More what wasn't said!

He confirmed the club had initiated talks over a new deal but he wants to concentrate on playing as many games as possible this season.
Today was his 45th (?) game after playing 18 games in last two seasons

He's due to become a dad soon after the end of the season so probably wants to earn himself the best deal possible - hopefully with us!

Maybe he's one of many players not enjoying playing under MB.
Hate to say it but it's what ive been told. It's boring to hear and think people / Players need to get a grip and get on with it

I think it's time that someone put some substance to this story.

Which players? Who told you? Of course there will be unhappy players - if I'd signed for GTFC when Hurst was manager and I thought Bignot wasn't giving me a chance, I wouldn't be happy.

There is bound to be unhappy players when they are not playing. I'd be more concerned if we had a whole squad of players who were happy sitting on the bench or in the reserves. I think the only player who hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip by Bignot is Gowling. Other than that they have all had enough chances to prove that they are capeable of playing in team that wants to be playing at the top end of the league.

Maybe he will see where Shrewsbury end up before making his mind up.

I would imagine he will be aware of others players deals and will want to be on a par (if he isnt already) seeing as though he is our most regular player and in with a shout for player of the year.  He may feel he holds all the cards at the moment.

Agree with Moosey that based upon the amount of games that he played last season Hurst would have brought him in on a relatively modest wage. Looking at his performances season to date we should invest in the lad and up his basic and give him 2 years if not a bit longer. Full back is a position that we have not been able to tie down for a while as we have had quite a few one season visitors in recent years. It would be a real concern if he wins POTY and leaves, that would be the 3rd POTY in succession that has done that after kick starting their careers.

I am sure PH will be watching but if Danny's Mrs is close to dropping then maybe they would not be his first choice as from what I understand she has some family local and that's important with a new addition. I am sure that there are a lot of "commutable" clubs that would be interested in signing Danny.

I reckon Marcus likes to be seen as a talent spotter and looking at Sam Jones & Jamey Osborne he could be but is he a "talent retainer"? As with everything else associated with him time will no doubt tell.

Although it's always difficult to see one of your talented players leave, I don't really mind as long as it's a step up for the player and we get some kind of fee.

I'd love to see Andrew sign a new deal and stay. I wouldn't like to see him go for nothing, but that's the risk if you hand out one-year deals.

Hope he stays.
My player of the season.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

The other one that springs to mind is McAllister - he was instrumental in our first day win against Morecambe.

He has been fit for quite a while but didn't even get a game in the reserves last midweek.

Seems strange as the manager publically built him up as being like a new signing for January yet he hasn't had a sniff

Are you part of the medical team at GTFC? You seem very sure about his fitness considering the amount of times he's broken down in training while trying to make a comeback. also noticing that there are still no substantial facts from Lukeo on what he's saying. I'd never trust somebody who once bragged about going to Lincoln games and sitting in the home end though.

He has been fit and training for most of this year except for a 2 1/2 week absence through injury.
Unfortunately due to patient confidentiality I am unable to publish the full medical report

BTW.  I once watched a County Under 14 Cup Final at Sincil Bank. Is that relevant?

Don't you think it strange that non of the large first team squad played for the reserves last week? Maybe they were all injured?

just watched the interview on Mp and he said talks are ongoing but hes concentrating on the games at the moment, what bugs me is the fact that The Fishy seems to be full of mind readers and clairvoyant's,as for Macallister hes injury prone and when he has played hes looked bang average, maybe the fishy should come with a prescription for anti depressants and a roll of andrex for all the excrement that some people talk

Not gullible at all, what will be will be,what makes me laugh is at the start of the season he was getting pelters on here, now he gets a thread by some mind reader who looks at 2+2 and makes 5 ,however hes on a 1 yr contract(like most of PH deals),which means there is a possibility he could go,i hope he doesn't because I think hes quality, maybe Hurst should have put him on a better contract(sounds familiar)

one year deals? Like Berrett, Summerfield, Vernon, Bolinwra, etc

When Hurst signed Andrew he publicly stated he was quality above this level but had had injury issues. My guess is that the club didnt want to take the risk and the player just wanted a one year deal in order to prove himself before moving back up

And yet they gave McAllister a 2 yr deal with his injury background so it makes you wonder if Andrew's agent wasn't as good as McAllister's although due the number of games he has played and the form he has shown, it looks like it has worked out better for him as he now has a stronger negotiating start point.

McAllister had played 46 games in the previous 2 seasons and Andrew 18. Think that was the difference

I can't believe the speculation that finds its way on here. Danny was asked about his future, said discussions are taking place. Said he had had his best season for a while. Of course he may leave but there was no hint he wants to. As always he will try to get the best deal he can and there is every chance he will stay depending on how negotiations progress.

hhhmmmm I think you missed one out cloudy didn't PH have a certain lethal striker on a one year deal, easy to name the so so players hes had on short contracts, but shy away from the good players that left because he was to stubborn or tight to give proper contracts too

Get your head out your bottom! Lots, even most, of the deals in the Conference were one year deals. You say stubbornness on behalf of the manager, many will say it is basic economics of the level we were at. The club, I.e. The board would have been reluctant to offer longer deals to previously journeymen type players.
Last summer there was a move towards longer term deals. In case you missed it, Danny Andrew was signed last summer along with those I mentioned.

And if he truly is a 'L1 regular' then perhaps we should expect Hurst to come in for him in the summer.

