Anyone heard that Vegetarians and Vegans are losing their minds after learning the new £5 note contains an animal product? They're even going as far to promise to boycott it.

What a bunch of Jessie's!

I'll buy them off them for a good discount.

Actually theres shades of the Indian Mutiny. Like the rifle cartridges in the 1850s, there are claims that the new fivers contain beef and pork by-products, thus offending both Hindus and Muslims. Unlike the rifle cartridges, you don't have to bite the end off a fiver in order to use it*.

* yeah I know the Hindo thing isn't necessarily about beef as food

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Stupid decision given that we live in a multi-cultural society and some faiths  have a tradition of not consuming certain animals.

But where do we draw the line Rob?  I understand what you are saying, but what happens when the tree huggers say no paper must ever be made from trees? The five pound notes are not for consumption or clothing.  Do dedicated Greens only walk everywhere ? No, they adjust to the necessary evil and just try and reduce it where possible. All the religious folk etc are entitled to their own beliefs and actions, but when it starts to impact on others then I'm sorry but there has to be a bit of give and take.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

To be pedantic, it's the government that creates money. It's just the capitalist pigs with their noses in the trough who hoard it.

These Vegan fascists must think we are slaughtering animals to make the notes!! Absolute cranks. You watch though this petition they have going will be actually taken seriously and once again the minority will get what they demand.

To be fair, it is a bit bloody stupid to include an organic ingredient in plastic banknotes which could potentially offend about 3 million people - I think it was reported that the tallow could be coming from either beef or pork.

Sounds as though they've just used the same formulation as the Aussies/Canadians/Anyone else with plastic notes so it's probably just a case that it hasn't been a consideration in the past as most of these countries probably have sodomist all in the way of an ethnic population in comparison to us.

Not keen on the new notes myself in any case. A bit too 'Toytown' for me.

I don't think many people object to paper being made from trees, as long as it is from managed forests. If this is the only way to make the notes then so be it. But if they can be made just as easily from non-animal ingredients then they should be replaced as new notes are printed and old ones go out of circulation. I'm sure there would be an outcry if the notes were made from dog, horse or cat, animals most British people find repulsive to contemplate eating. It's the same thing for other cultures.

The ingredient is a byproduct from cows, cows that we are not going to stop killing because people want to eat meat and rightly so.
