Just came across this, FA Cup 3rd Round 1928/29, gates and receipts. Makes interesting reading if you like this sort of stuff. Some sizeable gates in there, over 50000 at Villa, over 60000 at Chelsea and 30000 at both Plymouth and Wigan Boro!

One or two extinct names in that lot, but most still in existence---Clapton Orient changed their name to Leyton Orient having nearly gone bust just after the war. Corinthians beat Man Utd. in 1904 in their worst ever defeat 11-3--wish I'd been there- would have made some interesting reading on the Fishy.Wigan kept going bust several times and then reforming

Interesting to note that Acrington Stanly took more in gate money than they do today 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Er Clapton Orient, Clapton being just down the road from Leyton, unlike the seaside resort Clacton

I was at the centenary rematch between the Corinthians (now the Corinthian Casuals) and Man U down at that pearl of suburbia Tolworth, Surrey. Utd won the game but the Corinthians are still leading about 13:7 on aggregate.

Very hot day and much cold refreshment was imbibed so I m not quite sure

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
