This may or may not have been the conversation between Craig Disley and Paul Hurst after last night's shocker..

CD Hey Gaffer, how about giving Craig Clay a game on Sunday?

PH Craig Clay? What you on about Dis, never heard of him.

CD Course you have Gaffer, he was the one playing with me in midfield when we were winning all those games before Xmas.

PH Oh yes. Sorry Dis no space for him and Monkey in the same team.

CD But Gaffer my legs ain't what they used to be and he did a lot of my running for me. It made my performances look better than they were.

PH Gotta play Monkey though.

CD I felt me and Craig were a really good partnership. He brought the best out of me.

PH Monkey says he's fit and up for it on Sunday, so I've gotta play him.

CD But Gaffer, we haven't won the midfield battle since you put Jon in there. Good footballer n'all, but he's never where he's supposed to be. Feel a bit lost and my legs just can't cover the ground he leaves in there for me to cover.

PH Monkey plays for me Craig.

CD Hey Gaffer, how about this. What if Jon and Craig play in the centre of midfield with me so we can win all the second balls we haven't been winning since January. Jon can play in front of me and Craig so he can link with Omar and Podge instead of wasting his time getting the ball off Josh and Toto and passing to the full backs.

PH Don't see how that fits in with the diagonal ball to Andy skipper.

CD Gaffer, play me, Jon and Craig in the centre and I've got another idea. Lets pull Nathan off the wing and play him just behind Omar and Podge. He's looked bored for months and it might just freshen him up a bit. He could play a bit of one touch football with Jon and maybe we could slide some decent passes through to Podge and Omar rather than hoofing it to their hips from 50 yards away.

PH No wingers? Can't do that, Monkey has to play.

CD Gaffer, Evan and Richard are fit lads, they love to get forward. I'll cover when they bomb on.

PH Monkhouse starts.

CD Gaffer, for once in your life, I'm trying to give you a plan B here.

PH Sorry Craig, Monkey's me best mate, he's playing on Sunday.

Very good!

Terrible thing is that's often how I imagine Hurst plans his selection, i.e all around a couple of individuals.

Problem is he doesn't give a monkey's about anyone's point of view, he doesn't give a monkey's for the fans and I doubt he gives a monkey's for the town.

But he does give a monkey about Monkey. I posted Bigdog's team on here last week - we just need to be different. Play 3-4-3, 4-3-1-2, the Christmas tree or whatever but just change it!

Four and a half hours (+stoppages) against part-time Braintree playing boring 4-4-2 and we haven't scored a single goal and in most of the three hours I've seen, haven't looked like doing so.

For me Pearson and Clay have to play on Sunday. Toto makes balls ups, even makes Gowling look jittery. And although I like him, Nolan is too lightweight.

Should have been both as soon as Nolan signed.. In a central midfield of three.
