: Four managers--Hurst, Moore, Bignott and Slade, all with differing tactics and methods which would have totally confused the players. Top League goal scorer sold and not replaced. Players like Macca inconsistent throughout the season, being replaced by a gem such as Henderson who was trashed by a desperate Bignott, which made Macca who is a good keeper to childishly seek pastures new. All in all quite a eventual season, which but for the sake of three more wins would have put us into the playoffs, for the future and as long as Russ does not walk out on us again, I feel with the help of Wilco he will get his first promotion, bookies odds and favourites mean naff all till the results of the first ten games are known |

BURY have sold winger Jack Mackreth to Wrexham for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old only joined the Shakers in January after moving from Macclesfield Town for a fee in the region of £30,000.
Mackreth, who has also played for Tranmere Rovers and Grimsby Town, made three appearances over his six-month spell at Gigg Lane.

He looked really good in the 2nd half of that season he played. Really good work ethic and quite fast, his ball improved as well. Remember that cracking goal he scored against Gateshead at home. Not really sure what happened. Monkhouse seemed to replace him and was no better.

gives Vital Doncaster Rovers the lowdown on new signing Danny Andrew.
Andrew joined Doncaster on a three-year deal earlier this month after an impressive first season at Grimsby, where he won a number of awards at the end of the season.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
He is good going forward. He was probably a better wing back for us than a conventional left back. He is good at crosses and can take set pieces.
Weaknesses
His positioning and I think we conceded a lot of free kicks on his side.
Best position
Either left wing back or attack-minded full back.
Are you disappointed to see him leave?
Yes, but he was on a One-year deal and he was the player of the season, so he wasn`t expected to stay.

Luton Town have accepted an undisclosed offer from Championship club Barnsley for the transfer of midfielder Cameron McGeehan.
Luton manager Nathan Jones was sorry to lose the man he has described as the best attacking midfielder in League Two, but can only see positives for the Hatters and the player as he moves up two divisions.

Scunthorpe United have launched an audacious swoop for Lincoln City midfield star Alex Woodyard and are ready to pay the former Southend ace big money to entice him to Glanford Park.
Woodyard, 24, who enjoyed a stellar season with the Imps as they won the National League, sweeping the end-of-season Player of the Year awards as well as being named the National League's star man, has found himself in high demand this summer, with Championship clubs Aston Villa and Bolton leading a plethora of clubs chasing his signature.

Chesterfield have signed former Liverpool and Everton U23 side prospect Delial Brewster, who is a 19-year-old striker, was a free agent after being released by Everton.
He previously went out on loan to National League North side Stockport County in the 2015/16 season scoring 2 goals in 5 appearances. In 2016/17 Brewster went on loan to National League side Southport where he scored 1 goal in 3 appearances. He is related to Montgomery Brewster a USA minor-league pitcher, whose great-uncle left him $300 million in his will. To inherit it, Brewster had to spend $30 million in 30 days under a complicated set of rules that forbid him from donating too much to charity or retaining any new assets when the period was up.

York City striker Vadaine Oliver is poised to join Sky Bet League Two outfit Morecambe.
Oliver, 25, still has a year left to run on his contract at Bootham Crescent, but asked for a transfer after the Minstermen were relegated to National League North at the end of last season.
The Press sources have now confirmed that Oliver is expected to finalise a move to the Shrimps tomorrow, but City are expected to demand a fee for his transfer and, if the two clubs cannot agree on a price, it will be fixed by tribunal.

I perhaps wasn't clear enough. I was trying to say that Vose has loads of ability but I think you would probably need to build your style of play around him to see the best of it. My question is whether he is good enough to build your team around at this level! Perhaps a bit too hit and miss to make it worthwhile.
That said, he generally plays out on the left, so perhaps if you've got a more athletic midfield to cover in behind him, you would see more from him? Still don't think we'll be interested, though he was unplayable on a few occasions last season.

