A great interview tonight with Deano after the game. Saying that he is very ambitious and that he has lots of offers from the higher divisions, but loves our fans support and hearing the fans being loud and vocal will hold him in good stead when he plays for Man Utd in front of large vocal fans. He's staying locally with his Nanna, whom he says he's bonding with, having been living away from her, for many years. When asked if Paul Hurst has been inquiring about him he replied "no comment" Also mentioned that as a young lad, he and his dad would scale the fences at Chespside for a knockabout. Apparantley it should be sorted early next week if he stays, though he reckons it's not just up to him. I hope he stays, as much as I like Macca I don't think he would have saved that free kick today. Please stay Deano.

Sounds a fantastic young lad and certainly a fantastic keeper.
Would have £10 on him playing in the Premier League 100%

I thought he conducted himself brilliantly, especially with what i felt was a little over the top pressure from Tondure at the end about transfers. He certainly did not come across as a 20year old lad but moreof a seasoned proffessional.

Was Deano born in Grimsby?
Tempted to stick £10 on him earning a senior England cap. He reminds me of when Joe Hart played on loan for Shrewsbury at 'The BP'... you could just tell he was going places!

Hmm! Cross purposes then. We had a midfielder that Shorty and Shouty brought in, that had local connections.

Wouldn't surprise me if he does make it up there or even gets into the England setup, down the line I think we'll be watching him on TV playing in some big games and we'll all remember when he was a young talented keeper who played for us.

Yeah I loved the first half of that interview and his confidence in himself.
But the second half of the interview makes me think he'll be off somewhere else (probably League One) next week. Seemed to five away that Hurst wants him at Shrewsbury. Would be annoying if he went there - Hurst had him here for 2/3 months and never played the kid, why would he go there to play under him again?

Now he's in Towns team, it makes sense for him to stay for the rest of the season and show how good he is. No guarantee of him getting in a team elsewhere - even if they tell him otherwise to get him there.

Or to not play under him again Tommy. Unless Hurst is going to make him first choice, I can't see why he'd go to Shrewsbury.
He did say that the key was playing first team games and that this is what Man Utd want too. It's ok being wanted by clubs in L1 and the Championship but there's probably little to be gained by warming someone's bench instead of playing for us. He was clear that the decision on staying or going is probably only 50% his anyway so we'll see what his club instruct. Part of me felt that the subtext of the interview was that he is almost certainly going, but, on further reflection I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed. He's obviously enjoying himself.

This boy has massive potential I loved when he said he "felt unbeatable" I am not surprised PH is in for him if that is the case why wouldn't he be?
I reckon he should stay for a late play off push rather than move for a long relegation battle.

Without any doubt whatsoever, dean Henderson is off right to the very top. Easily the best keeper town have had in the 20 years I've been going and we have had some good ones (Crichton, Davison, coyne) absolutely love his confidence and attitude. Would be no surprise if he's England number 1 in 5/6 years. Be fantastic to keep him till the end of the season.

Credit to him fending off Matt Dean who is usually very good at getting to the heart of the matter
You'd not think Dean was only a young lad but his confidence both on and off the field is admirable
Hope we do keep hold of him....there are lots of factors in our favour but then you never know with football
I'd be particularly disappointed if Hurst gets him to go to the Shrews. Hopefully his Grandma can pull a few strings and keep him local. With a settled home life it can only be good for the lad

From that interview it sounds like he wants to stay and help us try get in the play-offs. Hendersons playing games under Bignot, something he didn't with Hurst. Could well be in his best interests to stick with us till the end of the season. He's doing enough to virtually guarantee his place in the starting eleven.

It's great to hear his enthusiasm and ambition. I wonder how many of his colleagues at Man Utd and the other PL youth squads are happy enough to train, play u23 games and pick up four figures a week for it rather than get out on loan in the hope their first team manager picks up on it and wants to involve them in his plans?
I think he will do well in football anyway but a great start would be staying on at Town and playing in a play off campaign. Him signing would go a long way to helping Town achieve that aim.

