How about we have a thread, maybe as a sticky (Biccys/Rob?) if its a good idea, just for all talk or mentions of ex players?

I can't be the only one bored by the weekly Peter Bore thread, the monthly Danny North update that descends into the same argument every time, a thread just to tell us that Steven Watt/Jamie Clarke/Danny Boshell/Michael Leary have signed for some ten-bob non-league team, or a thread to tell us that some player who played for us once (Wes Fletcher/those two clowns Newell brought in for his last game) has popped up on Gilette Soccer Saturday as scoring a goal for his new team.

Seen something similar on other boards and would improve this one I think.

tom corner has now joined racing portuense, along with 3 other british youngsters, in part of anew project the club have launched called nextstars. i wonder if they've been inspired by glen hoddle'sa cademy, whose team plays in the same division?

Seen that Rob Jones scored for Sheff Wednesday today. I assume that's the same one. I didn't even know he'd signed for them to be honest.

Connell was a sub for Swindon and came on for the last 15minutes with the game already won.

Akpro started for Rochdale which I think was his first start for them since he went there last year.

Andy Parkinson signs for Aberystwyth(???) - http://www.cambrian-news.co.uk/football/i/18339/

My lasting memory of him will be when he somehow beat about 5 players to score against Yeovil even though the majority of the time he seemed entirely clueless and just ran around a lot.

Danny Carlton gets a hat-trick and Nick Fenton one in Morecambe's 6-0 win over Crawley. I wonder what Mr Evans had to say after that.

We were decimated. Let's not make excused. It could have been 12.

"Fair play to Morecambe. I thought they played exceptionally well. They're going to be up there.

"If you've got a young centre-back who can't defend, you're going to leak goals. But it's not about naming individuals. We were all a part of that.

"It was not acceptable."

reading neil warnock's column in the Indie about signing Barton - mentioned he's always employed bad boys, saying 'when I was at Scarborough I had a lad called ASHLEY SESTANOVICH ,who was incredibly talented.I told him at the time son, you'll either end up in the Premiership or in prison...............'

just been watching the qpr/newcastle game in a pub in Sheffield with the son of a local fishmonger and apparently George Santos ,hero of the battle of Bramall lane as well as various Blundell Park skirmishes, speaks well of his all too brief sojourn with Town. Say one thing for Warnock, he knows how to spot a thug...Sestanovich,Woodhouse,...I wonder why they flirted with Town as well?

I see Andy Taylor scored again for the Borough on the Weekend thats 7 goals and 5 assists in 7 starts, an awesome start to a season at any level. I wonder what his actual level is ability wise?

Danny Carlton has notched again tonight already. The lad's on fire. 12 months ago he couldn't finish his dinner now he is 2nd top scorer in league two.

ALAN CONNELL scores against Evans' Crawley to put Swindon 1-0 up. I liked what Di Canio said about Evans in the build up to this match. Something like "ive never even heard of his name, I can't comment on someone I've never heard of. I've played in front of the Italian mafia so I'm definitely not concerned by someone I've never heard of. I laugh in the face of people like him like I laughed in front of 70,000 people at Old Trafford when I scored there"

Think he had not long been back from a bad achilles tendon injury when we got him; looks like he is not over it.

yeah to be fair I maybe should have worded that as "looked like all he could finish was his dinner" instead.

Good luck to the lad though. At least he worked hard enough for us and he's obviously worked hard back at Morecambe.

Indeed, he has a great attitude and is a very talented footballer I will always remember after Burton when only him and a few other players came out to clap the town fans some of whom was 'playing up' on the pitch.

Good luck to him can see him coming back when were in league 1

He's been first class since his arrival. Although saying that, all Phil Parkinson's signings have. Fully expect Craig Fagan to set the league by storm when he's fully fit.

When are you boys gonna pull your socks up and get back up here? Not quite the same without you.

My thoughts.

That was avery good goal and the sign of a player full of confidence.

That's the sort of goal i imagined Hearn would be scoring.

He apparently did. It was reported in the press though not sure if he confirmed it. Let's hope not though, he's flying high now and we'll be wondering where we'd be now under him instead of going after an (unnamed ) old soak.

Probably already been mentioned but Nick Colgan was in goal for Huddersfield for their 4-1 drubbing by Swindon.

Yeah and Connell started for Swindon. Didn't score though. Rubbish. Glad we got rid....

I watched Jamie Clarke, Danny Boshell and Ciaran Toner play for Guiseley on Saturday.