I think Andrew is a prime example of giving players time to bed in. He was getting a fair bit of criticism at the beginning of the season and has turned out to be our best player. That's why i think some of those that are not happy with the way the team are performing need to give it a bit more time before getting too downbeat.

I think he may well get a better offer next season and wouldn't be surprised if he moved on. You can't begrudge him if he does.

I like Danny Andrew, and it's fair to say he has become one of our best and most consistent players, but if he is being tempted elsewhere I find that a bit hard to take. We took a chance on him and have given him regular league football, does that not count for something in terms of his loyalty to us?, at least for one more season?

Hopefully, as has being mentioned before on the thread, people are simply reading too much in to this, and Danny is keen to see where the Mariners can push on to next year and wants to be a core part of this

I reckon because the football has become so bland and there's nothing to play people have become bored and decided to look for things that simply aren't there.

I suppose it is nice (in a small way) to be enjoying mid-table mediocrity in League Two. Better than our last two attempts at this level, that's for sure!

That said, we could really do with a few good performances and results before the end of the season (at BP especially) to finish it off on a positive note. Something to build on in the close season.

What has disappointed me is the fact that we have been 5 to 7 points off the playoffs for weeks now and have not had the nouse to put in that little bit extra required to get over the line.
Past season in non league admittedly, we always at this time of the year something interesting to look forward to, now we will be just going through the motions I'm afraid

You really think a little bit of nouse is what we needed? Let's be honest, we've not been good enough all season for the playoffs, which is acceptable if our first season back.

Quite true. The only reason we were close to the play-offs was due to Bogle's remarkable goalscoring exploits and (not unsurprisingly) we haven't been able to replace like with like following his late departure to Wigan.

After quite a few years of our strikers finishing as the top scorers in the division, I think we need to expect to be back to normality next year where the goals are spread out through the team. Would be nice if we managed to get a few strikers into double-figures next season because it's risky to have to rely so much on a single player as Hearn's injuries with us showed.

Funny how we differ in views on end of season "nothing to play for games". Firstly, I would much rather have these than relegation battle six pointers, secondly, often with no pressure for a result, sides can go out and to a certain extent enjoy themselves.

As MB says it also provides opportunity to see what certain squad players (& hopefully the odd youngster) can do at first team level. So I expect we will see Dan Jones and maybe the young striker Rose given some game time. Personally, over the years I quite enjoy seeing these matches as often they can be pretty open games. Plus if we lose not the end of the world as to some extent if you come twelth or sixteenth is pretty irrelevant.

I would like to see some evidence that MB is going to provide a more attacking & entertaining team, as he suggested on arrival, but most of all want to see evidence that the players brought in will have the qualities that will improve us going forward.

When you get within 5/7 points off a playoff position with say 10 or 12 to play, a different mood should descend on a squad of players in the shape of we will not get beaten at home at any cost and do our very best to take something away from home, its called togetherness/teamwork which was in abundance in last seasons squad.

Too many changes with new team members have not been able to generate that backs to the wall syndrome that we were proud of last season,(Braintree away) and that fight is what was missing in the past two months, lets see if we can add to the squad during pre season, it seems its more important to be strong at the finish rather than do a Scunthorpe and drop off when it matters most.

Oh yeah, Braintree away when Hurst had to change things because Monky was injured

Can't we just stop with the whole, "Hurst was rubbish and anything he achieved was by sheer chance" guff at some point?

One thing we have definitely had in recent years (Brodie aside!) is a great team spirit and cohesiveness and I'm not sure we have these things in the same way at this moment. This is quite possibly unavoidable because of the chopping and changing of personnel we've had during 2017. If my numbers are correct, we now have 8 players who weren't with us at the start of the season (9 if you include Comley) and 6 of the players who appeared in the first few games are no longer at the club! In addition to this, Gowling has been frozen out for whatever reason as well so we've got practically a new team on the pitch much of the time.

No reason we can't get the cohesiveness back that we've seen in the past, but it isn't likely to be until next season before we do when I'd assume there won't be such a large number of new faces coming into the squad. It can't be anything but unsettling for players when such a rapid turnover of personnel occurs midway through the season.

I'd like to think we'd have nicked another point here or there with a more settled team but obviously no way of knowing this one way or the other and I doubt we'd have been nearly good enough to reach the play-offs regardless.

This will never happen, as it would leave quite a few posters on here without any opportunity to post or anyone to blame when things don't go well.......................Most of these posters where jumping around like nutters though when Omar & Nathan scores at Wembley though.

hhhmmmm I think you missed one out cloudy didn't PH have a certain lethal striker on a one year deal, easy to name the so so players hes had on short contracts, but shy away from the good players that left because he was to stubborn or tight to give proper contracts too

Wasn't this " lethal striker" offered an 18 month contract in January 2016 and turned it down?

He might have done but it was still only a year extra as he already had 6 months on his contract still to run. Hurst only offered him this in the January to stop other teams coming in for him. Not many players would have signed in the January unless there was a large wage increase, which I very much doubt. If it had been an extra 2 years I think he would have snatched Hursts hand off. I think Hurst was being too cocksure and it backfired on him [and us] How we could have done with him this season.

How many non league players have 6 months left and get offered 2 year extensions by clubs who don't know if they will be FL next season or not?

In fact very few have 6 months left and get offered 18 months. The facts about the last season are being massively distorted as there is currently fcuk all else to talk about as we are currently poor on the pitch.

Think the pre Donny interview with MB adds a bit more fuel to the fire re Danny Andrew and whether he will be here next season.