I think the lad has a bright future ahead of him.
He said teams from higher leagues have shown an interest in him (unsurprisingly) but he is happy here at the moment. Sounds like its down to United whether they want him to continue his development in League 2 or move higher.,
Obviously i would like him to stay at least to the end of the season as he has already showed his ability. I think he might well do so.
From United's perspective he is now playing regular 1st team football in a decent League 2 side. He's only played a handful of games so he is still at the very start of his career. Why rush him? He's not going to get near the 1st team at Old Trafford in the near future. He is staying with family in the area which must be beneficial for him on and off the pitch as he adapts to playing league football. He had to bide his time here and warmed the bench for the first half of the season. Having finally got into the team and having a run in the side it would seem the wrong time to me to go somewhere else and start all over again. He might go to a League 1 side and end up not playing which will be of no use to his development at all. The sensible choice for United would be let him stay here and play. At the moment its his shirt (and his performances merit that...no knock on Macca). Get half a season of regular football in this League under his belt then decide in the summer what the next step for him is. That may well be away from BP.
C'mon United you know it makes sense.

He inspires confidence in the back 4 and the fans as he invariably comes to claim tricky balls in his area. Can also play football and you don't panic so much when the balls at his feet and he gets the play moving quickly with very accurate and forceful throws and he's made at least 2 wonderful saves. The one today and that one at Carlisle. Really hope we keep him but if not we'll have a revived McKeown who will have a point to prove to come back in and his inclusion wouldn't worry me in the slightest.

LISTEN - he'll go where Manure tell him to go. Up to a month ago, we had no chance of him staying because he hasn't played, now I think they'd be crazy to move him - but then again, I'm not paying his wages. Pssst Jose, you know it makes sense!

Think Codger is right. That was the overriding message I took out of his excellent interview.

Shrewsbury aren't letting many in. Do they need another first choice goalkeeper?
Having a decent 2nd choice keeper never seemed a priority for Paul when he was at GTFC so not sure what his motives are for signing Dean on loan if the interest is true. It will be a waste for the lad if he moves just to "put pressure" on a number one with good performances in training but never starting. BTW I thought he handled JT really well maybe they give the youngsters media training at Man U as well as developing them to be prem stars? Also well done to MB for investing Dean a 19 year old to do his first interview, that kind of thing helps when you want to make a player feel wanted which he definitely is. Have to say from what he said he is convinced he will be playing for Man U in the prem and I for one would not doubt that from the small amount we have seen from him, the boy loves a goal celebration too.

If its a case of playing in a higher league but with a struggling club, OR Staying here where he is happy living with his Gran, AND He might just have a promotion on his CV or maybe a Wembley appearance maybe both. Man Utd should choose us

Confident lad. Interviewed well. Handled questions diplomatically. Nice little comment about the seafront and fish and chips at the end.

My reading of it is that he's loving the experience especially the supporters but Man U might think he'll get better experience behind a sh1t defence

Class young keeper who oozes in confidence will no doubt imo play at the very top really hope we can push a deal out till the end of the season for him that would be massive to help try a push for the play offs if it happens that's great for the club if not we have James mckeown and I'm sure he will be ready to step back in immediately maybe this spell out of the side with the competition has helped him mentally and confidence wise because on his game mckeown is also very good keeper UTM

Shows a lot of maturity for his young age and his keeping coach at Man utd seems happy with his progress. At the end of the day it's up to them where he goes but love his ambition he is destined for much higher things that lad.

What benefit to the player would be gained by moving him away from a club where he is well liked, playing regularly and well, not always winning (which is a good experience), close to extended family and potentially in a play off push?
I am sure there maybe better options out there based upon level of football, bigger clubs etc.. but for the sake of 4 months what would it achieve. Also if he's with us and regularly playing it may improve his chances of starting for England.

Sorry forgot to add the fact he appears to enjoy playing here and is happy which will progress his development quicker than living in a Travel Lodge in Shrewsbury..

I hope so as that would be good all round for everybody.........He will still be with us, he stays in the national set up, we have an England keeper and James gets a game.. Is it not the U20 squad though?

Interestingly, when Sam Johnstone went out on loan to Villa United recalled Pereira from Belenenses as third choice rather than Henderson. Pereira is also 20 years old. This puts Henderson at 5th in line behind de Gea, 26, Romero,29, Johnstone,23, and Pereira. So realistically Dean is going to have to move on from OT to make a career so the higher the level he can prove himself on loan the better.