Boshell played better than I ever saw him do for Town. They seem to look for him all the time, everything goes through him and his passing was very good.

Ciaran Toner who was with him in centre mid was fairly anonymous and I can't remember him doing anything of note except breaking up the odd attack.

Jamie Clarke played right back and was ok. Got forward well and whipped in a couple of decent crosses and looked fast. He definitely wasn't fast for us was he?! He got sent off for a second yellow.

Jason Crowe back with Northampton in League 2

Good start so far.... dumped out of the cup by non-league Luton on his debut and then next game, played his part in the 7-2 home defeat by Shrewsbury

I was looking at the Bury Soccerbase stats earlier checking up on our new acquisition Luke McCarthy and took a look at Sweeney's too...

I never realised he had played the full 90 minutes for Millwall when they got to the FA Cup final a few years back. Wonder if he regrets not fulfilling his potential?

Bennett has started well for Peterbrough. Just made a quality tackle to prevent a goal. Lets hope the big spenders in the prem are watching.
Just made a premier league pass and he has been mentioned as a possible prem target.

Quote from the BBC Football Live Text:

"The first have wasn't a classic, the second half is quickly turning into one. Chesterfield striker Jack Lester is brought down in the box and Danny Whitaker shows Shefki Kuqi how to take a penalty by despatching it into the back of the net. Chesterfield 2-1 Oldham."

This thread really explains why we're in the position we are . 99% of the players we've had in the last 3 or 4 years are playing at levels down the pyramid that show just how shite they were . We did well not to get relegated last season

bit over the top   I think its all relative.Look at the facts for instance of those in pro youth teams on average from a squad of 15 only about 2 get taken on and sign professional deals. If they don't make the standard or the gaffers/management don't feel there good enough there released or let go early on.So in my opinion anyone who has played 5 to 10 times for the club has done well .To put it into further context as well you have to be half decent just to get into a professional youth side in the first place.Who I feel sorry for though are kids who give it their all and don't make the grade  "dreams shattered at such a young age " .Some however do come back stronger and overcome early setbacks and the game is littered with examples eg Hansen,Keegan were released from youth clubs and they came back from disappointments to forge top level careers

yeah he has got a point but Iam just emphasising the point that because players don't make the grade at Town they aren't "s####"   footballs one of the most difficult professions to make a career out of and players from all levels be it league 1 to the Northern Premier division deserve respect for attaining a certain standard even if it isn't that of the champ or prem

Gobern was released by Notts County at the end of last season and as far as I know hasn't signed for anyone else.

Sestanovich was jailed for 8 years in 2007 and seeing as you only seem to serve half your sentence in most cases there's a good chance that he's now out.

And finally Peter Bore opened his BSP 2011/12 account with the Gimps yesterday, scoring their first goal against Tamworth

Btw, how on earth did they manage four against them when we only just squeezed one past them in two games??

Could be right there....I did think that after I posted it

Actually Scunny had a few loanees in defence so maybe our ex player's been lined up to replace someone who's not looking to stay on at Glanford Park (or whatever it's going to be renamed)

What when i remember reading the wembly programme coming home on the coach and it said that gary jones had 130 games with 10 goals and then somewhere else it said 30 goals in 130 games, either way not a great record

Not exactly a great record is it? I remember gary jones scoring against wrexham at home in a 1-0 win, headed it in from about 6 yards, keeper and jones both went for it but Jones beat him to score

Not an amazing record no. However, in terms of overall play Lump was the best striker we've had for years.

Danny North was also a much better striker when playing with Jonah and a Hearn/Jonah partnership would have stormed this league.

In other news, Daryl Clare is the new manager of Louth Town

That was after 2 minutes Chris. He then gave away a penalty about 5 minutes later IIRC. We lost 2-0 to Oxford at home.

I was just filling in a questionnaire about the club you support (on FL supporters so maybe they still see Town as a league club!) when I saw this about Colgan

Funny how he's held in high regard elsewhere and the only low spot in his career was with us....and what a low that was

Nicky featherstone made his debut at Lincoln in a 0-0 draw and did intercourse all

Nick colgan made a penalty save against lincoln only to concede the rebound and made a great save 2nd to last game of the season, and didn't he withdraw from a game due to confidence issues, and didn't he pick up some stick against gainsborough trinity in a pre season friendly?

I really thought Josh Fuller showed promise - he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile in our Youth Cup win at QPR.
