Got to be better second half , can't believe we emptied the middle of the park for that goal , I thought we had learnt our lesson in that respect . One of those games that makes you think 'get rid of the lot ' whereas Saturday was one that made you think 'maybe keep a few ' i think with head and not heart closer to the former not the latter is probably the requirement if we want a much better season next time out . Too much inconsistency from too many players on too much of a regular basis imo.

When he is good he's very good. The problem for him is he's also very poor and the poor part of his game exceeds his good time. The 2 main things is that he is often bullied of the ball and will not chase lost causes like Rose. He starts to chase, then trots, then jogs a bit and finally gives up.

His age has nothing to do with it, if he's part of a team then that's it. Plenty of other have played at much higher levels at his age, he needs to buckle down and get stuck in.

I like Obikwu and let’s be honest if he was “ one of our own “ we’d be pleased we’ve got him .

We have better in Gardner. Obikwu just doesn't understand his role defensively. Looks like he thinks 'it's just not fair' when he has the ball taken from him.

We need to keep the score down. I would sub him for Andrews to give support in midfield. Acres of space in there when our attacks break down.

Starting with Obikwu was always a risk when possession is key.

I'm a fan of Clifton but he shouldn't be being used in CM outside of emergencies, certainly not starting, he just isn't good enough there. Obikwu, how does he keep getting picked - really worries mebthat Artell clearly rates him. Vernams crosses and set pieces have been abysmal

But it's not just DA. Craig Disley shouted his praises at Crewe and I listened to the Harrogate commentators who thought Obikwu was brilliant. Like most on here, I don't see him as any good and definitely not next season.

Yep, but it gives me an excuse to rant again; a rookie and a player that wanted to leave up front and no striker on the bench…2 feckin seasons of making do up front it’s just sh!te, nth rant about this over.

As all of our Management team were defenders maybe an important acquisition for next season would be a coach that was a striker because our creativity in the final third is almost non existent.

Not this shite again.... Ben Davies was not a defender. He played attacking midfield, only was it here he went to right back due to his legs going.

Seen a couple of people say that this squad isn’t as bad as people make out. Which is some of the biggest guff I’ve ever read on here. We’re 44 games in to the season, the table doesn’t lie. There’s literally only three players who I would miss if they were to leave, the rest of them would leave with at best a shrug. Some of them I would actively drive to another club if it helped. We’ve not managed consecutive wins for virtually an entire season. We’ve put in probably two or three performances at most that were good for a full 90 minutes but then inevitably go to complete shít again the next game.

The squad needs a massive overhaul. Hurst’s summer recruitment and his squad planning has absolutely shafted any momentum we had. It’s a tough gig running a football club but if we want to distance ourselves from being here again next season then the wallets are going to need to be opened.

I can't remember the last time (or any time?) where a player has gone from good to really poor in one season. Talking about Clifton here, who I thought was really useful last season, but has barely had a good performance this season. I realise he's been in and out of the team and has played all over the place, but he's really failed at the basics when he was perfectly competent last season, if not brilliant.

We're still in the box seat to survive, but I wouldn't put it past this bunch to chuck it away.

What a terrible season the sooner it’s over the better
Why are we so so poor
We should be ok for safety by the narrowest of margins
But it’s just not good enough v our potential
Come on Town!!

I want Harry to be successful but he seems incapable of passing to another Grimsby player. He was woeful tonight.

But he was in good company.

A positive note is that Crawley are in the playoffs. Last season they missed relegation by 3 points and ended up 3rd from bottom. Most on here, and beyond, gave them no chance in August and were certain relegation candidates.

Let's hope next season we do a Crawley.

Wouldn't fancy going to Crawley needing something, with them maybe needing a win to secure a play off spot.

Hopefully, they get that win at Sutton on Saturday.

Another long drawn out nail biting season at the wrong end of the table grinds on.

I think you are taking it out on someone who said it as he saw it.
Very little you can say when the into the box crosses were either too long or didn't get past the first man. The long throw in wasn't useful as we didn't get our heads on it, and our passing was woeful. I sometimes think our team is colourblind as they pass to the opposition. He was trying to be polite when the team that played Saturday didn't turn up on Tuesday. Just be glad we have a buffer, although I have no idea why we aren't bottom the way have played all season. Two more purgatory games to go.