Genuinely nice lad! So positive and pleased to be playing with us-and I'm sure I can speak for all Town fans that it's a real privilege for us to be able to watch him play. I mused on here after the first time I watched him that I thought we might be seeing a future senior England goalkeeper. I haven't changed my view on that score. I know it limits James's opportunities, but I really hope than Man U will let him stay here to help us drive towards a play-off place. It won't have escaped anyone's notice that the recent run of good results has coincided with Dean's confident performances-it may of course just be a coincidence....

I do like Henderson, we have been lucky to get him. But can people stop using him to have a pop at Macca. If/when he goes back to Manure it won't be the end of the world. Macca hasn't suddenly turned sh1t. We just have an exceptional young goalie on loan.

No-one said Macca was sh!t - just that mistakes by a goalie are more likely to cost goals and points at this level. This season Macca has made too many.

The defence definitely looks more relaxed with Hendo behind them. I think Macca is a very decent goalie and will benefit from a spell on the sidelines to focus the mind. He hasn't had much serious competition for a few seasons and maybe got a bit complacent. As good as he is, he isn't in the same class as Henderson, who is clearly bound for the top. I've seen a few young keepers at BP over the years and you could tell from just the one or two viewings that they were going on to bigger things. Hart, Hislop and James spring to mind.

I hope this thread des not denigrate into Hendo V James as Dean has come up in a coaching system in one of the top 10 clubs in the world and you can see that not only in his performance but also his behaviours. James however has served a lot of his time in the "Tin Pot" leagues and has usually had a part time coach or at times non at all. I am not Gary Neville (who is a self appointed GK expert all of a sudden) a keeper or coach so don't feel qualified to talk about skills technique etc.. but what I do know is that both are 100% committed to doing well for GTFC.
If Dean stays we will be in a very good place for the rest of this term either way we will have a decent keeper behind our defence.

Indeed he is a real class act. You will remember when we had Dave Beasant on loan and he was the best keeper I ever saw for Town, and that includes Charlie Wright, Nigel Batch and Danny Coyne. The reason Henderson and Beasant stand out is their ability to command their area. Many many keepers are great shot stoppers but the very best make the penalty box their domain and command it. Mckeown is a decent keeper, but no where near the class of Henderson. Why we didn't play him straight away I have no idea.

Batchy used to command his area usually with foul language....... Good keeper Nigel (like the others above) and as mad as a box of frogs like they all are, I also remember he used to kick from hand with one foot and off the ground with the other, never seen that before or since.

Without doubt, he's the most talented keeper I've seen in a Town shirt - Lurch was the finished article with years of experience. He looks every bit as talented as Joe Hart did when he played for Shrewsbury at BP and I suspect that we will have given a League debut to a future international - let's hope so!

I rate macca but as soon many have said doesn't command the box very well, I do think however having these games in the dugout may well have made macca realise that if he commands the box like Deano does he will be a much better stopper. he will have been watching Deano and probably learned a lot so when Deano goes back to manure macca will be better stopper when he starts back again.

So what if he's going through all the chicks in town? At least he's content here and not sat in a bedsit on his Playstation feeling homesick or whatever. It's what young lads do (or try), it's what footballer's certainly make the most of with their status plus being in great shape and then weigh in he the only Premier League player this side of the Humber he in for the jackpot. Fill yer boots I say to the lad.

Mckeown is a decent keeper, but no where near the class of Henderson. Why we didn't play him straight away I have no idea.
Pick up a slight injury in first few weeks he was here

I'm told that one condition of him staying is that he plays first team football. Come summer he'll be off and we'll have an unhappy McKeown who hasn't played for 6 months. Seems MB has a decision to make.

There are several goalkeepers of a similar level to Macca - it will be a long time before we get one as good as Dean Henderson in a Town shirt.

