That goal for Villa vs Wimbledon (and the celebration that followed) is one of my favourite football moments.

I remember that day well

I was on my way down to Euston on a train that was full of Villa fans... my Mrs only went and told them I was a Town fan and they were all going on about how we'd put them out of the League Cup at their place

The ones in my carriage were old school types who looked as if they could handle themselves but to be fair they were full of praise for Town and said we deserved to go through and it was our final as they wanted to concentrate on the League etc.

It absolutely peed it down that afternoon so when I got back home to see MOTD and that celebration I thought, good on Villa - their lads had let me off with just a bit of banter so they deserved their win

Back to the initial post - sad news that someone should lose their life in this manner.

Here's a better memory of that rainy day when he scored an absolute belter

RIP Dalian

Taser used and he dies,

Have I missed a news item somewhere ? Quite a few folk already decided the police were wrong. (I haven't seen enough information to make an INFORMED opinion either way).

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied

Exactly. I saw this in the morning news and there still isn't any information so how people can make up their minds about it while knowing nothing is beyond me.

The only facts that are know at the minute is that he was tazered and then suffered a cardiac arrest whilst being taken to hospital. Nothing has been said about the events leading up to him being tazered (whether it was warranted or not). Not that I have heard of anyway.

I read somewhere sorry can not remember where,

A witness in a upstairs flat heard some shouting so looked our her window,

She said she saw 2 policemen shouting at a man and told him not to move,

The man staggered forward (not in a threating way ) so they told him again to stop,

He staggered forward again ( a bit drunk ? ) so one police officer shot him in the stomach with a taser,

Was that a true account of what happened ?

Your guess is as good as mine.

Very sad whatever happened.

I have just checked and it was on the BBC News web page,

If you would like to read her full account she goes into greater detail on what she saw,

Her name was given as Paula Quinn.

Very very sad.  It's worth remembering (and you'll have no problem with this if you're around my age - early to mid thirties) that before the Premier League became a billionaire's plaything stocked full of foreign imports and six-figure weekly wages, the early days of the competition were something of a golden age, at least for me and anyone who reached football-watching maturity during the early to mid nineties.

Stars like Dalian Atkinson were responsible for much of the early excitement of the Premier League, which hundreds of other players have followed and benefitted from.  His goal against Wimbledon will go down as one of the best, and on his day he was blistering.

I remember him bossing Man Utd in the League Cup final having done the same to us at BP in the FA Cup a few months earlier.

I'm sure he played in the FA Cup game c94 when Groves scored a belter and Livvo belted their centre half (ex Bournemouth player?).

Heard his nephew speaking on the radio earlier and he mentioned he was on dialysis of some sort for an illness. Made the apt point that an ambulance should perhaps be called every time a taser is deployed on somebody. After all, many illnesses aren't visible to the naked eye.

I've heard of far too many deaths after being tazored, (even 1 is too many in my view).  As someone else said, there could be many people with illnesses that a massive electric shock to the body could, and does, cause serious problems.  My opinion is that they should be withdrawn from service as there are seemingly often being used against minor offenders that could be dealt with in other ways.

We do not want to go anymore down the USA road,

Shoot first and ask questions later,

They are only supposed to be used if the officer is in danger.

Sounds like they were not in danger in this case,

I hope it all comes out when it is investigated by a different force.

Perhaps we could issue guns to all police officers and just shoot every sodomist instead

Oh FFS Pete I expected better of you, the facts are far from clear, whether the police officers felt they were in danger (which is the test which is applied) we don't know. The person tasered does not have to be holding a machine gun to make officers fear for their safety. Anyway it could well be that in this case that the officers considered him to be a danger to himself. A tragedy either way for the family and the officers.

I did say sounds like from the reports being broadcast Swin,

I hope the full facts come out and we can put this to bed,

Its a sad state of affairs when anybody is killed and I think we owe it to the family to stop talking about this now,

Do give us a wave from the home end tonight mate.
