I may be wrong, usually am but looking at the players PH has brought in so far, and the fact we didn't seem to try to hard to retain the services of Amond, we may be moving away from a 4-4-2 next season. More of a 4-3-3- by the look if it?
Amond would not have fitted in IMO, I have concerns about Bogle fitting in too if I'm honest, I assume he would be the focal point of the forward three. That position requires him to hold the ball up, he must play with his back to the goal and make himself available and bring others into play. I'm not sure he has that awareness as yet, he has all the physical attributes but doesn't really make the most of them. He's young and hopefully he will start to see 'the picture' soon.
It seems Mcallister is more of a holding midfielder, Dizza is nearing 35 and will have to adapt his game, I'm not sure he has the passing range to play in front of the back four but with Mcallister protecting, he'll have licence to break forward and support. The signings of Browne, Chambers (who I assume will play wide) and perhaps Vose are further evidence of a change of formation.
If it's 4-3-3, I'd be delighted. I'm a big fan and I find it's flexibility can cause opponents problems, particularly in midfield when playing against a standard four. It isn't easy to implement as I've found out at Sunday league level (not quiet the same I know!!), importantly, PH must get the players to buy into it, he failed last time he tried but maybe it was a case of square pegs and round holes - this time he's buying square pegs for square holes. Ideally, we need a couple of pacy full backs with three lungs as they will provide the width.
Just waiting now to see who we sign up top to compete with Bogle before deciding about a season ticket, I was deeply disappointed and upset when Amond went. If we are changing formation then I can maybe see some logic in it. I want to renew but I want to see ambition from the club, to be fair the last few days we've made some decent acquisitions.

I'm kind of in the new generation of moving away from 442... 433 or that 4231 are both good when used correctly

It's still probably too early to say as there's probably around ten new signings to come in yet.
The one big change I think will be confidence on two counts.
The first is that PH who has been almost exclusively a 4-4-2 manager, will now have confidence that he can get results, and big results, using different formations.
Secondly, the season finished extremely well for Bogle. He will be going into next season brimming with confidence and for a player confidence is everything, touch is better, finishing is better, passing is better, movement is better..

We should never have one formation, but we need to be adaptable as the situation demands.

IF we played 4-3-3 (holds breath awaiting abuse) the ideal focal point would be John-Lewis

I think 4-3-3 is the perfect formation. Although, you have to have the wingers and central striker that are capable of utilising this formation, otherwise it won't work and can easily end badly.

I'm sure we had this discussion last season and possibly the one before that. I can't see PH changing tatics myself.

4-3-3 is a perfectly reasonable formation.

Always thought formations matter less than the intelligence of the players to adapt.