Ultimately, McKeown needs to look at himself and realise that he has been unchallenged for a long, long time. He's been in no danger of losing his shirt and unfortunately I believe that allowed a degree of complacency to set it to his game. If we play Dean until the end of the season and McKeown is 'unhappy' as a result, how he deals with it will be a reflection upon him and his attitude. He can either use it to spur himself on and ensure he's never put in that position again, or he can be petulant and let his unhappiness impact his performances further. It could also be prudent for him to observe Dean's game - particularly his command of the area. Personally, I believe that this is an aspect that lets McKeown down and think that Dean has every right to come in to the fold - the confidence he shows undoubtedly spreads amongst the defence and I don't believe that McKeown has that same factor. Excellent shot-stopper, but in terms of defensive organisation and command of the area, question marks are there.

If Dean does leave then Macca has a chance to prove his worth ,
If he does not take that chance I expect a new keeper for next season hopefully in league one,
I like Macca but if he is not up to the job we move on and so will he,
With all our best wishes.

FFS behave ................. how many unfounded assertions and assumptions can you make about Macca who is someone who is as GTFC through and through as any player we have, in previous years he could have moved for more money apparently but chose t stay, We all saw what May 15th 2016 meant to him along with other stalwarts like Shaun, Dis etc.... I take it your assessment of the situation is based upon your goal keeping coaching qualification and intrinsic knowledge of professional football? I am convinced James is fully aware of the situation and will I am 110% sure fight for his place and not behave like some 11 year old. Dean though a lot younger and less experienced than James has one big advantage and that is coming up through the ranks at arguably one of the top 10 clubs in the world, a robust system that has produced many a prem star in addition to the class of 92. James however has come up through playing in "tin pot" where at times he has not even had a coach to work with. It is really unfair on both to make caparisons. All of a sudden we have a lot of flipping goal keeping experts on here, why can't we be happy for this weekend at least we will have 1 England keeper who has massive potential in the game in addition to a tried and tested GTFC promotion winning keeper?.

Those that whining need to shut up and get back on Pornhub.
I'm still disappointed that we haven't got any talented 21 year old local players with dark hair and big noses. Similar tales were told of a previous temporary resident of northeastern Lincs back in 95-96 season.

If I ever had any magic it disappeared years ago mate.
You could still share your Werther's originals with her though. (I nearly made that old quip about a Fisherman's Friend but thought was a bit too disrespectful, even for me).

If he has much say I reckon hed probably stay, hes certainly enjoyed working his way through the young female population of Cleethorpes (allegedly)...
Not a good idea to post rumours like that on here. You don't know who might be reading and we don't want to create a problem where there needn't be one. I think we can all see that Henderson is a PL goalkeeper in waiting, it would be fantastic to keep him for the rest of the season. If not, we still have a good replacement.

Well for a start judging by a posting on the gtfc Twitter account a few weeks ago he has a girlfriend (and a very attractive one to) and if she read this it might make the difference as to whether he stayed or not if she started giving him a load of grief and insisting he got away from here and closer to Manchester.

Nice and mature! FYI I am perfectly aware that the whole world doesn't read the fishy. But there have been players and players other halves that have been on over the years, posting or not posting so to think that no one outside the fishy will see the comments on here is naive to say the least. I will refrain from the name calling though. I like to think I have a bit more class than that. Not much I grant you, but clearly more than your good self. UTFM

I do like Henderson, we have been lucky to get him. But can people stop using him to have a pop at Macca. If/when he goes back to Manure it won't be the end of the world. Macca hasn't suddenly turned sh1t. We just have an exceptional young goalie on loan.
Was it this one Kris ???

Free kicks bother me Mrs D. All I said was that before it was taken. Radio Ull said he was out of position. The first negative thing I've EVER posted about him Kris was gobbing off so I've asked him to back up his comment. But he's strangely quiet. I guess we're all a bit peeved and shell shocked. I would settle for a point now though 😉

I've said many times that Macca stands too far to one side for free kicks. The question has to be asked why we concede so many goals from direct free kicks. It's not like we are playing in a league with exceptionally gifted players is it? It's not simply down to Macca i admit but it happens a hell of a lot and not just this season either.

The players in league 2 may not be as gifted Ginny but we have seen some great execution of free kicks against us and Bogle versus Stevenage as well as Davis versus Morcombe we have scored a couple. I would be more worried about our lack of control and discipline in the areas where we conceed the free kicks.

Macca has been beaten at least three times by apparent "worldies" tells you something's not right when everyone is carrying out the same execution of the free kick.