Mani was released too soon.

Orsi wanted away but has shown he can score at this level.

Clifton has lost his shooting boots.

Eisa proved again tonight how lazy he is.

Sadly, all of the poor play came out again tonight.

Colchester set up to hit us hard and Fevrier was their best player on the breaks.

We were far too slow all over the pitch and set pieces were all wasted.

Poor performance and lack of guile or skill up front.

Just hope that we limp over the line by season end.

Artell will have a red hot outgoing phone trying to upgrade this team for next season.

Big clear out needed at season end with no sentiment.

Mani wasn’t good enough mate, Orsi would have stayed but Hurst told him he could go as he wasn’t going to be playing every week again.

We desperately need much more up front and have now for a couple of years. The daft thing is we let Orsi go last year and tonight he hit his 18th goal of the season. We can't for the life of us spot a decent player, (even when he is right under our noses) but somehow we manage to spot a lot of rubbish and sign them on long contracts.
Just listened to DA interview on RH and i just can't believe what he had to say... It's no wonder we are failing!!!

I still can't stand DA's interviews - he thinks we were comfortably the better team and should have won that game? They scored two, had one cleared off the line and hit the post, whereas our first shot on target came in the last moments of the game.

I understand that he has to look on the bright side to keep the players motivated, but it's not reassuring at all when he seems to see a different game to the rest of us.

While I don't neccesarily agree that we were comfortably the better team, you are equally making us sound worse than we were. We had more shots on target than them, Clifton missed a header he really should have scored, we should have scored just before half time when their goalie copulated up, and Wood has had a good effort saved. It's another game of not taking chances that come our way and find a way to lose a close game.

Since DA’s epiphany post Donny the shortcomings are down to squad IMHO. The squad was unbalanced from the outset this season and there was too much to do to rectify this in the window. The Crocombe and Orsi decisions have been much discussed and were very ill-judged without nailed on improvements in the bag. The Eisa and CV signings and lack of a box to box hi-energy midfielder indicate PH saw Harry very much as a CM with Conteh sitting deeper and then one of Gav or Green alongside. I think Conteh and Thompson together would have been beautiful…

We always looked a CB short and PH misjudged the abilities of Rodger to be both a Waterfall upgrade and a replacement for Andy Smith. I think Michee’s qualities were underrated, there were shortcomings sure but neither Mullarkey at RB/CB nor Smith as RWB for that matter is an upgrade.

In PH’s defence though I don’t think he could be have anticipated the loss of form of Glennon (or maybe opposing managers identified his weaknesses) and the complete failure of Alex Hunt to kick on.

Inflation has been high over the past couple of years, prices don't go down when inflation falls, so what else is the choice? If all your costs have gone up, not raising ticket prices means you start to lose more money.

If we stay up the price will go up, remember we’re paying to watch next season not this debacle.

The bit I don’t understand & what makes me really angry is how careless & irresponsible our players are with the ball. When they get close to the box they either just sling it in & hope for the best or take a pot shot, there is zero composure & even less quality.

I do understand that .

I just think it's too high for a club in an area not particularly flush for cash , after such a rough season especially .

Last season our prices (i was intrigued last summer because I'm sad ) for the cheapest adult season ticket was the 4th highest in the league - so we have effectively paid the 4th highest to be the 4th worst at best . If we raise the price by inflation it will probably be 2nd or 3rd highest judging on the pricing of other clubs so far .

For early bird tickets last season we were top 6 over all the categories (junior/oap etc) for season tickets .

I just think it's getting to the stage (not just us)that it's too expensive , maybe I'm on my own and people will be quite happy to run with inflation and pay £500-£600 for a ST in 4 or 5 years .

Makes me angry too. There is a marked lack of intelligence in both players and manager. All the evidence is that Obikwu and Wilson operate as individuals rather than a partnership and the ball is lost very quickly. This means our midfield has too much space to cover defensively. Go with one up top, extra midfielder and play a shorter game so fewer gaps appear. Thompson was asked to do too much after his exertions at Crewe.

