It seems like it was an extremely quick decision. Says he watched last weeks game and has read up on the squad? That's it? I'd have hoped he'd have been doing research about the club longer than that, to decide to jump ship. Unless he was desperate to get out of Blundell Park

Think what he said was fair enough but i detected just a little bit of a dig here and there. Also think his mentioning of the facilities at Shrewsbury was one of the reasons he went there and it just shows once again how much we need a new ground. They are also about to open new training facilities and that is something we can't compete with at this time. However, the real stuff is on the pitch and that's what counts. It will remain to be seen if he is ultimately successful there and more importantly, what sort of relationship he develops with the fans.

I forgot to mention the part where he said that he would like them to score lots of goals. Well yeah Paul, so would most fans including us, but keeping them out of the other end while you do that is the magic ingredient. You never cracked it here. He could never seem to get the attack/defence balance right and that's the thing the best managers are able to achieve more regularly then the rest.

In my experience, people either move for money or because they don't get along with the people around them. Facilities may be a factor, but I bet when PH told his wife about the job the first thing he mentioned wasn't the better facilities.

"Melanie, they've even got a conditioning coach, luv", said Paul.

"Oh Paul", she replied, "You must go! Promise me you will? Now what will they pay you?"

Think people are starting to get it now after some of his comments.

Don't mind saying it now he's gone but I'd heard last week that PH has "allegedly" been putting his CV about several places as he didn't want to work under Fenty and wanted out.

So people shouldn't be asking "Why Shrewsbury?".......
But more "Why is he leaving GTFC?"

That's the killer quote and clearly a dig.
I also don't know why Doig is getting such a hard time. Is it inconceivable that they had not yet been allowed to talk to Shrewsbury on Saturday or had not had confirmation of an official approach from town?

Have heard the same. I have a text on my phone from last week saying Hurst is going because he hasn't been given what was promised. Maybe why he mentioned honesty in his interview earlier? It may also explain why we already have a shortlist of 6 so soon.

Of course, it could all be malicious bollox; who knows?

Took him 5 years to work that one out, not saying he is wrong but seems a nice convenient get out to me.

There is no way on Gods earth that that statement was written by PH.  Every single time he used 'we' in the correct context and never once substituted it with 'us'.

I think the facilities business and the fitness coach lark are just smokescreens, so much eyewash to cover up the real motive in leaving.

Fear of failing to achieve expectations. That and a lack of togetherness with the supporters.

He felt the fans didn't appreciate what he achieved. The fans felt he didn't appreciate what they achieved.

A good manager would stay where there was only a tin hut for changing in and he had to cut the grass before they could train if he really wanted to be there.

All this about having great facilities is just bollox it hasn't done Shrewsbury much good as it, and the ungrateful little excrement decides to have pathetic digs at what must be Fenty, if it wasn't for Fenty sticking by him when the vast majority of fans wanted him out he'd be managing back at Boston by now.

Absolutly delighted we have now got rid of the cowardly little weasel and his boring assistant, now looking forward to their demise.
it's onwards and upwards for the Mariners with a good appointment as far as I'm concerned.

I was quite surprised he did not go at the end of last season after the abuse he got but credit to him he rolled his sleeves up and by his own admission hardly had a break. He virtually rebuilt the squad.

I find the animosity towards Hurst and Doig a little bit surprising, they have been the only management staff to take us on any sort of upward curve and have left a group of fit professionals. The club had a recent culture of losing and misery, that is a thing of the past.
I think they will be hard to replace and I'm interested to know the reasons as to why they actually left and what was done to keep them.

That doig interview was possibly one of the most dullest and boring interviews I have ever heard and I have heard them from hurst before also !!! We thank them both for their efforts and they did eventually get us back up so the main job was done It's been a strange one for me but a lot of fans was/wasn't with him for the long run people don't go because of his footballing methods etc we need to find the RIGHT replacement for him not on the cheap as we did last time and we all know what happened then !!!! Most fans would like to see a high profile manager in with bags of experience and they don't come cheap so fenty would have to push the boat out I Hope it will be exciting over the next few weeks whilst we reach an appointment and we must be right behind him and the team from the off no more negativity that's heard around the ground and pack the park good times ahead we will soon see ????????? ??????? Lets see what happens, they are half a dozen points off safety and in my mind when that is the case and you change manager you want someone who has a big character and breath instant fresh air and energy into a club whilst motivation the players to do better and also getting the fans behind you.............  It remains to be seen if that is in Paul's skill set as he very taken on such a challenge?