Took an Exeter fan to Bideford last night and we see this online whilst we was there. I've seen Watkins several times and I genuinely believe he will eventually play in the Premiership providing he's coached right and continues to improve. Being unbiased and honest I'd say if Bogle is with 1m then they've got it right on price for Watkins, class player (not to mention he won me £300 in the play off semi finals)

Bostwick is a heck of a signing for us but players don't just consider money when signing for a club. Yeah he will be on decent money but he turned down Blackburn to sign and I'm sure he would of been offered better terms there.

Maybe some things you gents are saying are true but the facts are we won the league we got to the Quarter Final of the FA Cup we had around 13 games screened live on BBC SKY and BT. We were the featured game on Match of the Day twice we have two of the best up and coming managers in the country we are financially stable with more investment coming into the club and we have over 6000 season ticket holders for this season.
Yes we are on a roll at the moment and our profile is high but these are the reasons we can attract players like Bostwick to the club.
We are just trying to make hay while the sun is shining.

I doubt that wining the NL alone would have funded the lifestyle you are currently living. Your cup run was excellent and aided by the luck of the draw you deserved the rewards from the prize money and TV as would anyone who progressed that far.. Yes as well as being platinum standard self promoters your manager/managers are very capable at wining football matches and the off the field financial backing must really help too. Coming on here though making out that your signing players because they are desperate to play for LCFC and Danny Cowley does you no favors as at lower league level players sign deals that offer the best financial return and fits with their domestic set ups. If they played for managers more would look to leave when a manager gets sacked |

I'm with cloudy, dare I say I have nothing against lincoln and have always hoped they do well (as long as it's not at our expense) also really like the Cowley brothers. I think they'll be managing a top club in the not so far future.. But please, can we cut down on the Lincoln talk. I respect you guys coming over to our board and chatting etc but every time I log on I feel like I've logged onto the Lincoln message board.. For once I agree with Cloudy ................Also you've missed the point 09 which is they would not be doing half as much as they have been in terms and signings and ticket sales if they hadn't had the cup run.It's easy to get momentum locally when you have been the darlings of the media for 6 months like they where.. Loads of people have said we have got season ticket sales wrong this season but nobody would have been that worried if the Gimps hadn't sold loads, in reality we will go into the first day in two weeks time having sold around what we usually sell. Remember yes last season we hit 3,000 but the season had started before we crossed that line. |

And the point about people being worried because of the Gimps sales, is the crux of the issue Herts. It is a competitive sport. You want to put your team in with the best chance and money is a big part of that.
Line two towns of a not too dissimilar catchment population and you'd expect sales to be within 10-20% of each other. When one outsells the other by 2 there's something wrong. For years it was us out-selling them. We as a club need to look at what they're doing better, not just sit back and say 'it was the BBC wot dunnit'.

How much would Town have had to spend to get even a fifth of the coverage given to our southern neighbours?
Agree we should be doing more to increase the baseline support, particularly among younger fans and not just expecting people to turn up when (I'm optimistic) we get a new ground.

Why would I know? I'm not disputing they got a lot of TV coverage. It's not as if it's bringing in more neutral fans from around the country. It raises the profile so it'll help with sponsorship and other 'commercial' income. But it's not as if the residents of Lincoln didn't know about the football club. For locals it's more about a good vibe around the place, which can be achieved without a high national profile - Wembley 98. The club are taking no initiatives when it comes to ticket sales. It should be ensuring BP is bursting at the seems to support its case for a new ground as you say. We should be spurred on by what's going on down the A46. What have we seen for the second pre-season running? Zilch! |