If Artell thought we were the better team because Colchester stayed compact, as we should have done, then he is no tactician. We were never going to have the same energy as at Crewe so keeping the ball was crucial.

Wood is an attacking midfielder with a good eye for a shot and should replace Obikwu on Saturday.

One thing I have been surprised about is the tactical nous of the manager.

He spoke when he arrived of watching the games from the stands to get a better overall view of the game and being able to change things as a result.

Apart from the clear the air meeting after Doncaster,  there hasn't been much evidence of a tactical genius at work in our formations or changes within games. Perhaps he knows the players aren't up to it so is keeping his powder dry for next season.

I'm desperate for him, anybody really, to put together a decent side which is not a lot to ask given our support and financial stability as a club.

I think he's exceptionally limited tactically by the fact we're just so short of quality and pace throughout the side. What can you do to change things up? Most of our central midfielders aren't good enough and are much of a muchness. The wide players we have are Vernam who has been injured a lot, Eisa who's one of the laziest and least contributing players we've ever had barring his worldies and Gnahoua who although tidy and hard working has really not delivered an end product at all.  Our strikers are Rose who is excellent, Wilson who is inconsistent as his career stats show, Pyke who's shite up front and Obikwu who's a young lad who often looks uninterested. We've not really got any defenders capable of playing in a back four, certainly not in a back four behind our inept midfield. So what can you do? He's shored things up for sure on the mess we were in at the start of this year but you can't go more direct as we have no height or pace, we can't not have five at the back cause we'd start conceding loads again and our strikers are generally a bit shite. He showed against MK Dons that he can get it tactically spot on in the right circumstances and although some of his substitutions and starting line ups have baffled me, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until he has a squad that isn't fooking terrible.

Like I said he is keeping his powder dry till next season because he hasn't got a lot to work with, but I wouldn't have gone to Colchester last night with us only needing a point and be as wide open as we were in the early stages. Surely the right thing to do was keep it tight and get them nervy.

All easy in hindsight I admit but I still can't see what he likes about Obikwu and an extra midfielder might have been better.

The main problems are poor passing, slow play, ongoing injuries and several players who have lost form or had weaknesses sussed by opponents.

We are a smaller in height squad so we get bullied by the Akindes up front of this league and by dominant centre halves when attacking.

The signings in January have helped but there were too many square pegs to fill at once.

For Clifton and Holohan both not be fully firing has severely weakened midfield and puts far more pressure on defence and attack to take up the slack.

Artell cannot make a silk purse from a sow's ear, but January showed that he can see better players.

Budget obviously plays a big part in not just decimating a full squad in one go, so he just has to try to make the best of what he has.

However, the 1st sentence will be what he sees in matches, and why we cannot consistently
play like the Crewe game and he must be so frustrated at how different games pan out.

6000 plus stadium and armchair critics who all could do a better job??

Who would be a manager in lower divisions, certainly not me !!

If Sutton do win their last two, which is certainly possible given that MK will be resting players ahead of the playoffs, then will have won 6 of their final 8 games, which is pretty spectacular. That’s more than we have won in a about 30 I think.

I bloody hope we manage a point next week.

Funnily enough both Sutton and us have Crawley to play and depending on how other results go they probably will need to win both games but I’m pretty sure they must win v Sutton otherwise things are taken out of their hands. So they will be well up for it on as will Sutton and I expect the game to involve a few goals and hope most of them go in Sutton’s net. Just concerned that Crawley can be iffy at the back as they clearly demonstrated at BP in the first half where another injury time goal cost us what would have proven an invaluable point.

Demonstrated that by conceding 3 to Colchester the other day too.

Bet365 have us at 1000/1 to be relegated so if anyone is really worried then get a tenner on it. You'll.be able to get yourself a conference season ticket with your winnings and still have £9600 left over to donate towards the cost of the new bogs.

If you watch those goals they make some of our defending look solid. They were certainly in Notts County mode in that game.
