If Taylor Swift and co. plus all the media are telling you that you must vote for Hilary then it's a foregone conclusion that people will vote for Trump.

They haven't voted in favour of Donald they have voted against a two faced patronising preacher who tells people what's good for them while doing what's good for her. So she is no different to any other member of that corrupt political establishment at the top of both US parties. People voted for a change of attitude. They are saying "Stop telling us what you think's best for us and start doing things we want you to do."

In a sense it is a failure of representative democracy like the UK referendum but in another way it is a triumph for that democracy that this can happen.

It might be rough but it will be different and in all honesty, pi11ock though he may be, I'd trust Trump a lot further than I could throw that lying woman.

The Clintons/DNC/Democrats deserve this for pushing aside their only true, electable candidate that was Bernie Sanders. As for Trump, obviously not the ideal face of the western-world. Although, at least Trump doesn't blame Russia for everything, nor wants to implement a no fly-zone in Syria that would cause a global war.

To be fair, Sanders wasn't a great candidate either - he's only been a member of the Democratic Party for a short time.

I do agree that somebody else without the same amount of baggage as Clinton would probably have won, but are there any major Democratic candidates around who aren't in her shadow?

One of my customers is American and she said she'd be more worried by Clinton in the Whitehouse. She didn't have anything positive to say about her at all. To Americans, this was a least worst candidate decision. She also commented that he couldn't possibly be any more incompetent than Bush, which was a fair point.

The same people moaning about Brexit are now calling Trump,

Brexit will be a success and I would not be surprised if Trump is as well.

I think people overestimate Trump's power. .

America has elected numerous oddballs for president over the years but there are so many checks and balances within their political infrastructure that it would take him several lifetimes to burrow his way through it all, even if he wanted to.

And this wasn't a vote for the Republicans, or a vote against the Democrats - this was just another example of how people around the world are so p1ssed off with career politicians they will elect any maverick who throws their hat into the ring.

Democracy put Adolf Hitler in power.  It's hardly a yardstick to use for right/wrong.

The most sensible posts have been those highlighting why so many people have voted for Trump, because they're fed up with the current system.   The fact people are so fed up of the system they've voted for Trump is absolutely terrifying.   The fact the Democrats couldn't put up a candidate capable of wiping the floor with Trump is staggering.

Trump is a complete buffoon and the fact we're now faced with him as Commander in Chief backed by Republican controlled Senate and House of Representatives leaves us looking into the abyss I'm afraid.

They've gone I'm afraid.  Obama and numerous Presidents before him were heavily hindered by the fact they had no control over the Houses, as long as the Republicans follow their leader it's pretty much a dictatorship.
