I thought our likely new loan signing deserved a thread of his own!

Rumours seem to indicate it is Jackson, a bit strange that he only signed for Barnsley on 26th May this year and yet they are prepared to loan him out for a year.

Think he signed before they win the playoffs which would make me assume they thought he would be a fantastic league 1 player

"Pace to burn" according to the Barnsley manager.

4 goals in 36 last season isn't great though. 19 of those were as sub, which suggest he's pretty raw?

That was my thinking. Obviously has potential, so it suits Barnsley to loan him out and see how he develops. I think Hurst will look to form bonds with higher placed clubs around Yorkshire as someone who can be trusted to bring players on with loan deals.

We will still need one or two experienced strikers around, so it'll be interesting to see who else comes in.

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Gives any player a massive advantage over others and is a huge bonus if they have that in there arsenal. Reading about pace via players etc and they say it can make the difference between a good and a excellent player .Eg also can make the difference between a league 1 and champ player or even prem

I love to see a striker with pace ....

.... almost as much as I love to see one score goals.

Must be loads of young, free-scoring, pacy strikers about looking for a move to League 2. Somebody at Barnsley obviously thinks he at least has potential to play higher.

PH obviously learned his lesson from previous years where we didn't have enough pace to counter effectively. Welcome Kayden, good signing.

All we need now is a 27/28 year old striker with league 2 experience preferably coming off the back of an excellent season who knows where the back of the net is ... Where do you find these kinds of players though ....

Has this lad actually signed yet? Looks like a decent enough prospect if so, but we could certainly do with a bit of experience as well.

I think the fact that Hurst has signed plenty of quick attacking players probably goes a good way towards explaining why he didn't exactly pull out all the stops to keep Amond. A 4-3-3 formation of some type looks on the cards to me.

Cracking signing and shows intent to improve the side throughout with a good injection of pace in several areas.

Bit of pressure off Hurst now to fill another striker space immediately - worth the wait !

Excellent signing. Another player like Tombola that could be a bit raw still but even more Pace added to the side and finally a partner for Bogle.

Hmmm. Let's hope his pace helps to create a lot of space for his fellow attackers as his career scoring record isn't anything to write home about!

I think that perhaps Bolarinwa may be played as a striker rather than a wide player which would leave us looking for at least one more striker and probably two? Some experience of League football in the attack would seem to be desperately needed as we only really have non-leaguers at the moment, decent though they hopefully may be.

Would love to see us with 3 strikers up top. 2 wide strikers that track back when defending but then a three pronged attack when pushing forward.

Now that should put the fear of god into the slow, steady centre halves of this league

He's certainly got potential, agree we still need a some experienced old head up front, another gary bottles type would do.

Quoted from Grimsby Town Website
He originally come to prominence by winning a TV competition for budding footballers and earning himself a contract with Swindon Town. Then moving onto the Tamworth for a season, before joining Conference side Wrexham.

He was a regular member of our first team this year, with a total of 36 appearances in the league, although often coming off the bench in the first half of the season, before becoming a starter after Christmas.

His performances saw a number of Football League scouts take in our games and he also attracted the attention of Paul Fairclough, who selected him for the recent England C trip to the Ukraine, in which he scored during a 2-0 success. He was reported to be the quickest player in the National League last season and is said to be the quickest at Oakwell.

The 22-year-old made the switch to Oakwell in May 2016.

He will go straight into Paul Hurst's side to face Sheffield United tomorrow.
60 starts and 35 coming on as a sub.

Saw him in the club shop 30 mins ago when getting season ticket.

Season ticket as WELL as having a go on the Gold Bond scheme ???

Good way of keeping some of the money back in the club !!

Seriously, it's nice to see players putting some of their cash back into the development fund by having a go on the Gold Bond draw.

Do we know how many of the squad do have a go in the draw, apart from seeing their wins, of course?

Well his pace will certainly be an asset but I can't imagine he will be Hurst's final piece of the jigsaw. Another striker will be signed eventually, I have no idea who but my guess is he will be big, broad and good in the air.

One of the best games I ever saw was coincidentally Mariners 6 Barnsley 1

In it we had Phil Jevons who got 4, but we also had Lee Thorpe and Isaiah Rankin, running at their defence with pace and they didn't have a clue how to stop it.

The modern game has pace and I think the set up now with Omar, Kayden and Tombola and others running at them could cause havoc in opposing defences.

I hope the midfield players can get ball to them quickly so that we can maximise our 'speed' asset like Leicester have shown us.

You have hit the nail on the head there. One of our biggest problems in recent seasons has been how to break down sides that park the bus. Parking the bus is the easiest way to stop pace. Just sit back and don't give them room to run. So you need to work on passing (not hoofing) the ball very quickly plus a plan B. The signings so far look to have some ability on the ball so let's hope we don't see this season's version of the hoof to Monkhouse.

When Isiah Rankin was on loan he was very good, but when he signed seemed to drop off.

You're younger than I thought then cause Reddy was scarily quick.

Actually I forgot Reddy, that season was the first I can remember. My first game was the abandonment on New Year's Day at Rochdale the previous year. Reddy was helped by my first Town hero, the goal machine that is Gary Jones.

We need a poacher, target man and a pacy left sided defender. Have to say if I could pick 2 of the players who rejected deals I'd pick Toto and have not signed Boyce as I am happy to see a left footed centre half in Jones, and Nolan. What are Berrett and Summerfield like? I doubt either are as good as Nolan.

As you both say that has to be the way forward this season.

And the midfielders have to attempt searching passes, even if on the odd occasion it does involve losing possession. I would rather see possession lost that way, than 20 sideways and backward passes, which end with Macca booting a ball, that loses possession in the end anyway.

For all that I was a fan of Nolan, he weakened us defensively. I think Berrett is a slightly more defensive version of Nolan and Summerfield is a younger Dis if you want a comparison (based on seeing them for about 100 minutes each)

I was speaking to a big York fan yesterday and his views were that Berret is good, but Summerfield tends to go missing too often in games.

I suppose this is a pretty normal thing to see from midfielders at this level - if they were capable but didn't go missing at times, they would be playing in a higher division.

How many teams do you think will be parking the bus.  I dont think we will see any of that tbh.

I think that Diz could be the midfield gun firing long range passing ammo in some games this year with younger legs like Kayden and Tom doing the running around and spreading play in front of him.

If the upfront speed can be put into good use at set pieces, then Diz and Pearson could at last have space and time to score at set pieces.

If this is Diz's last season, then it would be good if he could hit a sneaky 10 goals target  - with a good percentage being headers from corners.

Kayden and Omar will also both benefit from the number of chances made already in pre season going forward into league games - we all moaned at lack of forward service last season, and pre season it's been lack of support for Omar to take advantage of loads of chances - have we now got the compromise of takers for chances?

Today against higher opposition will be a good benchmark for the squad regardless of result.

Hopefully not TOO hot today like at Boston, to wear the teams down and slow the game down.

Good interview by Kayden - looks to have ambition with the chance here for regular playing, dependent on form, obviously.
