All for £5,000 Pocket change these days, though if Cellino at Leeds is caught up in it all I expect the figures involved to rise substantially.

Understand it's happening in other sports as well including the supposedly clean rugby union. It was suspected the Wasps manager got stung as well last night for raiding the honey jar.

If you are going to do this sort of thing, common sense would keep you away from big payments that can more easily be traced. Better to have ten £5K bungs than one £50K.

Some of the accusations seem a little underwhelming given all the build up the Telegraph gave it. Perhaps there are more details to come out, but both Hasselbaink and Cellino have acknowledged the stories and are standing by what they said/did on camera. Wright seems to have done the most serious stuff though and is surely finished in the game.

The fact that this is lower tier football is important though. I suspect the DT is trying to make the point that corruption is endemic right through the pyramid, part of the culture. I suspect they are right.

Yeah, don't get me wrong I think there are obvious signs of dodgy dealings. I'm basically disappointed they haven't nailed them on more serious stuff because right now it looks as though there's wiggle room for these guys to survive.

It sounds like the journo's were hoping to land some big fish along with Sam but it maybe isn't quite so cut and dried, hence the Tommy Wright story is leading for now. Hasselbanks story sounds rather lame, and I'd imagine Cellino has some pretty heavy duty legal mobsters protectors. A shame that such important news affecting the integrity of the game is boiled down to a drip-fed sensationalist newspaper headline.

Exactly what is the point to this whole thing? That human beings will always take an easy offer with seemingly little or no risk when it's laid out to them? It's like leaving a £20 note on the floor and filming people who pocket it then calling them a criminal for stealing money that isn't theirs. It's like the football version of To Catch A Predator.
Personally I'd be more worried what goes on with these corporate types who run the game like those in the FA and the corruption there.

No, it was another Scott McGarvey who just happened to be wearing a similar coat.

You are missing the point. Like I said earlier if you are going to fiddle you do it in small doses. Filming someone picking up £5K in this situation is a lot different to filming someone picking up a £20 note or even a bagful of cash in the street. It could prove to be one of a number of £5K deals by that same person. Of course it matters that the PL is rife with corruption and that the FA does FA about it. That doesn't mean other people should get away with it on a smaller scale because a deal like this at a club like Barnsley will affect clubs at their level. I'd be bothered if it was discovered that some manager/coach in our league was on the take from an agent even if it was only for a few hundred, wouldn't you? What is "To Catch A Predator" btw?

What is "To Catch A Predator" btw?
A quite notorious American reality show where a group of people linked with the Police try to catch peadophiles by having somebody pose as a minor on chat rooms to lure them to a house then they use a kid to provide a false sense of security to get them inside the house so they can "trap" them and eventually have them arrested after asking a bunch of awkward questions to expose them. It's basically like Jeremy Kyle except to go out baiting pedos instead of chavs. People have been critical that it works on temptation finding people that think they might just get away with it and convincing them to come get trapped for some sensationalist TV when they act like they are doing some good, it seems a lot like what these journalists are doing on the surface yeah it's good that they are investigating these things but they are providing situations to lure people in so they can get a story.

As someone who has worked as a tradesman all my adult life, i have never done cash jobs and always declared everything i earn. I know tradesmen who have been caught out and regretted it when a tax inspector is going through your whole financial dealings going back for years in some cases. That's the point really, it may only be small fry with the Barnsley guy getting done for £5000 and some people feeling sorry for him but if he had been honest, he wouldn't be in any bother. Yes, you can say the journo's have trapped these people but they were dishonest (allegedly anyway).

Yeah, I agree. He was in a privileged position. Most ex-players have to leave the game, those who stay are fortunate to continue working in the industry they love. OK assistant manager of Barnsley is not the highest paid position in football, but there's no excuses for taking bribes for what matters to thousands of people.

Barnsley assistant manager latest to be caught in press sting. Tommy Wright: Barnsley suspend assistant manager over alleged corruption - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37500734Amazing how naive people are about opening up to people they have never met.
Now sacked - Barnsley assistant head coach Tommy Wright has been SACKED by the Championship club after an investigation by the Daily Telegraph claimed he took a £5,000 payment from undercover reporters posing as football agents. The 50-year-old Scot denied any wrongdoing but was suspended immediately after the allegations came to light on Wednesday. But the South Yorkshire club has now terminated his contract with immediate effect. "The club was unaware of such matters nor was it involved in any wrongdoing. The club will continue to fully investigate the issues at hand and will co-operate with the regulatory authorities as necessary."

Thorough investigation required but who is there to do it It now seems that rife that you can't really trust anybody 100% Anything crooked used to be reported to the F.A. or to F.I.F,A. but thanks to Sepp Blatter and his cronies that doesn't seem an option. Somebody isn't doing their job and we shouldn.t be relying on the press to uncover these bribes.,but what can we do. When The Sun ran a story on match fixing in the 90's involving Hans Segers and Bruce Grobbelaar who said that he was trying to obtain evidence to catch the real crooks. A jury said there wasn't enough evidence to convict. Brucey Boy sued the Sun and was awarded 80K+. The Sun appealed to the House of Lords who still couldn't prove it but
changed the award to £1 with £1/2 million costs against the player. So there are ways to get the crooks even if you can't prove it 100%.

From what I have read, the agent told alladyce not to go as there was something not right, but alladyce decided to go as a favour to his 'friend' of 30 years - step forward Scott mcGarvey. I also noted that mcGarvey has still got terrible hair. He must go to the same 'stylist' as Stale Mince! 😉