He has had time here he may not be afforded such luxury come May..

Did Fenty ask him if he loved the club and if he did, he should think about managing it for free?

Also we had a director leave the board because as he claimed promises weren't kept. I wonder who the promise crusher is?

What is Shrewsbury away following?

Supporting the Mighty Mariners for over 30 years, home town club is were the heart and soul is and it's great to be a part of it.

I don't blame Paul for cashing in on his reputation whilst it's on a high (promotion last year, play-off position this year) as the career of a Football Manager is perilous, but if Shrewsbury is the only interest there has been in him then maybe his reputation isn't really that high.

He is without doubt our most successful manager since Buckley. There may be bits and pieces of his tenure I didn't like - after all, no one's perfect - but I was a big fan of his and I'm sad to see him go.

I needed to say that up front, because what I say next might be interpreted as sour grapes...

I don't think he'll keep Shrewsbury up this season. He turned us around, and in five years' time he might have Shrewsbury in a better place than they are today. But he needs time to turn it around.

We got promoted with Hurst's squad. They were his signings, playing his system. Entirely.

There's nothing at Shrewsbury that's his. How did he do in his early days with us (alongside Scott)? Five months after being appointed, we lost 5-0 to Braintree.

Does he have the right mentality and attitude for a relegation battle? It's new territory for him.

I was one of the few that supported Buckley when he left for West Brom, And i would of supported Hurst if he hadn't been such an arrogant disrespectful male masturbator.

I find some of the comments on here in regards to Hurst Departure, very disrespectful.

Yes, As with most, I am disappointed that he isn't our manager anymore. However, I do not hold any anger towards him what so ever.  Hurst took is out of the depth of hell ( Conference ) and put together a very good team that could possibly fight for the play-offs in league 2.

I have nothing but praise for him and wish him all the best in his future as a manager.

Thanks for everything Hursty!

You're OK with him cowardly putting his snivelling (in more ways than one) assistant up for interview on Saturday after another inept home attacking performance then?

He had plenty of chances to achieve what he eventually achieved and then only succeeded courtesy of a Braintree defender's brain fade and Monkhouse's injury. Thanks for the promotion Paul but no thanks to the cupping of the ears and all the other sh!te you threw at the people who paid your wages.

So he didn't speak, we don't quite know the reason and we don't know if he'd had any talks then or if he had been asked not to talk by the club.
Luck is a two way thing, a year earlier he was on the end of a reffing howler that surely would have seen us promoted had Bristol rovers had their keeper sent off. He still managed to motivate another team to the playoffs which was a serious feat.

When I put a poll on here last season asking who do you want to be manager next season,

Getyourfactsright and Sonik came on here at 6-00am to say that was disgraceful,

Well Mr Fenty's  do you think what they have just done including the post match interview on Saturday is disgraceful ?

I am not holding my breath for a reply.

Honesty ????

They do not know the meaning of the word,

Shrewsbury have been in talks with Hurst for several days according to the BBC Website.

After it all happening over the last 4 days.... I think it's the best solution all around.

Paul did a good job for us and I will be sad to see him go...nearly 6 years is enough though.

Sounds like we have got our compensation.

Shrewsbury whether we like it or not, have invested in infrastructure - your work surroundings are important to breed success (I know working in a company that doesn't!) and they are a league above... So it's progression for him.

Wish him luck and now our chance to push on for the future.

Wouldn't have hurt Hurst to acknowledge and thank the fans.  I think he allowed himself to be influenced too much by a small number of people in the Main Stand.  What about the amazing away support?  Doubt he'll experience that at Shrewsbury: bet there won't be 1,200 of them at Southend on Saturday singing Paul Hurst's Blue and whatever colour it is army.

I was just about to type the same thing , 5 years here and supported all over the country by our excellent fans and he couldn't even say thanks for the memories.
A few whingers have got to him over the years and that was when we was winning most weeks , god knows how he'll flap under the pressure of a relegation battle, fortunately Shrewsbury haven't got many fans so it might not be too be for him

It happens in every walk of life. People go to other jobs because of a variety of reasons - football is no different. Hurst probably needed a new challenge and maybe the last five years sucked the life out of him. Personally it sucked the life out of me watching it.
The wholesale changes of the team at the start of the season was to me his way of giving himself a new challenge but it now looks like it wasn't enough. This season he seemed far more relaxed and on the money is his assessment of games but ultimately whether he felt under-resourced or not totally appreciated or just needed a new motivation we will probably never know.
I am disappointed he has gone but will always be thankful he got us out of that god awful league.
The one big thing for me was the way it all unravelled. Not one person comes out of the saga with any credit at all and was a most unedifying few days I can remember. It only serves to remind me that the fans are well down the pecking order when it comes to gaining a little respect. Two fingers were well and truly shown to us by all.