I see your point and it's galling to see what they are doing. My view is why do people think that as the Gimps have sold a lot of season tickets then we must have been doing something wrong? What do people expect the club to do sell them at half price, what good would that do? What difference would that make to our finances? Only they can answer the question.Though many posters wont like it we just need to accept that the club know more about selling season tickets than we do.The early bird scheme offered a discount and unlike many clubs we froze the prices but personally I would have liked to have see a number of kids tickets free if bought with an adult ticket in the Main Stand but I can't tell you if that would have made a difference to sales and income though.. Lincoln where always going to sell more season tickets than us and anyone who thought differently was a bit deluded. Why? because they have just come off the back of arguably their best season ever in terms of success on the pitch, generating revenue and public profile much of which has been generated by the media's love affair with The Cowley's That has created demand because everyone wants to be associated with a winning team. We however came up with a "functional" squad and after a month or two showed some promise of establishing ourselves as play off "possibles" rather than "probables" . The manager left and we replaced him with an appointment who on paper looked decent but almost from day one fu&%$ed it up and served up football that possibly put people off coming to "The BP" after some promising gates pre Christmas. Oh yeah add to that we got knocked out of both cups at the first attempt.All of which has possibly reduced demand. So the argument is how can you generate demand? Well with a purchase that can be in excess of £300 knocking money off does not generally entice people back who where put off last season or before. In my time as a GTFC fan demand has been at it's highest when we do well on the pitch, so lets hope we see demand off the scale this coming season. . |

Sometimes, the appointment of a manager (managers?) triggers a series of events that somehow energises a whole town. For Grimsby Town it was the appointment way back in 1971 of Lawrie Mac. Just about the lowest crowd of that season was the opening game against Scunny...over 7k. Such was the buzz around the Town that had season tickets been as big an issue then as now our sales performance may have been as significant. Last season was Lincoln's similar all coming together moment. We got two years of Lawrie. Lincoln will do well to get more than that from the brothers. To compare our pre season last year with Lincoln's this year based on the feelgood factor carried forward is in my view grossly unfair. |

You're in marketing Herts??.... You could've fooled me. Surely the point of marketing is to make a product a must have, or the go to thing .at very least for the product to be instantly recognisable. I accept that sales and marketing is easy in the good times, but a geographically isolated town like gy ,with its limited success over the last ten years is definitely a case where innovative, imaginative and aggressive marketing is required. The club has actually done some very good things via social media over the last few years, I think using Lloyd and the shop plus several of the other videos were exceptionally good.it would be so beneficial if they could somehow have used that creativity, imagination and irreverence in terms of attracting support and ticket sales.
I have wished for years that we could really look at how things are done abroad for example in terms of making the fans part of the club.im not an expert in marketing but I know that in my business you always need to be thinking of a new angle, or exploring new possibilities in order to keep the business as efficient as possible. The idea of some sort of shift ticket seems an obvious example which must be possible to implement;after all if BP is half full we regard it as a big crowd, which means that most times there are 3-4000 seats going spare

I would say the whole issue of demand is psychological and there is little correlation to need. Town have done nothing to create a feelgood factor.An exciting signing early on would have stimulated things,this close season is one of the flattest I have known.
I of course renewed my season ticket but without much enthusiasm or anticipation and did give some consideration to not bothering that is after having a season ticket for 20 years plus.

I thought about getting a season ticket but held back because it is a large sum from the pension. As it stands if we have a poor start and I stop going I will have saved a lot of money. If I was given a bit of bate I might have bitten and bought one. I think there are a lot of part time supporters like me.

To be fair Forza I do agree with you that in the last couple of seasons we have gone backwards in terms of building something people want to be part of a few seasons ago we where giving away free sticker books, kids for £1, cheap programs and doing stuff to drive people through the shop. Some of that was via offers and incentives some it with dancing comedians and LJL under some blokes Christmas tree. All of that helps build your brand without a doubt. So all of the above helps for sure but does it sell season tickets? Maybe maybe not. I buy mine for 3 reasons 1 I am a Town supporter and will be regardless of results it would take something really bad for me to stop going. 2 so I can get hot away tickets (usually) as getting to BP on none match days is impossible. 3 just in case we get a cup run and get a big club at BP. The discount is not that the first thing I think about & I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it, actually up until last season I lost money on mine as I could not get to night games due to work commitments and in tin pot there where too many. When the club sells tickets it's selling what you see on the pitch and though I get & agree with most points about the marketing stuff, apathy and complacency I am not convinced that hard marketing will sway that many people when the team is not winning most weeks and vying for honors, that is the key driver that puts bums on seats at BP. Usually a good cup run hosting some big teams helps, when was the last time that happened? In recent years there has been a hard core of around 3,500 - 4,000 fans and a large proportion of them are season ticket holders, then the rest maybe 1,000+ are floaters who turn up when we do well or play a big side/local derby these are the people that we need to engage and I feel that no matter how hard we push season tickets the only real way we can get people through the gate is to start winning games on a consistent basis and then certainly back it up with all the feel good factor stuff. I think what Realist posts above is how many people feel about going to BP and committing cash to a season ticket. The best marketing incentive to sell tickets is for the team to have a cracking start to the season and we beat Derby in the EFL Cup, do that and we will start to see demand from the floating 1,000.. |