They get 5000 at home and they'll expect a bit better than he's managed in home games this season at Town. If Hurst thinks they're not going to give him stick if he fails to deliver, then he's got a shock coming. Mind you, I guess he can always send out Doig if the going gets tough or some local journalist asks him a remotely challenging question. Shrewsbury will need better because they are 6 points adrift and in need of a big turnaround. I can't see flakey/flukey1-0 away win tactics being enough to save them so some fresh ideas are needed. Better get on that 3G pitch and have a word with the strengthening and conditioning coach then.

I still can't believe he has gone there to be honest. I just don't see it at all with Rotherham, Sheff U et al inevitably coming vacant in the future when he has more than a dozen games in the Football League under his belt but Shrewsbury? What the fuk for?

Don't misunderstand I am not sorry to see him go I didn't particularly rate him (we scraped back into the league last season by the skin of our teeth, something he should have achieved much earlier if he was that good) but I feel strangely insulted that any manager (however small) should choose to leave Grimsby Town for bleedin' Shrewsbury FFS.

Perhaps that wave and applause to the fans at Cambridge was a goodbye rather than an acknowledgement of that constant chant about 'Paul Hurst's Black and White Army' which totally silenced the home lot

Wayne Burnett for me - none of the bigger names will want to know us and he did OK with a sh!te situation at Dagenham and actually has more league experience than Hurst. Don't know what he's been doing since 2015 tho'

I'd also welcome Groves back with open arms I think he's at Bristol City at the moment

Appointing managers on sentiment is a part of the reason why we had that spell in the conference. Don't forget that Burnett assembled a squad in which got relagated to the conference. We all have opinions but experience of managing a successful team is a must in my opinion. Time will tell...

If they managed successful teams why are they out of work and available to manage us?. Every manager currently available must have been sacked somewhere else. Successful managers are in work and only leave clubs to move up a notch (except Paul Hurst of course)

Two mentioned on here, Evans and Adkins are both out of work and have about 10 promotions between them. Depends on your definition of success. Not many managers are successful at every club they manage.

One's a fat barsteward and a jock to boot and the other wouldn't pi$$ on us if we were on fire plus we tend to get the ones who have been successful just as they are going into their loser stage. I was over the moon when Newell was appointed...

Exactly. Been several issues in recent years that have seen people leave the Club.

And the common denominator is.......?

He would have gone at least a couple of times one with Rob and the other this year pre Wembley if the majority of fans had got their way.
JF who I think you are referring too stood by him in those two periods and IMO has enabled him to have the opportunity to move sideways, had he have fired him then we would have still been in the conference with a new manager and he would also have stayed at that level  with another club.
He`s been a lucky manager IMO lets hope for his sake it carries on at Salop

Best not to ask the Sheff Utd fans what they think of Madkins. Personally I hope we can persuade him to come here, his press conferences alone are legendary, the guy could find something positive to say about the "end of days" I'm sure.

I have to say I'm still in shock and  very disappointed. I think a lot of Town Fans probably feel the same Not that Hurst has gone but the way he has departed here one minute gone the next.

Certainly not our best Manager but probably the most important in the last 6-8 years basically for achieving promotion from the hell that is non league. But looking back we have some hopefully fond memories
I think it's been a long and at times painful learning curve for us and this great club we cherish. Paul Hurst at times was very arrogant and stubborn Manager (like AB) but I am, as a loyal Town fan fully appreciate his  success last year for the Club and us the supporters. He owes us nothing but It would of been nice if he on Sat had expressed a little appreciation of our club/ Fans Knowing full well of his intentions to jump ship.
we have to be positive and press on let's hope the New Gaffer can bring stability and good football to our  beloved Mariners.

I seem to remember Newell using those words in an interview when he was appointed at Town. Stayed tuned for tie grabbing at the New Meadow.

Me? Don't know nuffin. Sniff.

I reckon the sniff must have been for the benefit of radio listeners as they couldn't see him scratch his nose when he denied all knowledge.

'Good honest people'   ....

Shrewsbury; 'Good honest people' communicated with others about a managerial vacancy before making an official approach.

Paul Hurst: 'Good honest person' allowed the communication to take place.

Chris 'sniffer' Doig: 'Good honest person' Knew nothing whatsoever!