Hoping for a good start to the season is not a sure fire way to success in business is it? It's a bit like Rammy's filling the shop with wellies in the hope that we get a really wet spell.
You and a few posters on here are diehard ST buyers so you don't need persuading. But that doesn't mean to say a hell of a lot of there people don't need a nudge. And it's not just STs I'm talking about. It's about packing the Park with all sorts of ticket holders. But STs is a good start.
And it's not just about sales this year. They could 'break-even' on ticket sales but fill the place. 8000 regulars is better than 5000 even if the income was the same. Got to think ahead to the long term (and how they're going to fill Peaks Parkway if it ever gets off the ground).

Sometimes, the appointment of a manager (managers?) triggers a series of events that somehow energises a whole town. For Grimsby Town it was the appointment way back in 1971 of Lawrie Mac. Just about the lowest crowd of that season was the opening game against Scunny...over 7k. Such was the buzz around the Town that had season tickets been as big an issue then as now our sales performance may have been as significant. Last season was Lincoln's similar all coming together moment. We got two years of Lawrie. Lincoln will do well to get more than that from the brothers. To compare our pre season last year with Lincoln's this year based on the feelgood factor carried forward is in my view grossly unfair.
I'm not saying we should have achieved Lincoln's ST sales. I'm saying it's no good sitting back and moaning that they got all the breaks. And I bet they didn't just expect the tickets to fly off the shelf by resting on their laurels. The Lawrie Mac example is a poor way to run things. You can't plan on the basis that once in (how long has it been now, 46 years!) 2 generations the appointment of a manager can have that effect. Talk about Micawberism! |

Your right KM but surely the best "nudge" is for the team to start winning games? many say we should be lowering the price but people don't start watching stuff that's not attractive just because it's cheaper. I like you think that we should be thinking about how we get people into PP and for once actually be brave enough to do it. I am not sure what we can learn from the Gimps based upon this season as they are riding a massive wave but there must be a number of other clubs we could learn from who maybe have not had recent success but do stuff to get people in. |

Last comment from me on this thread re ST sales. Below is the price for the Early Bird offer for the Upper which is still running BTW with just under 2 weeks before the first game. Prices where frozen from last season even though as everybody points out the wage bill is higher due to the amount of pro's on the books. Numbers on the left is the offer price, middle number is the full price and last number is the percentage saving. Adult (Over 21) £340 £420 19% Junior (1-14) £70 £105 33% Senior Citizen (65-74) £230 £273 16% Senior Citizen (75+) £140 £273 49% Young Adult (15- 1 £140 £273 49% Young Adult (19-21) £190 £378 49% Feels like the 65 -74 saving is a bit low in comparison to the others and there should be something for shift workers considering the local production based economy. Worth noting that the discounts are bigger in the other 3 seating areas for home fans. Looking at the percentage discounts it feels like they just need to should about what you could save rather than buying week in week out. The Early Bird feels like good value |

I don't think it was about good luck more about performances igniting an interest way beyond the norm. With Lawrie it was perhaps more about an extraordinary ability to understand the fanbase backed by performances on the pitch. In those days though season ticket sales weren't the big issue they are now. |
